  1. Now doesn't that beggar the question of the Limited A or B class shooter who decides to shoot production or L10 and comes in at a U or even a C-D level when they do the classifiers? Are they truly that class or are they A/B? If the classifier itself is to tell the tale, they may come out at the lower level, yet in a COF may run it in an outstanding fashion, smoking the folks in the prod or L10 group.
  2. smoney, musahi had a variety of things to say about weapons and the different "schools". He did comment in The Book of Five Rings, that one shoudl not feel that any one way has all the answers. Try them all and find what works for you. So I would take his comments to encourage you to try to shoot a variety of different pistols. I only play with two...The Glock and SIG-Sauer. Each in a different game. Perhaps time to return to what you used to do and close the circle....
  3. Actually Musashi, after achieving what he considered proficiency, abandoned the sword for the bokken and used that for the remainder of his life.
  4. Once the round leaves the gun, you can't get it back. Once the final buzzer sounds on the stage, you can't re-run it (re-shoots don't count!). Let it go and move on. Dwelling on a burple won't change the fact that it was made. All you can do is influence how you do in the future. Failure isn't getting knocked down, it's staying down. If i did well or felt I did, I have no problem in responding that way if asked. i don't come off the stage pumping my fists ala Tiger or checking to see how competitive I was in realtion to others. The run is what it is. If I get stroked by folks, that's fine and respond with a thanks. if someone wants to rip on a mike or a no-shoot, i let them and then ignore them.
  5. Flex, those cans are the wrong color - should be green. If you have PA shooters there you need PA stuff.... Brian mentioned considering the IDPA shooters and their schedule...did anyone read Front Sight this month on the joint USPSA/IDPA match....if you want to bring in shooters and/or expose them to our sports....may be a little ambitious for a first time but something to consider.
  6. Shoot well, make Team Ancient proud!
  7. DB, sorry you learned the hard way but thanks for relaying it to the rest of us. I rarely wear a hat, except when it is raining, and I remove it when I shoot just because it is something "different" for me to have to account for. I think you bring up a great point regarding what you plan to wear during practice versus what you wear in a match. Even the subtle change from shorts to long pants can make a difference. It would have been a different type of prone at Ohio if the box was not there to limit your legs. But all in all a good stage to learn things on...
  8. updated info now that i have been put in the proper place...58th of 93 shooters and 5th in production...woo hoo!
  9. aah...there was a previous post here, flex...matt trout asking about it...can't remember where it is...dealt with parallax and glasses...use your magic to find it!
  10. ... it's better to get the points if you can get them fast enough. Now that sums it up for me. Thanks, Erik!!
  11. Bad design or bad description. if the target is still visible it is not a disappearing one. If it is disappearing, it should not be visible.
  12. Vince, congrats! Matt, you'll have to buy a bigger house for all the stuff you are getting! Not sure where I ended up yet as I'm listed wrong. But Tom indicated he would fix it, so i'll have to wait and see how it shakes out.
  13. I do far better on a complete cof than I do on any single classifier. Jokingly called a sandbagger, but not by design. I do much better on a large stage than a stand and shoot...which is what most classifiers are.

    Congratulations...and a good karma sign!
  15. So folks, we did it at the Ohio Section, how did you do?
  16. Fun and challenging stages, going prone in the mud and straw, clods on your feet. What a hoot!! Well worth the 3 hours out!! Met several Enosverse folks. Aside from Flexmoney, Steve Anderson,Smoney and handgunner, met the ItalianStallion and a host of fine folks. Raynor's Range and the work that went into the match were excellent. Hat's off to all of them. Get the Seever dog if you go!! As for stages...well...all I can say is swinger baby! Mystery Theater is a fun run with the fast Raynor swingers, Will has two...nice little stage. Around and thru is a hot little 11 round number that production and limited 10 (if they want) can run in a ballsy fashion. Jungle House we liked so much we shot it twice...learned that Steve Anderson wants us all to engage any disappearing target!! Split decision...what a fun stage...pretend you are Gumby and you are fine! Long and short ports...too cool and our favorite no shoots! Malpractice perfect showed us that in ohio they eat with elbows and hands on the table...along with the infamous Raynor swingers and interestingly placed no-shoots. Slow but sure...a devious classifier...belly up folks!! Too much fun. Great job and kudos to Tom, Kyle and all others who helped.
  17. Erik, not patronizing at all! I don't want to give up on stages...can't improve if I do that! Just was kind of looking for the point of no return...good info to file away.
  18. Okay, now Erik hit the button. Me, i'd keep shooting, not really realizing the HF part. So i need to break out the calculator.......
  19. Now a disappearing target is one thing. I also did not choose to engage the DT as there would be no penalty for not doing so. Got that one figured! I guess I took your post to address something different.
  20. Quote: from 3quartertime on 9:05 pm on Sep. 26, 2002 I had the benifit of some increadible advise. Find someone to explain hit factors on each stage before you shoot. Many times at a big match there is negative benifit in actually finishing the COF. If the array is hard at your skill level you need to decide how many misses you are willing to accept before moving on. This is a time AND accuracy event. Sometimes leaving a few will be smarter, it's all in the math!!! Now this was an interesting comment that I would like to follow up on with the more experienced shooters. When does this come into play? I ask not just because 3qtr brought it up, but because I was actually thinking of doing something like this when i saw the stages at the Tri-State. Having heard so many horror stories of the Texas Star, i began to wonder what the effect would be if I did not finish it...decide after a point to stop shooting and move on. Fortunately when I ran it, it was nowhere near the issue I thought and did quite well on that stage. So...how does one make that decision?
  21. Leave it up...we'll be shooting IDPA and steel there in 2 weeks and we can run that as a cof!!
  22. Don't be so reserved, Dowter...tell us how you really feel
  23. We might make the Bob Evans meet...we'll be leaving Latrobe around 5 or so, so we should get there around 7...otherwise, we'll see you fine folks on Saturday. Keep the rain away! We don't mind the chill, just don't want to get wet...did that Saturday! Hey Flex, can we get some of those slick name tags to put on the back of our hats too??
