  1. Bob and dave have it right, Its all about the money. Average ranges have about 5 or so dedicated action pistol bays. Any match larger than that would require you to shut down the regular pistol and rifle lines which are the money makers. The fee to do that is usualy a few thousand dollars on top of the fee for the 5 other bays. Then there is the issure of who's gonna run the dam thing. I don't think anyone would want to put togeter a major match just for the sake of having one. Taking on a existing match is hard enough.
  2. bottom line pete, your gonna have to chrono.
  3. There will also be the Bay Bridge Charity Classic...tenativly set for oct 23-24. not quite summer.
  4. Performance is still rewarded if you award by class place, its just not form the top down. Ok.... I've got stuff to give away. I dont want to give it away randomly and I dont want to give it away by order of finish. I still want to reward top shooters yet still let the lower class winners to get something. I want to hear some creative suggestions.
  5. of course we would bring out the good chinette....
  6. Would it be even more interesting if say only 3 of the 7 were prize stages? More than likely you would go all out and risk throwing the match. L2S this is a charity match, majority of the prizes will be dontated. Prizes is usualy what draws more people out to shoot the match. Our match sponsor wants to award by performance somehow, not necessarly order of finish.
  7. Had an idea that I was kicking around and wanted to see what the rest of you thought. Say we have a 7 stage match with aprox. 150 shooters. Instead of distributing prizes by order of finish, we award prizes by 1st-3rd in class, in each division, per stage. There would have to be a certain number of shooters in each class to go all the way out to 3rd place,5-10-15. Larger prizes would go for the stages with more avalible match points. This give multiple opritunitys to win something and doesn't only award overall performance. Granted, it is possible for one shooter to win all the stages in his class. However, it allso gives a person who might not win overall more of a chance to get something.
  8. But, I bet you were proud of yourself when your first few....
  9. For the most part I feel I'm in the right class in the . My percentage decient representation of my shooting abilitys. I do however do better on speed shoots. Most major matches I shoot my percentage.
  10. Its normal and is caused by the "vent hole" in the seating stem. If it bothers you that much you can chamfer the radius edge of the hole or switch to jacketed. make sure that you are using the correct side for the bullet profile you are using.
  11. Think of it as penalty, like hitting a no-shoot. Don't think of it as taking away a hit. The penalty in this case is 5 points.
  12. what, no one can turn their's with their fingers?
  13. I know your trying to stick with the same powders you are using for your .45. I tried the same thing when I got my .40. Don't remember the exact load, low to mid 5s i think, but I do recall it was pretty snappy, the sights didnt settle well, more soot than i cared for. I now stick with n320 or clays. Just because they are close to each other on some burn rate charts doenst mean they will perform the same. Burn rate charts are not to be used for developing loads. The charts in themselvs are terribly inconsistant between manufacturers. Compair hodgdon and Vhit charts. Many people swear by tightgroup, though i have yet to try it. Vhit and Hodgdon are redily avalible.
  14. If that is the case, what are you personally doing to try and increase membership in your area, other than complaining about it? Open 10 is not the awnser. Why should potential new shooter want to buy a scope and a comp to be compeitive in that division when the same gun could be used without modifications in L10. if you want to shoot 10 rounds with an open gun try steel challenge, or move to Hawaii where everyone has to.
  15. Anybody going to this match? I've never been. Is it any good? I'm getting the major match itch and this is the first one that is remotely close to my area.
  16. another positive for the CMJ in open guns is that it will keep the lead buildup out of your comp.
  17. I tried some AA2 and it was really snappy and had an overly loud report.. My biggest complaint was that it is dirty as hell. Needless to say I still have 3/4 of a bottle left.
  18. Its decient if you can get your hands on it. That powder has been discontinued.
  19. Reed's Indoor Range in santa clara has a Monday night ppc and modified tyro leagues. Tyro uses 3 mini ipsc targets and 3 mini upper a/b zones. @ 7 yards. the Azone is roughly the size of buisness card. There are several timed strings including: 2 shots each target, reload and re-engage 2 shots each. Very much like an el prez without the trun and draw. No hosters though, all shooting is done from the low ready. (408)970-9870
  20. I still have my $25 check form last year. Im sure my section treasurer thanks me for it. If fact I know quite a few people that have their checks still uncashed. 25 bucks is almost meaningless. Id rather have a 5 dollar plaque than 25 bucks. IF I was in your MD shoes I would give money/ plaque to 1st in class and small plaques to 2nd and 3rd. In the last few years the section match hasn't given plaques for 2nd and 3rd. 3rd place in some classes is quite an acomplishment and should be reconized. $175 for class winner is cool if the match fee is $100 or lower.
  21. So is a whole new book going to be published soon?
  22. Don't know if you have taken into consideration what the voltage requirements are where you are going. Not everyone uses 110vAC @60hz. Might be worth looking into. That aside, my midway tumbler has been abused for many years and continues the run.
  23. I must be lucky, but I have never seen a need for dies other than my factory dillon dies. I have loaded 50k+ rounds of .40. All started as 1x brass from midway and have not had a single round that failed the case gague. The initial sizing effort is heavy, but after you fire the stuff through a fully supported barrel the next time around it slides through the press like butter.
