    mbx magazines

The MBX STI mags have been available for a year ???
  2. If not yet available to order, please let us know how you purchased the MBX mags ???
  3. Sold my SM a while ago but I did use a 7lb ISMI spring for lite steel loads (4.0 231 & 115gr RN) with good results. I bought 5 & 6 lb springs from Wolff to try really lite loads but never tested lower than the above (approx 105-110 PF) Are you certain the stovepipe prob is not because of the factory C-More mount ? I had non-stop problems w steel loads until I installed a Cheely 90 deg mount ...............
  4. Have used 1911s and 2011s in IPSC, USPSA & IDPA matches since 1975. Carried a S&W J frame everyday since 1999.
  5. Right on !!! Brand new SV mag from SV does NOT fit well in my 2013 STI major 9 comp. Slips in grip frame but barely locks in mag catch - doesn't feed well. Has no up and down movement like all my STI mags (140, 170, and 140 black nitride). Appears the mag catch opening needs to be enlarged to allow that slight up/down movement ................................
  6. Advantage of knitting is you can watch TV & have snacks while making some nice warm socks for winter when the floors are cold ........
  7. Ditto on the Apex. Have shot just about all factory ammo, FA reloads and my own Dillon loads. Zero light strikes with any ammo. Either the alum or polymer FSS - both are great.
  8. I also have both and agree 100% w the above. They pretty much feel the same, unless you're building an M&P open gun, the polymer works great. Really no need to spend the extra $40 ............
  9. Have both, prefer Dawson .........
  10. Agreed, note that STI Has listed the Apiero unavailable for most of the past year .................
  11. The STI mags have much better tolerance control, their dimensions are far more predictable - if one works in your gun, all others will work too. I've had many different open guns, and never met one in which a random STI mag did not work. I never had to tune them... period. With SVI there is huge lottery going on. The variations in dimensions are large, even for the same batch of magazines. For instance, one ouf ot a batch of three, all bought with the same new SVI gun, would not drop free. One of the three would consistently go salt shaker. I had been getting much more predictable results with STI's, but I like the looks and feel of the SVI better, so I use them. What he said
  12. Rob, are you referring to polishing the feed ramp ? Also what is a "cloth bullet tool" ? Thanks
  13. Info on most if not all your many questions is on the forum, spend a few hours reading and you'll be well prepared to get with your gunsmith ..............
  14. Got a link to those mags ??? A dozen different search terms on Brownells website get zero hits on Para 9mm mags (or any others except P14 .45) ................
  15. I agree with a 9lb spring for factory or minor PF reloads, currently have 9lb ISMI in my pistol. Shot another 200 rds through the .22TCM RIA yesterday - 100% function save for slide lock with 1 rd in mag. I am using 18 rd Para mags (thanks Ken), ordered as 9mm but don't know if they are intended for 9mm, 9/.38s, or .38s). Have Dawson base on one of them, holds 19. Also fired more rds using an STI 140 (with spacer) and it continues to function 100%, BUT I still need to file even more on the mag body to get it drop free. The above just an FYI in the continuing "which mags work with the RIA .22TMM/9mm" ................
  16. If the #12 is set up for the tcm what is the included #9 for? My combo pistol came with the .22TCM bbl installed along with the LIGHTer spring. The "extra" spring for the 9mm bbl feels like a 12lb. I've tested with the 12, a 10lb spring and now have a 9 installed. My tests (at least for my pistol) have shown mag feed lips and OAL is the key to good function. After opening the feed lips on new style 18rd PARA mags my gun is functioning 100%. Also have an STI 140mm mag that works 100% with factory feed lip tolerances (did have to file/grind/sand on the mag body to get a good fit in the RIA grip frame). Since I shoot an STI Maj9 open pistol, I regurlary load to 1.155-1.160. Started loading with that OAL a while back because factory RN ammo runs 1.155. Anything under 1.140 does NOT function well in my STI or now the RIA. Shorter OAL is fine for a Glock or an M&P but NOT in the RIA ............................................
  17. Only problem I can see is - once you run some rounds through your new 9mm 1911, you may find you like it MUCH more than your Glock(s) and you'll then be looking to buy more 1911s, then a 2011 hicap and ............
  18. Just bought a new SVI 9mm 140 from SV last week - it's VERY tight in my newer (late winter 2013) STI. Takes a serious yank to pull it out of the grip frame. The mag catch slot will also need modded ................
