  1. The USPSA members’ section hosted a comment area for the proposed IPSC rules currently being finalized. By my count, 28 members provided comments to this area. Pretty low turnout for an organization our size. Maybe 150-200 comments total. But in a more public forum, everyone seems to have ideas on what the rules should be, and are not afraid to share their views. Why the lack of guidance for the sanctioning organization? Yes, I understand that you have be be a member, and give your number and name. Is that really of any concern?
  2. Sorry, Vince, you had to use the provided light. I had an M3 in my bag, but could not use it. I enjoyed this stage, and every other stage at the match. The RO's were as professional as any group I've been involved with, including Bianchi when it was a true invitational (What hair is left is starting to gray). Wish the dark house was portable, so it could travel.
  3. You are right, Detlef. Back to the match, the stages were pretty good, the weather was pretty hot, and the shooters were just a great bunch to be around. I don't understand the big time span between shoot-off and awards/prize table, and there seemed to be a lot of down time somedays, but if you were shooting you were grinning.
  4. Ten in the mag is ten in the mag. A lot of the guys push this pretty hard at our local level. They really get offended if they grab the wrong mag, shoot 12 after the reload and get called on it. The whines of grabbing the wrong mag can be heard all over the range. Half the shooters top off with a second mag anyway (Open and Limited), so what’s the problem for the L-10 and Prod folks? It appears to just be laziness in most cases. Several folks starting shucking rounds from all their mags (not our squad, Flex), after becoming aware that RO’s were counting shots at this year’s NATS, just as they did last year. I was on a squad with gentlemen that got promoted to open. He took it very well, and stayed with us the rest of the match. Hope I can be that sportsmanlike some day.
  5. Buy, beg, of borrow a case gauge, and try the loaded rounds both bullet first and base first. It should show up the problem area real quick. I crimp a little more than you, and the OAL for 200 gr LSWC run 1.255. Good luck
  6. Thanks, folks. Here's the deal. In addition to L-10 .45, we have some other options in the gun safe to shoot production, including a glock and H&K in .45 acp. The Dillon is set up for .45, and I'm just to lazy to change things around. We've even been looking at a CZ 97 (?) just to round things out. I might even have to try an ICORE match with the S&W 25, so jacketed round nose will be seriously considered. I appreciate the thoughts.
  7. The press is set for 45 acp, and I hate to go through the changes for another cartridge. Anyone have any good thought for a minor load?
  8. Having a Mentor is real important to a new shooter. Our club is running around 35-40 shooters a month, and has over the years, had a reputation as being a little unfriendly for the new guy. Its taken some real work to change that perception. Try to hook them up with the right club member (people person) , not just the top shooter. One thing that has helped us bring in some new folks is a ½ day clinic. In addition to sticking brochures in all the local gun stores, we have posted it on our web site at www.millcreekpsl.org . We normally get 2 or 3 new folks out of one of these sessions. The students have been through the safety check, know the process, and are on a first name basis with the instructors. We also have all the contact information, so they can be emailed club news and match announcements.
  9. Orange snow fence stapled to 2x2 frames, up to 10 feet long. We tie them to steel fence posts driven to meet stage requirements. Great in the wind, and allow the RO to check the range before running the next shooter.
  10. Travis, I've used the Powers I fixture with good results. I know you're in the NKC area, so let me know if you want to borrow mine. Brownell's has a good articel on 2 1/2 pound 1911 triggers ( a little light for me) at : http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/GunTech/N...x?p=0&t=1&i=349 I'll be at the Claycomom range tonight, so let me know.
  11. Lynn, let me start by saying neither I nor most I know want to DQ a shooter. But neither do we want to see anyone hurt. My take, for a discharge/detonation per US 10.3.2 to take place, the cartridge must be in the chamber. An ejector detonation is not normally thought of as taking place in the chamber, but in the ejection port. It would be hard to have an ejector detonation pass through the barrel, although it may be possible. US 10.3.1 would not apply to a ED, as I understand it. If the cartridge hits the ground, and goes off, US 10.3.1 does not apply. But if the gun goes “BOOM”, someone better be able to show me evidence of an ejector ignition, to stop enforcement of US 10.3.2.1 during unloading or remedial action.
  12. Flexmoney, I'm going to have a different take on the use of 10.3.2.5, both IPSC and USPSA. Both only apply after the after the “Hammer Down “ command. Neither applies during the unloading routine. In the US, if your gun discharges or detonates after the “hammer down” command, you are free for the rest of the day. Similarly, if your gun discharges while unloading, (US 10.3.2.1), you will also have some additional time to help set steel and paste targets.
  13. Vince, I’m with you on this one. If a competitor has been cautioned once to desist from a certain behavior, and persists, send them home. Yes, you can handle unloaded mags in the safe area. No, you can not handle ammo or dummy rounds. Makes practicing reloads in the safe area hard on revolver shooters, but revolver shooting is hard anyway. Hold off on the additional rules, and insert some comments about using common sense.
  14. Pigeon Hill has worked for me. South side of St. Joe. Unmanned range run by MDC.
  15. Oh man, if I blow any more lights out there, I will be banned. Really, Claycomo is looking really good.
  16. Well, I gues a few more people know were Smithville MO is now. God bless Sgt Hodson and his sister.

  18. Try 5.0 grains of bullseye, and get someone to run it over a chrongraph. If recall correctly, that was Bill Wilson's load for years. If that's not dirty enough, go to 6.0-6.2 grains of Unique with 200 gr SWC's, and check it over a chrono in your gun. I've got 16 pounds of Unique to use up, and will look at the latest, greatest new formulations then. I need the practice anyway.
  19. The older Kimber frames were made by BUL. In correspondence with them, they advised that the frames at that time required the para mags have the mag notch relieved a couple millimeters up to work in their frames. I found that some did require the adjustment, and some did not. Para tubes made by STI required the least adjustment, if any. A new mag release is available for the old BUL/Kimber frames that will accept para mags, but with my current supply of Kimbers, I have not tried it.
  20. Switch mags and ammo with some of the other guys at the range, and see what works. I've got a feeling that you may want to load a different length.
  21. For those really cold days, I got a pair of ZR Windstopper Gloves at the trap range. They are great! Ral thin, with a textured grip suface. Mag changes are not a problem. I would reccomend them to anyone. JJH
  22. Remember the skit? It was our official theme song at Barton House, UMC. If you can’t remember draft number parties, you are probably out of luck.
  23. Definitely try the full metal jacket bullets. They load a lot faster for me. If they hit the rim just a little, they tend to bounce in. I hold the cylinder tight during a reload, which helps. The FMJ’s also help me separate revolver from “flat gun” ammo (were I use hollow points of LSWC’s). The “Shoot-a-Moon clip holders have worked well for me, since I can hang two full-moon clips in each one for classifiers (one cartridge hung of the front left, the other off the front right). Good Luck!
