  1. Well if I remember correctly Jerry did that in 2.99 starting from the first shot and without a draw. So if you add 0.8 for the draw, that would make it 3.79 sec. So I would say unless you happen to be talking to Jerry Miculek anything under 3.5 is insanely low and is worthy of a BS call.
  2. I wouldn't think working backwards would help in gaming a stage, and you shouldn't really run out of rounds either. You just need to carry as many rounds as possible. I have 8 moon clip holders on my belt, I put another one in my back pocket plus the one in the gun to start that gives me 60 rounds. Basically I treat it like L-10, if you're moving, you're reloading. Unless something like the first two positions of a stage have 4 targets each for 8 rounds per position. You're gonna have a standing reload at both positions regardless, so you might as well keep the 4 rounds left in the gun from the first position to take to the next. Every now and then I can pick a shot or position that might save me a reload, but it's not going to save you any time over a square gun. I love shooting revolver, but the thing you have to realize is in USPSA shooting a revolver is all about the reload. You'll spend way more time reloading than shooting, so if you're gonna dry fire practice, I feel that is where your time should be spent. And when people give you a hard time for shooting ol' roundside, just tell them you get more value for your entry fee because you get more time on the range. Good Shootin
  3. I agree with Flex. I shot a P-16 for years without the grips on. When you take off the grip there is wierd right angle on the grip and a hole in the frame by the trigger bow. Guncraft sells a "grip filler" for this and it is perfect. Once taking off the grips, install the grip fillers and it nicely rounds off the rear of the grip. Then you can wrap the whole grip in whatever tape you prefer. I always liked the stair tread tape. Also I used to super glue the corners down and it always stayed in place. This matched with an S&A magwell was a great setup. I don't have a link to Guncraft, but their grip filler things were in Brownells last time I looked.
  4. At 40K rounds I guess it could be shot out depending on your load and bullets, although I would think you should get more out of it. Who says never to clean your barrel? Haven't heard that one before.
  5. I think the classifer system is pretty good. I'm not sure of a better way to do it. But I don't think it is a true representation of skill given the type of courses we normally shoot. I think a lot of the problem stems from the fact that many of the classifers don't get shot that often and not by the "right" people. As I understand it, the HHF's are an average of the top scores anyway. But my thing is a lot of times I shoot a classifer and think I burned it down and the percentage sucked or I thought I didn't do that great and had 90% or something. A good bench mark I've noticed is, the easier the classifer stage is to set up, the higher the HHF is respectively. If it is easy to set up then it probably has been shot a bunch more times than a classifer that is a pain to set up. Therefore, law of averages is somebody has shot that one well. I think the "fix" is to change out all the classifers. There is a post on here somewhere where I talked about this. But I would like to see either at a nationals or a special "invitation" match. Have all new classifers, shot under match conditions, by as many pro's as they can get to a match. I'll bet everybody's national percentage would move up quite a bit. As it stands now, I feel I have to shoot a little out of control to have a classifer worthy of moving me up. (although that also could mean I'm not getting any better)
  6. 127 @ 15.92 for 7.9774 HF Limited M Had a lot of D's on the middle target, I've been shooting low and or left lately. I think I need to work on my grip. But I think the time was quick enough to make it a good one. I need it, I'm going to be master with an A class percentage here pretty soon. Edit 11/12/03 It did come in at 100%...that's my first in Limited. Alot of my good classifers look like this, I'm way down on points but fast. I know speed counts but it's just hard to believe you can be 23 points down and shoot a 100%. Oh well, I'll take it.
  7. Those stages look awesome! Wish I could make it. Shoot well guys.
  8. I kinda sorta made one. I didn't have the sound working and I had to carry my camcorder in a back pack. The video is very cool, but for training purposes I think you get more out of seeing yourself filmed so you can watch for stance, recoil control, movement, reload, etc. .vs the "shooters eye view" of the hoser cam. But like I said the video is very cool, especially to show non-shooters. So if you got money to burn......burn on!!!
  9. Get Jerry's video and spring kit. It is easy to follow and do yourself. I haven't measured my trigger but it is light, smooth, and always goes bang. I did a trigger job myself years ago and it was pretty good. But once I re-did it via Jerry's info it was even better. Ditto on the Federal Primers also.
  10. Great points. The gun makes little difference. As someone pointed out in another thread, look at the Ltd Nationals. Top six finishers....six different guns.....within 6%. It doesn't get any more clear than that.
  11. One of the best matches I've been to. The range was great, the stages were outstanding, the RO's were awesome, and the damn thing was right on schedule. I've shot my fair share of "big" matches, and that was one of, if not the best match I've seen. The stages were great, nothing to fancy, just well thought out set up's. I know at least 3 stages I don't think anyone I saw shoot it the same way, that is a sign of a good stage IMO. The RO's were courteous, fun, some in costume (damn you fluffy). I saw the benifit of the doubt go to the shooter more than once.....but no gimmies. And somehow everything was on schedule. I know that is the first match that has happened. I don't know how, but they had an hour per stage and then right on to the next stage. And it worked! I think the only hold up was the shooter before me broke the hinge on the door of stage 8, we made the wrong decision to try and continue and I pretty much finished it off so that took a while to fix, but no big deal. Thanks to Bill, Cindy, and Roger K., and the many other people involved in putting on a 1st class match. That was my first trip to the GA State and I guarantee it won't be my last. Smitty
  12. anybody know what time the Fri. shooters are expected to finish up? Or if there will be a range available Fri. for function firing? We're heading out early in the AM. See you guys there.
