  1. Try the SDM Green Fiber optic sight at Brownell's ( I have it on my 627s & 625s)
  2. Brownell's has 38 Super Moon clips for the 8 shot 627 38/357 that fit 38 super (084-000-090) No reason to shoot major as the 8 shot in USPSA only scores minor. DM for pix
  3. Assumimg these are for a 38/357 the moon clip inside ID where the shells is .800, then it is 627 S&W. If .830 then Taurus 608 The S&W fit in the 608 and shoot fine but the S&W will NOT fit the Taurus 608.
  4. No sense making major as all 8 shot revolvers are scored minor in USPSA
  5. I use the same grip with my Revolver as my Semi-Autos, both thumbs forward...
  6. Not IDPA, ICORE, nor USPSA are the revolver shooters breaking the 180 nor muzzle rising above the berm nor sweeping their hand in front of the barrel. The RULES will DQ every shooter that does this and to say that this video is showing it happening ALL the time is not at any of the above matches... The guy in this video would EARN a DQ with unsafe gun handling at any of these Matches.
  7. DQ applies to any gun that is not handled safely...revolvers, semi-autos, shotguns, or rifles. I have shot revolvers since we 1984 and never earned a DQ. I used the old style for Police Pistol Combat (Jerry Miculek style) and now weak hand reloads as the barrel either way is never above the berm nor breaking the 180... No one is ever 'given' a DQ, they earned it by breaking the safely rules...
  8. All my training practices sessions are about improving my speed while keeping my accuracy. You should know that bigger matches will have distance, limited open targets, as well may have strong hand & weak hand standards. Just get use to your gun and keep your practice about improving speed and keeping your accuracy. This takes many hours of shooting so make it fun above all!
  9. With enough practise,, you will get the perfect draw 98% of the time. The other 2% you can adjust before the 1st shot. GM Jim Wall of Milt Sparks would practice his draw from his carry holster, a 1911 300 times a day. Jim has the smoothest and fastest on target draw if anyone I know.
  10. Hard to beat the Hogue rubberized grips. I have tried Herrett's, Packmayer, Hogue wood Big Butt, and JM grips but none have ever felt better or performed better in rain or shine than the Hogue.
  11. Loading the same 2000 cases I got in 1996. Very few have split over the years and I just toss them.
  12. I run only Hogue rubber grips on all my S&Ws, same grab & feel on every revolver!
  13. I have never had any issues with my 627s 38/357 but David is stating specifically the 929s 9MM which have many MIM parts that the early 627s didn't have.

  15. The 38 Colt Short is the cats meow for sure!
  16. I have used the BladeTec revo holster and their full moon clip holders since 1997. I also use the CR Speed velcro underbelt system. There are many options for gear including Safariland gear. DM me if you want pix, I cannot get my phone to download pix here...
  17. Nothing will ever be faster on revolver reloading other than the S&W 625 with Full Moon Clips in 45 acp. However the Safariland 'Jet' speedloader thumb activator for 38/357 is a bit faster than the HKS reloader that turns to insert. Not sure that many people shoot a 44 Mag /Special just because of ammo costs...
  18. I bought 3 627s from the 1st production run of S&W through Lew Horton Dist. These were also from S&Ws Performance Center but had pretty thoroughly fit parts, timing hands, and action trigger jobs. Not sure on new markings on guns like the 8 x 357 on either side of barrels but they were all 5" barrels and came with S&W full moonclips. The newer 8 shot revolvers have many more internal MIM parts than the early ones (before they added the lock & key to all of them) The two 929s I bought had the 6" bbl & trigger locks thinking these new breakout Performance Center guns would be like the early 627s. I had to do a ton of work on mine and neither came close to my 1997 627s. Others will tell you that the 1st production runs of the 5" bbl 627 8 shot were awesome compared to the 6" bbl 8 shot 9MMs BTW, my 627s will shoot the following calibers with very good groups in the 5" bbl. 38/357 38 Colt Short 38 Super (different moon clips)
  19. This is for a novice revo shooter. Like an under travel stop
  20. 185 gr Montana Gold JHPs with 5.7 gr of Titegroup made 925 fps at 1.235" oal and a ragged 6 shot group all rounds touching at 35 feet. Grouped well with Montana Gold 230 gr JHPs with 5.2 gr of Bullseye at 895 fps but it is a much dirtier powder.
  21. I bought 100s of Full Moon Clips from Steve Crawford at Ranch Products in the 80s when they were $25/100. I have no idea why these Moon Clips have got so expensive. When the 1st 8 shot revolver was mfg by Taurus in 1994, Mike Gurule would machine the cylinder and Pan Pacific in California EDM'd the Full Moon Clips for the 608 at close to the same prices as Ranch Products. After I bought my S&W 627 it came with 3 8 rnd Clips but I got Mike Kelley from the Performance Center to send me 100 as I had bought 3 of their 1st production guns made for Lew Horton. Not sure if these older Ranch Products 6 rnd 625 clips will work with your guns but if you need to try one send me your address.
  22. I use CCI 40gr HPs and gun barrel stays clean enough to shoot 200 rnds before the leading occurs. I also opened my cylinder gap from .0006" to .0010" that really helped on smooth running of the cylinder at my 14 lb trigger pull
