  1. Ok sports fans, stupid question of the day. My friend and I were chronographing ammo today. His well worn but great condition SP01 was launching my ammo consistantly 50 fps or more slower than my STI GP6. While my gun consistantly printed 875-890fps, his was 825-845fps. I was the shooter for both guns and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Prior to his purchase, this gun likely ate 20K of WWB ammo. Does barrel wear affect velocity over time??
  2. I made the decision a few years back to buy the 1050 over the 650. I knew it was more expensive, and a bit more pain to switch calibers. At the time, I could afford it, and as I tend to load a buttload at a time, it didn't really matter if it took me five minutes or all day to switch calibers. I set the swagger and backing rod to just barely swage the primer pockets, but it really does make all the difference. Range brass no longer is a problem. I also really like the priming on the downstroke. I know some prefer the ability to feel the primers going in, but all I care about is noticing the ones that fail to go in properly, and you still feel that on the 1050. For the cost of a loonie each, my 7 year olds tray up and inspec the primers on my loaded ammo.
  3. And it's the headspacing issue that will bite you every time. Several years back, a friend of mine had literally tons of once fired Winchester .223 Rem brass for sale. I bought most of it, and processed them. I had a 1050 set up with the carbide dies, swager, and trimmer all adjusted for the crimped Winchester brass. Since I hate getting jams, I took the time to sort cases prior to cleaning, and only processed Winchester crimped brass. I used and regularly checked the finished cases with the Dillon headspace guage. All was well until I ran out of Winchester brass and began using the assorted Federal cases I had left over. All of a sudden, my finished cases varied wildly in length and were overworked, falling below the minimum mark in the headspacing guage. My working theory is that the Federal brass had less springback. I would never concider processing .223Rem unless it was all one headstamp. I don't have time to check 1000 cases.
  4. Any feedback on his timing? I recieved an e-mail from Rick. Things are looking positive and contacting him now with your interest may be advisable. What's his contact info? It's listed on the website, www.mrbulletfeeder.com Thanks
  5. Since I tend to load several thousand at a time, I sit while loading. My benches have been built so the handle of the 1050 will come to rest just above my knee. That puts the top of the bench at 28 inches using a standard rolling office chair. I strap the concrete wall with a 2x6 and tapcon it into place. The bench is made of a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 plywood, good on one side which has been ripped down the center. The bottom layer is screwed at the back edge to the wall strap and held up at the front edge with 4x4 pressure treated posts. Behind the posts, a 2x6 is screwed to the posts and to the bottom sheet. The top surface of the bottom sheet is the rough side. To it I apply a tube of PL Premium adhesive and then I slide the top sheet on, rough side down. The top sheet is screwed at the back edge through to the wall strap, and along the edges and across the 2x6 center support. Only small problem with this type of construction is that I need to pound the backing washers for the press bolts under the 2x6 for the back two holes.
  6. Don't laugh, but in reviewing my performances last season, i came to the conclusion that I wasn't getting enough C's in my short range stages. Far too often, I was getting perfect A's in the close targets. It suggested to me that I was being too cautious and need to risk a bit more to gain speed.

  8. They get to watch about 2hrs a day, IF they do thier chores. Half an hour in the morning, an hour after homework, and half an hour at bed. Weekends, it all depends on the weather. However, now that the boys like earning money, often while I reload, they tray and primer check loaded ammo. It's amazing what you can get done for a Loonie.
  9. Just curious, but for those who've managed to light off a primer tube, what damage if any did your ceiling endure? My kids watch TV directly over my press. I'm thinking about screwing in a 3/4 thick plywood shield just to be safe.
  10. Is it my imagination, or does this pull USPSA further away from the IPSC rule book?
  11. I size with a Dillon die, but use the Lee Factory Crimp die in the last station.
  12. Assuming that it's a double struck plated bullet, the base will likely not be hollow so much as a shallow dimple. If it's a swaged lead core, it's easier to allow for metal flow under pressure with curves than square edges.

    STI GP6

Not that my opinion means much, but I think you need to start out with a simple question. Plastic or steel? If you like plastic, carry on. If at your heart, you're a steel fan, than the CZ SP01 Shadow is something you need to look at long and hard. The GP6 in my opinion has a much better grip feel, and reduced muzzle flip than the Glock. The trigger is so superior to the striker fired Glock that there just isn't any comparison. Accuracy has much to do with the nut on the end of the handle, so all I can say is mine is very accurate. I don't think the GP6 is so great that Shadow owners will be selling up and re-equiping. However, if you like combat polymer, you will very likely like the GP6.

I use the current model, and can't see any reason why the "C" model wouldn't be allowed.

My boys are 7 years old. Last summer, I took them, one at a time, to IPSC matches. Too young to shoot, they became the squad mag rats, helping collect mags and patch the lower targets. This year I'm thinking about seeing if they can behave themselves together on the range. I planned on bringing a tarp and handing them each a brass bag to scour the range as we move forward. They could then sort the brass by caliber and leave the cases in piles for the guys to collect.
  16. To be fair, I'd like to know what height and weight are conscidered normal for the seats of your average airliner? Back in my younger days, and 36 inch jeans, my 6'2" frame didn't fit so well in the coach seats. These days, fogeaboutit!
  17. If at all possible, fly Air France. They have a reputation for being pretty decent with gun owners that are not screaming "Dirka Dirka, Mohammed, Jihad!!" and trying to storm the cockpit.
  18. Come on Ricky Baby, the cash is burning a hole in my pocket!! Start shipping soon before I do something stupid like by a Commie made M4 clone.
  19. If you don't need to get the snowblower out so the dog can have a crap, it's not a snowfall.
  20. I've always built my bench so the handle would come to rest just above my knee. On the 1050, while my right arm is fine, my left get's tired from loading bullets. Sounds like a good reason to by a KISS.