  13. Nik, I've got one, Model FX-23 for whatever that's worth. I think it is great, I've had it about 5 years. I was looking at adding my guns as a rider to my insurance policy and the cost and hassle was crazy. So I figured for a grand or so I could have all the security you could want. You will be happy with it.
  14. I don't know where you live, but APW in FL did my chrome job and I was happy with it.
  15. Roger, Are they sending out any confirmation? If so, I haven't received anything. Smitty
  16. TL, I'm not sure. I've discussed recoil difference between a SS .45 and S_I .40 with a shooting buddy at length. And basically we didn't come up with a good answer. Power factor, kinetic energy, size and weight of gun, etc. all come into play somehow. I imagine the full dustcover of the STI plays a bigger part than the polymer grip. The bottom line is I've shot a lot of .45 through my SS and a lot of .40 thorugh my STI and there is no quesiton the recoil is less with the STI for me. As I said I can feel it and I've seen it on video. Don't get me wrong I LOVE shooting the SS, it feels good, fits me well, and is a blast to shoot. But the STI is way easier to shoot, control recoil, and reload (for me) I would be curious as to the opinion of others who own and shoot both a SS in .45 and an S_I in .40.
  17. I feel the wide body has an advantage, obviously it is much easier to load. Also I feel the recoil control is much better with a wide body. I shoot a Kimber SS in .45 and an STI Edge w/ full dustcover in .40. Through feel and backed up by watching video, the recoil is without a doubt less with the STI for me. Just my opinion Bucky.
  18. Thanks for the offer Vince, I was going to take you up on it but thus far it hasn't been to bad. Chucky, Nik, Bucky, Thanks, that was the answers I was looking for. I didn't realize L-10 was supported mainly due to the restrictive states. I will leave you L-10 guys alone now. I don't buy the SS is as fast as a wide body thing, but that's a different topic. Thanks for the replies and for not 'beatin me down' to bad Smitty
  19. Ok, Don't anyone shoot me, I really would like answers to these points so I understand better where everyone is coming from. A couple of points I've had on the L-10 issue haven't been answered. Why not make L-10 a single stack only division? Here's why, and what I would like opinions on. 1) Glocks, Sigs, HK's, etc. can shoot Production or Limited 2) If you're shooitng an STI downloaded you can shoot Limited A) If you live in a restricted state then everybody is L-10 Around here (FL) the L-10 shooters seem to either shoot a full house S_I downloaded or a single stack. I don't feel Single Stack's are competitive against the S_I's. It seems to me that the single stack is the only gun without a place to play anymore. I don't think we should get rid of L-10 or combine it with Limited. It most certainly has brought in new shooters. Either don't change it at all or make it SS. So what is the reason, is it so the restricted state folks can shoot their S_I's at a major match without buying new mags for Limited? That's the only good argument I can see for keeping it like it is? Don't get PO'ed, I'm just looking for answers. Have a great day!!
  20. Well, new brass will be "stickier" than used brass, but it's hard to tell without knowing how "hard" it was sticking. If you don't lube your cases, I would try that. I use dillon's case lube but from the remarks on the forum the "One Shot" is better. I haven't tried that yet.
  21. I don't understand all the debate over this topic, it's very simple. Open - Leave it alone Limited - Leave it alone Limited 10 - Single Stack Only, race rigs allowed. Production - Leave it alone Revolver - Leave it alone A good ol' SS 1911, the backbone of our sport is the only gun that is left out under the current structure. Now the quicker everyone gets online with me, the quicker we could get back to shooting. Have a nice day
  22. Myself and about 5 guys from Tampa are coming up. We should schedule a "BE Belongers Booze Bash".....or we could just meet somewhere for a beer but I thought the first one sounded better. Seriously, if anyone knows the area lets plan on something one evening.
  23. Oops, I forgot to add the reason I was replying to this thread. I shot a match this weekend at a range I don't normally shoot at, I guess due to some range restrictions and a new club pres., they had some really difficult stages. I think the highest HF for the match was 5 or 6 with most being around 2 or 3. It was by far the most challenging match I have shot. Tons of hard cover, wierd shooting positions, no-shoots, distance, alot of ports with only one target to shoot. Just a tough, choppy match. We had many shooters zero a couple stages. (a good sign of to many penalties available IMO) Anyway the point is, a few shooters tried to skip some of the stage requirements, either to save time or because of frustration at the match. (One stage, only 5 of 30 shooters shot it clean) They either skipped low ports or skipped targets, but the HF's were so low that there was no way it would factor out in their favor. I think it would be a rare stage where it would work out. (Or a poorly designed stage) But if you can beat the stage designer .....Game On
  24. h4444, I think you pretty much answered your question. With even a moderately well designed stage it won't be benificial to skip targets unless they are DT's. Or if it is a less skilled shooter that is going to take all their ammo to clear a star. Also remember, it doesn't really matter how many points are in a stage, it matters what the HF will be for you. The lower the hit factor the more important your points become. As has been said, you can't miss fast enough to win.
  25. Ahh......you gotta love Mr. Murphy!!!
