  1. Nik, Darn it! I was hoping on meeting some forum members, but I'm trying to switch to Sat AM to accomodate the mini-vacation I'm making of the weekend with my wife and kids...we plan to hit Hershey Park Sat PM & Sun. Bill
  2. I wonder if they had production run that came out faulty for some reason? Maybe poor heat treat or something? Yeah, that's what I was wondering because I just broke mine! It was a 45 version purchased in late summer of last year with 12k rounds on it.
  3. Keith, When did you buy your Aftec and what caliber is it? Bill
  4. Looks like like he's not turning his head first to acquire the target and letting his body follow...
  5. Cool thanks...I shoulda specified I was thinking of Super loads for 130 PF loads.
  6. It used to be that my left hand was a useless appendage, just hangin' out with no skills. I've been practicing weak hand a lot, dry firing every day and live firing weak hand almost every time I go to the range, because it's a HUGE weakness of mine. Recently I've been in these situations where my weak hand has unexpectatly done something it previously wasn't capable of doing. Example: I opened a kitchen cabinet a month or so ago(with my right hand), and a box of granola bars came sailing out of the cabinet, my left hand instintively and skillfully caught the box. I was blown away! I kinda sat there in awe A year and a half ago before I started ipsic my left hand would have stupidly watched the box fall. Anyone else have any similar experiences? Anyone ever try switching which hand you brush your teeth with?
  7. See my regurgitation of Travis Tomasie's post here: http://www.brianenos.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard...=3&start=30 I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I hope it helps. Bill
  8. Wow Julien, your English has improved immensely since April!!
  9. Search http://www.gunbroker.com for USPSA
  10. Go to http://www.gunbroker.com and do a search for USPSA.
  11. Brian, It's a singlestack 45. The Wilson extractor was fitted by Wilson and the Aftec by a local bullseye gunsmith who has an amazing resume. I just fitted a Nowlin last night. It has a tight fit with the FP stop, but I didn't think to see if it's hitting the barrel. I will be test firing it over lunch and I'll check out it's clearance w/the barrel then. Bill
  12. Nope, absolutely not, and I'm not doing the "throw a round in the chamber and let the extractor override it" either.
  13. I am shooting a SS 45. I had 12k rounds on a properly fitted Aftec, which broke yesterday. Last year I broke a standard Wilson unit that had 9k on it, and the stock SA one lasted all of 1k rounds. What gives? Is 10k or so rounds the typical lifespan for an extractor? In each case the hook broke off of the extractor. BTW, I called the Aftec guy today and he had me send the broken one in, I got the impression that he'll be replacing it free of charge (fingers crossed). Bill PS I wish this wouldn't have happened the week before our monthly ipsic match, but I know I should have had a spare extractor fitted.
  14. I applied for a job in Flagstaff last year and was looking at the real estate, it was expensive. Here in Maryland I have a 2600 sq ft two level house w/a large detached garage in a nice neighborhood, this woulda cost me well over $200k in Flagstaff, but other areas of AZ (especially those areas along the border) have inexpensive real estate. I think Flagstaff is so expensive because of the reasons BigDave stated, it's literally the perfect climate. Bill
  15. a "blur of instantaneousness," LMAO, great combo of words.
  16. They both had there reload mag at the gun...waiting...waiting...waiting...for the mag to drop out. That's amazing...is it normal for GM's?
  17. Course of fire dictates you start with gun in weak hand pointed downrange at a 45 degree angle. Do you start with the weak arm fully extended and pointed at 45 such that you raise the gun to the target, or do you strive for something closer to the body (still pointed at 45) so that you can punch the gun out? Sorry for the crappy explanation. Bill
  18. I ran through Matt Burkett's dry fire drills as found on his website http://www.mattburkett.com/ under Shooting Tips. It was great! It threw some flavor in the dry fire routine, anyway one of his drills is to do a reload while going from standing to prone. This was difficult for me and to make it easier I did the reload as I was going to kneeling, and then from kneeling I dropped to prone. Any tips or advice on this? I don't think the way I was doing it was right. Bill
  19. SCS, There's a decent long range classifier, CM 99-9 Long Range Standards.
  20. Thanks Flex! For anyone who's interested, here's what I found: http://www.1911forum.com/forums/showthread...ight=grit+grips
  21. I have been fiddling with the idea of getting Jerry Barnhart's grips http://www.jerrybarnhart.com/bpp.htm but just found out that Springfield Armory sells similar grips. I called to get a price and inquire whether they make them in S&A magwell style and it seems they do, and they're only $35. Does anyone have any experience with these? Bill
  22. Anyone going to this one? I'd like to get squadded with some forum members. I will be shooting my SS 45 in Limited, Saturday on the PM squad. Bill
  23. I think, if you have a good reload, you are at less of a disadvantage than you may think. I have started shooting my club's monthly classifier in both L-10 & Limited in an effort to get classified in Limited. Only one classifier has posted so far and with a flubbed up reload it was 65% in Limited vs a nice smooth L-10 which was 75%. Had I not flubbed the reload up I feel the Limited classifier would have been 70%ish. We will see how much of a disadvanatge it really is...I will be shooting the Area 8 Open/Limited Championship with a SS 45!!! Bill (Edited by Bill Schwab at 7:29 am on Aug. 6, 2002)
  24. Has anyone used WST in 38 Super or 10mm for 170 PF loads? Bill
