Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. No, I've not detail stripped it before. Just took the slide and barrel apart for cleaning.
  2. I've put about 1000 rounds through the gun, it's not new. As for the grip safety, I checked that. The grip safety is setup so it doesn't function. I just checked and it doesn't prevent the trigger from being pulled. Thanks for the response and thought, I didn't mention that in the original post.
  3. I have had very few issues with my 2011, but this past weekend I was out practicing and in the middle of a magazine the trigger wouldn't pull. It felt like it was stuck, no play at all in it. I clicked the safety on then took it off safe and tried again. It would not shoot. I pulled the slide back slightly and checked that a round was in the chamber. I pushed the slide forwards, pulled the trigger and it fired. I shot a couple more rounds and then it happened again. This time checked everything I could think of and even after fiddling with the slide it would not fire. After unloading the gun, I ran the slide a few times and dry fired it for a bit with no issues. I could not recreate it. I put about 150 rounds through the gun after that and it never happened again. I'm wondering what could have caused this and what I can check to make sure this doesn't happen again.
  4. I went with a little of each. I don't really care for the feel of a flat trigger. Just throwing this out as an option.
  5. I got mine, still putting some rounds through it and will post more later...
  6. I should be getting my stroked Akai gun soon. I'll pull the slide back compared to my buddy's Edge and take a pic when I get it.
  7. I bought 3 Tripp mags yesterday for it. Hopefully they'll work reliably. If not, I may send it to a gunsmith. Or call DW.. you have a good warranty for a reason. Quick update, for some reason I hadn't considered sending to DW. I contacted them and they discussed briefly and decided to have me send it in. Got a pre-paid Fedex shipping label and I sent it yesterday. They said turnaround is about 10 days. Pretty impressed with their customer service so far. Thanks for the advice DWFAN.
  8. I bought 3 Tripp mags yesterday for it. Hopefully they'll work reliably. If not, I may send it to a gunsmith.
  9. I have a Dan Wesson Guardian. Have had a reoccurring issue with a 3-point jam. It seems like it's happening most often with the Wilson mags. I've tried Metalform, Metalform "Springfield" mags, and Checkmate. The Checkmate (that came with it) seem to feed most reliably, but don't lock the slide back. I love the gun when it runs, hate it when it jams in a match. Getting to the point where I don't really trust it.
  10. I'm really late to the thread, but just noticed it. I'm new to shooting in matches and have been shooting in USCA 2-gun matches for the last year. I did a couple USPSA matches prior to the USCA and have found USCA to be a nice way to get in to multi-gun shooting. I think eventually I might try 3-gun, but I really have no interest in shotguns so haven't made it a priority. I think a lot of people don't get in to shooting sports because of the high barriers to entry and because it's intimidating. The people I've shot with at matches have always been super helpful for the most part, but when it's all new to you, it's very stressful and nobody wants to mess up. Especially when a mess up in this sport could be deadly. 2-gun is a nice way to get in to multi-gun shooting since a lot of guys have semi-auto rifles and handguns anyways. Most don't have to buy special equipment to compete and one less gun makes it less complicated and expensive.
  11. I decided to go for it and give it a try. Thanks for all the input. Will post about it once I get the gun. Should have a friend's Edge to compare to.
  12. Thanks for the replies. I wish I could shoot a long stroked and regular stroked 9mm together before getting my gun built. I'd like to do whatever's possible to make the gun as easy to shoot since my wife may use it too and is awful about recoil.
  13. Thanks all for the responses. I talked to Akai custom, who's building my Limited gun and they offer good tuned mags and tune them for my gun. Sounds like they use grams internals and Dawson pads. Should be good to go, I ordered 5 along with my gun.
  14. Wanted to mention that I did come across these: http://www.1911store.com/super-tuned4-packwithgramsordawsonbasepad.aspx Wasn't sure if the .38 super would work with 9mm and wasn't sure if these were a good price. Thanks- Shawn
  15. I've searched and I see there are kits to tune STI mags and all kinds of aftermarket accessories for STI mags. I'm wondering if there's a place where you can buy a good and reliable tuned STI mag up front, or if it's necessary to tune the mag to your specific gun. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I've read quite a bit and ended up more confused. Any recommendations or input is greatly appreciated. Shawn
