  1. Nice post, Steve. i have to echo it. While I'm not where many of you are, i truly do enjoy shooting and have decided, like Ron in his post and Steve here, to trust what I can do, call the shots, relax and have fun.
  2. Asking for clarification on a stage and checking resources, even after the shoot, are our rights as participants. Certainly the goal is to put on as good a match as possible, and we can help that by assisting in insuring that all goes well. Granted the SO has the final call, but if we see that things are applied inconsistently by the SO's, we have a duty to point it out. Something like that could cause a shooter to no longer participate and we need to keep folks in the sport. Every time I RO a USPSA match I learn more...in both what to do and not do. So i am looking at it from the perspective of an RO, and when the class comes up again, an SO in IDPA. (Edited by vluc at 6:34 am on Aug. 11, 2002)
  3. Both my son and daughter enjoy shooting...not the games, but just go down to the range and shoot. Daughter likes my wife's Ruger Mark II and my Walther P22...she'll like them both better when the red dots are on. My son prefers my SIG 226 (9mm) and is interested in the games, but as he is in college, he spends more time on that, and work when he is out of school. Never forced them, never preached...allowed them to make up their own minds when they were ready to join my wife and I.
  4. Since it was a stage prop, I would give a re-shoot...but that's just my opinion. Dowter, there should have been a re-shoot. One of our squad shot the first half, then came to a stop when it was discovered that the second gun had not been reloaded. He got a re-shoot. 5. If I can finagle it, I would like a little drive into Ohio to meet with and shoot with some of the folks I've met here. Tri- State the week before, Ohio the next week....
  6. And i'll throw in the same goes for IDPA - at least for me. Just shot today and got a re-shoot on a stage. While I made up over 4 seconds in time, the -1's negated the whole thing...so I shot it virtually the same 4 seconds slower with all -0 as i did with a handful of -1's. As for why i re-shot, course description was faulty and was given the chance to re-shoot. So vluc has learned a valuable lesson...one on that and second, that he better shoot IDPA and Production USPSA very similar! As I posted elsewhere, I can't go fast enough to negate the "C"'s and -1's.
  7. This place makes us think a lot! If angling is legal and okay, why not a quadruple mag holster? A double double, so all the mags are in the same area - all you do is reach down a touch further as opposed to reaching back more?
  8. Hmm...maybe try two angled and one double mag holder for those of us who are horizontally challenged? I honestly did not think you could run with those, thought it was just the standard straight up and down, but I think I'll give that a try!

    GLOCK sights

I called them as I wanted some...not sold in the US...so I got Heinies!
  10. Whew...flex, i don't think our EH folks would do that one, though the round count is about right! As for a lowly production shooter, glad i carry four mags as i'd be relaoding between arrays.
  11. Safariland inner and outer, Ky-tac sooperhooper holster, one fobus double mag and one uncle mike double mag on my Glock 34 in USPSA. Similar setup when I ran my Sig 226.
  12. I like the mix, and am designing stages to add to it. i was inspired by a stage i shot on Sunday that had you move from a box, engage 6 plates thru a barrell, dash about 25 feet opposite direction, engage 4 paper with no shoots thru a barrel, zip 25 feet opposite to another barrel where you engage 6 falling steel, off again about 40 feet to a barricade where tou engage 4 paper with no shoots.... I love that stuff, as I am a spry and quick 47 yo...but I did wind the poor RO who was with me...heck he had to be 20 feet behind me... But quick as I am it does not even the field with the larger folks with the red dots, so I don't worry about it, have fun, and give them a stage they can gripe about!
  13. USPSA production and IDPA, so my set-ups are similar. I always start from the rear and work forward, that way I don't miss them.
  14. Steve, I tend to agree with your #3 & 4. I shot and RO'd a local match yesterday, and was one of the few production shooters to run through. As I was RO'ing and the scorer, I began to notice a familiar trait throughout the 6 or 7 squads that came through the field course when I was there. Inevitably, the open, limited and l-10 guys & gals blazed through a 33 round field course. By comparison the production folks were slower. Here is the rub...there were only a couple of "C"s and "D's" by the production, but I was scoring a heck of a lot more Alpha-Charlie and Alpha-Deltas, as well as 2 Charlies for a good number of those folks. Not to say that there were not a lot of 2 Alpha's, but if that's what a red dot and a big stick does, well.... Now if I ever remember to keep track of my scores, i'd like to go back and recalculate them as if all shooters were scored the same, regardless of what was shot. Just for grins and giggles, would not prove a thing probably! I've shot some of the other pistols in those classes and they are a darn sight easier to control than my stock 9mm...so I don't buy the argument that my 9 is faster due to the recoil. It would be nice to see production able to be run with two types of equipment...speed holsters and mags in front for those that want it and stock for those that do not. One of the realizations to come out of really watching these guys go is that they are geared to points and speed, and that is really not what interests me when I shoot. Heck, a zen moment...I realized I really like the accuracy part of the shooting with those iron sights of mine, and feel comfortable again and proud that I am a production shooter!
  15. tpeck, i use titegroup now with MGB 124's, but I did my first set with Win231...used 5.0 grains with OAL of 1.167 and made 130 IIRC. Your mileage may vary. I did 10 at several levels before that...4.5, 4.8 and 5.0. Shot and tested and checked before running 50 at 5. I don't know your gun or its condition or anything...not saying to jump to that level or anything, just what I did.
  16. try a bit of vacuum hose tube under the head of the screw on the outside of the holster...puts enough tension on the screw to keep it kind of tight.
  17. I run a fobus double up on the hip and an Uncle Mike double behind it. The UM sits up higher than the Fobus and I like that low-high set up on the side.
  18. polo would be fine...do the front logo and one on the sleeve rather than the back...I have a polo golf shirt with the club logo on the front and the nike swoosh on the sleeve and it looks nice... Charcoal, yellow, white, lighter colors versus dark blue.
  19. Quote: from Flexmoney on 8:46 am on July 16, 2002 vluc, I'm not sure if I understand your question...but, that won't stop me from giving an answer. Your current classification percentage is a rolling average. It is figured on the best six out of your last eight classifiers. Your actual classification stays at the highest class that your rolling-average allowed you to obtain. So...if your highest average is...say...77.6 %, that will get you into A-class. Once in A-class...you will stay there. Even if your current percentage falls back to 74.5%. (Was I close to answering your question?) You called that shot exactly! My concern was that a bad classifier, when it gets factored in and a great one factored out due to taking those latest ones, would keep me on a see-saw.
  20. I go with the Uvex Genesis shooting glasses..vented and it helps! but I only use the amber, clear or slightly grey lenses...darker lenses take too much away from me when shooting outdoors.
  21. Do they go off of the High percentage you have attained or the current percentage when making changes to classification levles?

    Complacency

    Good enough isn't good enough.
  23. ...my Dillon muffs to drown out my singing, but...
  24. Can someone explain the rationale behind the equipment restrictions for production class....why the mags and holster must be worn where they are at, what their style has to be, etc.? Would there be that much of a competitive advantage if one wore the mags in front with different holders or used a Limcat/Safariland/Ghost? Just trying to understand it all a bit better, unless the rationale is to get you to move to a different class where you can use those items.
