  1. Sorry, how many tool heads are coming with this press? Is it one for each caliber? If so, it would be north of 3k to replace. While common practice suggests used items are prices at 80% or so of new, the 1050 just doesn't die so I wouldn't offer any less.
  2. If you're in or around Kandahar AFB, stop in for a spell with the Canadians and treat yourself to a Tim Horton's coffee. My B-I-L is currently a chairborne ranger at Bagram AFB and says they are able to source virtually all of the random comfort items they need.
  3. So I detail cleaned my press today, and noticed that the contact surface of the primer seating punch was chipped on one edge. About 100 degrees of the outside edge is chipped off and undercut on the contact surface. I'll call Dillon to get a replacement part, as well as a spare primer magazine cap. I wonder if this has been the cause of my odd primer misfeed?
  4. Dude deserves a gold medal. Being french doesn't alleviate the pain of a last name that sounds like Dildo.
  5. You will quickly get used to it. At least I did. I just practice prepping the trigger while I have my sights on the target and am moving the gun into full extention.
  6. The powder you and I buy is refered to as canister grade. It's essentially a QC guarantee that the powder you buy today as Brand X will have the same bulk density and burning rate as the can your grandfather bought 50 years ago. To produce canister grade powders, the manufacturers have to maintain excellent QC in the process, and address any variables to deliver an absolutely consistant product. The ammo companies MIGHT use canister grade powder in thier ammo, but they don't have to. The ammo companies simply need to be able to load ammo that propels a projectile at a given velocity withing a given pressure range. Non-canister grade powder is often used. In some cases, non-canister grade powder is sold to the public as a one-off lot usually with some loading data developed with that lot.
  7. I hope this machine works well. As 650's outnumber 1050's by likely 10-1, if this product takes off it means the chances of support and upgrades for the product line.
  8. I will double check with the Canadian importer, as I believe he MIGHT have sourced some parts direct from Grand Power. However, I asked Sean a few months back about the availability of spare parts like recoil springs, extractors, etc. At the time he said STI didn't have much available, but they were prepared to strip parts from live guns if needed. As far as I know, there are no specific aftermarket springs available. However, Grand Power is more of a designer than a manufacturer. FN Herstal supply the raw slide castings GP designed. CZUB machine the barrels. GP itself mold the frames and machine the frame inserts. I set mine up with the fiber optic front sight, Dynamic fixed rear, and the stainless big button mag release. Don't let the other comments about the ND while dropping the hammer phase you. It's never happened to me yet.
  9. You may find many K100 owners cowering in fear. If they got the bitch back together, they likely won't repeat the process. The origional used two spring loaded detents in the steel frame insert to provide tension on the safety lever. They are a royal pain in the ass to re-install. The updated version moves those detents into the polymer frame as captive detents. As for the trigger pull weight, about the only means of lightening it will be to replace the factory mainspring, located within the hammer itself. It's a relatively short fat spring, so simply cutting a coil could be overkill. The double action pull has the trigger bar pulling the hammer notch forwards until the bar is forced to drop and release the notch. Other than the hammers sides and the crosspin that the sprint bear against, there isn't a lot of friction surface to be polished. The single action is very sweet as is, and other than a simple deburring, I doubt you'll find much to improve. I've got 4K or so on mine, with zero malfunctions.

    STI GP6

Have you tried one yet? The trigger out of the box is swell.
  11. The warranty issue is a non-starter. Anything you can't break in a year, you very likely can't break at all. Should you wear out a part through herculean efforts, you will not begrudge paying for a replacement.
  12. I question if the savings in ammo is worth the dicking around with differnet loads.
  13. The case feeder adapter is normally in the conversion kit for that caliber. There is no big problem lifting oout the case feed plate and adding or removing the spacer. The new powder measures are as you describe, and work fine. Some bitch that the new linkage is clunky feeling.
  14. When I e-mailed Dillon today, I was told 1/4 is the size to get. I discovered the clip from the .38 Special dies I'd bought used was missing the clip, and my 9mm die's clip was cracked. Fortunately the old style stem works, so I cannibalized an older set.
  15. I don't want to get into too many personal details, but for multiple reasons it's a no-lose situation.
  16. Regretably, my cousin just informed me that after 15+ years of marriage, she and her husband are calling it quits. I wasn't aware that they had seperated for a few months several years back, but reconciled. She says that despite her best efforts, the marriage isn't viable. As it happens, I have a friend who would be a good match for her personality. If nothing else, he'd be a good set of training wheels for her if she get's back into dating.
  17. I was able to score enough before the prices started to climb that I probably won't need any for 2010. Here's hoping this time next year the prices and availability have stabilized.
  18. I know a few people who have franchises. If she isn't willing to spend 10-12 hours a day on site working, forget it. If she doesn't have 100% of the start up capitol in the bank right now, forget it. If she's not prepared to hire the willing and fire the useless, forget it. Having friends and family on the payroll only works if theyy work as hard or harder than the kid off the street. You can not make one work with other peoples money, or other peoples management. Even at that, she needs to know that this is a risk, and she has to be able to go on with her life if it fails.
  19. OK Sports fans, I have 1050 with the 9mm shellplate. Can I get away with using the smae shellplate to load .40 by just switching the buttons from the #3 to the #2?
  20. I'm a regular on a Canadian forum that has a huge Exchange sub forum. This type of complaint comes up regularly. I used to take a critical look at something I was selling, and list it at an honest price. However, I did expect to get that price. It must have worked because rarely did I ever go more than a day without finding a buyer. However, over the years I became annoyed at the volume of guys who would try and low ball even deflated prices. Now when I do sell something, I post pictures of it's condition, highliting anything that ought to be pointed out. I give a detailed description of the item. And I also add a comfortable margin of price padding. If I get a decent offer, great, but I'm no longer afraid to sit and wait. Some guys just have to haggle. I accomodate them by inflating my asking price. The sale price is still the same.
  21. My mother made a decision during the summer to quit smoking after 50+ years, taking my dad along for the ride. They were easily 3 pack a day people. They tried the patch, and that got them down to a few cigarettes a day, usually just a puff or two and then put away for later. Last time I checked, they were in a holding pattern, still smoking a few a day but no longer on the patch. Last night at my boys birthday party, they shared that they have been smoke free for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Prior to this, quite frankly I figured we were just a few years away from a funeral or two. Mom could barely breath some days, and dad had a constant cough for the last 5-6 years. Things are looking up!
  22. M-I-C, K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E Just save up and get a Mr. BulletFeeder. You will be happier in the long run.
  23. Hmm, that's odd. I suspect you are right, and limpwristing is the key to your problem. The obvious solution is to improve your grip during practice. In the interim, you might want to consider using ammo with 147gr bullets. It's just a guess, but the shove of the eavier bullets might be better for your situation tan the snap of the lighter bullets.
  24. I must be the odd duck who runs his origional witout any issues.
  25. 9mm generally need very little crimp. Just take the bell out and a tad more. Measure the case wall thickness, double it, add the total to the bullet diameter, and subtract .001 .379 should do it.
