Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. with benelli being a direct line (no wholesalers) who has the best price on Sport II's and/or Cordoba Are there any significant action/mechanical differences between the M1 Super 90-II and the new Sport II or are they just cosmetic. Looking at the website i dont see any. THANK YOU
  2. Just to follow up I ended up buying a 4-die set from Lee for $30 (Midway) and have been incredibly impressed. I also own Dillons, Reddings, and Forster dies but the value on these i think is outstanding seeing that it comes with a roll crimp die and a shell holder. The rounds that it has produced have been as good as i could have made with other higher competiton sets.
  3. As I get ready to load 250-300grain offerings at 12-1300fps I'm curious what sways handgunners to use premium lead/GC's bullets (Cast Performance for example)instead of a premium jacketed version from say Sierra or Hornady. It seems price is pretty comparable. Is accuracy better with the lead? How about fouling and/or barrel break-in. Never loaded anything but jacketed bullets before and wondering the differences.
  4. Thank you for the replies. I'll have to rely on common sense signs and ones listed as there are no published loads for this cartridge (or none that I have been successful in finding so far). I have talked to Sierra and gotten some very basic load data using their 300gr Sportsman bullet which is what i will start with and H110 as a powder. Any other info or experiences appreciated.
  5. very familiar with load work-up on rifles and watching for flattening primers, sticky bolts, shiny extractor marks etc etc. Very little data available for my new gun a 445 Supermag....As I work up loads on a revolver what are some of their signs of reaching max? How temperature stabile is H110? My first loads will be with H110 and Cast Performance 300gr GC's. Any sharing of experiences from you revolver pro's is very appreciated.
  6. Thank you Intel6, do you use the crimp in the seater die AND follow-up with the profile or do you seat the bullet and JUST use the profile? I have reloaded rifle for years just never have used any sort of crimp. Thank you
  7. Getting a 445 SM from Dan Wesson..... currently with Millet adjustables.....would I be wise to upgrade to the Bomars offered? Thank you
  8. Just purchased a DW Custom Shpt in 445 Supermag (lengthened 44mag) and have a used carbide Redding 3-Die on the way. The 3-day has a crimp ring in the seater but there is a specific PROFILE Crimp Die offered as well. Is this a good idea to purchase as well? Any other 445 Supermag tips very appreciated.
  9. VV's national distributor is Kaltron Pettibone in IL. I bet they know the answer
  10. You can get the HIviz from wallyworld for about $12...hard to beat
  11. I have owned and shot many ported and unported competition guns and would say its greatest attribute is lowering muzzle jump.... espicially on the semi autos making revovery shots quicker. The downside is a lot of folks just dont like being around them as they are a lot louder...more so in sports where your likely to stand beside rather than behind i.e. sporting, 5-stand, trap. I have not found significant reduction in actual felt recoil. I think Ballistic specialties is the most effective and easiest to keep clean.
  12. has anyone had a gun done in black chrome that ended up proving to be a durable plating? It seems that regualr (silver) chrome done in matte or bright is as tough a finish as there is but I dont here many success stories about black chrome..Why?
  13. the collets work great but much better after polishing the expander rod to a mirror shine....easily accomplished with 600 grit wet and then to the buffer chucked in a cordless.
  14. That is a good gun at a very good price. I used to shoot one and have worked on lots. Two things to watch out for. Polish the front hinge area on the receiver with 1000 grit and a light polish on a buffer.....this does a LOT to prevent the galling that I see on so many Citoris.....use good grease on the hinge area as well. Buy a couple of lower (only) firing pins from Brownells and replace them as soon as pitting is seen....this will prevent misfrires that will come inevitably during a competition. All Citoris erode the lower pin.....I have replaced more than i can count but they are cheap and easy to fit.
  15. Lets say your doing a slide-only chrome job on a gun with a tight fit (such as my STI with some wear marks) Is there refitting that needs to be done following the plating? Do they need the whole gun to do a slide only? Have you run into any negative aspects at all with respect to hard chroming? I ask as it seems like the perfect outer surface for durability. Thanks again for the responses.
