CliffR Most of the ranges have concrete stations with shade awnings. Flush toilets in the clubhouse, and portable ones scattered around the range. Food service is up in the air at this time, but plenty of places within 15 minutes. I know food services are being chased down now. Bring the best half. JJH

DOH is OK in Production, and the rules are similar for Single Stack. I asked the same question back in January, and was told that DOH is fine.

Larry Bullock Memorial Shoot -- April 2, 2006 Many of the long time members remember Larry from the days when he headed Area III and at various matches where his energy and genrosity to this sport was seen time and again. On November 14, he was killed in a traffic accident in St Louis. In Memory of Larry and all his contributions to our sport, MillcreekPSL will be hosting a fundraiser match on April 2, with the net proceeds going to the THE ABBY AND GRACE BULLOCK SCHOLARSHIP FUND. MillcreekPSL will also match up to the first $250 in net proceeds raised by this match. Missouri used to be the lead capital of the world. The Herculaneum and Amex smelters produced 80% of all the lead used in industrial nations. Now, most comes, I believe, from South Africa. shipping charges have to be a killer. Recycling lead is a major source of income for trap clubs. Our local range usually lets it sit for 4-6 years, waits on high prices, then calls in the re-claimers. Last time, their share was $35,000.

The rules as written now are good for the next three years. Changes, if any, should be minor. In our area, the rail guns are not much of an issue. We stock about 50 1911 style pistols, from Kimber, Springfield, S&W, Para, SIG, and the other makers with quite a few rail guns. Some of the rail guns are getting ready for birthdays! The reason you see so many in our case, is they don’t sell that well. Standard 1911’s outsell rail guns 5:1 or more. Loaded or Target II’s are the outstanding best sellers, and appropriate for the Single Stack division. If the rules change enough at a later date, I’ll shoot an Operator at our club match, pig that it is.

I like to see youth get involved in any shooting sport, but remember that ours involves “running with scissors”. The real problem in our area is their adult companion. If you are not willing to RO and instruct them through the COF, others may be leery. Dad took one 8 year old through with a Mark II, did well, and had center hits on all the steel. They went down like dominos (a regular had earlier called for calibration on an edge hit. The rest of the club rode him unmercifully the rest of the day.) Different day, different youth, got a limited rocking in his hand and emptied the mag into one target, grinning ear to ear. The adult companion was not too concerned, but the rest of the squad was. Adults make the difference.

Shot one at Area III last year, and as noted above, the reset takes some getting used to. Mags intermittently hang-up in the mag well, from the top round getting shoved forward by the slide. Polishing the slide helped some, but not completely. A couple calls to Para have not resolve the problem.

This will be our third year of new shooter clinics at Millcreek. Normally, we start with some one-on-one instruction, followed by a set of basic drill. Attendees then shoot individual arrays of a stage a couple times, followed by the complete stage. The stage may appear the next Saturday at our regular monthly match. Tentative dates for 2006 are: April 2, May 7, June 4, July 2, August 6, Sept. 3 and Oct 1. Match setup begins at 7:30 am, clinic/match starts at 9:00 am, and ends around 12:00 or 1:00. We used to use .38 special lead round nose in Federal loadings to give the 125,000 base line for chronoing at Bianchi in the early Eighties. Everyone’s load had to make that number for the day. Seems like we used Chapman’s model 10 4-inch as a base gun.

Get an ATF PIN number. At first, ATF told us they were only for those that were denied, but in later conversations, said they would be available for those delayed.

If it can't go in the back pocket, I put them in the front pouch upside down. I can still see over my belly, and the upside down mag sticks out pretty well.

Our local club still uses a local classifier, and it runs about one level above the national USPSA classification. Seems to be a real issue for a few, particularly those that are not USPSA members. While we require NRA membership for insurance reasons, as well as others, we have not required USPSA membership at this time. Are there any other local clubs using their own system? .

Find a way to make the 8 round Mags work. It could be a major advantage on some stages.

First thing I did to mine was replace the factory wood and rubber grips with Pach's with a padded backstrap. With special loads its fun to shoot, but magnum loads are a pain. It's for one purpose only: carry in bear country.

We try and let everyone at Millcreek know when we have a guest or new shooter join us. It seems to help overcome anyone feeling lost. There are quite a few folks that join us from Leavenworth, and most months have rifle and shotgun stages in the afternoon. If you want to shot only [pistol, we also have a couple of indoor groups: one is the Bullet Hole on Friday nights, and the other is at The Armory, in Kearney MO on Tuesdays.
