  1. Finding a chamber reamer that will fit into the polygonal rifling will be the major hurdle to over come with using a 9mm barrel. Rich
  2. 14# is too light, eventually you will have reliability issues. When the spring is too light the firing pin spring will push the slide out of "battery", when you pull the trigger all that will happen is the slide will close and it won't fire. Some think this is a light strike which it isn't. Doing a hard reload can bump the slide back, quick movements with the gun can also aid in moving the slide back. When you pull the slide back around an inch and let go the slide should snap back quickly if it moves sluggishly the spring is too weak. Rich
  3. A couple more, Henning Wallgren shooting stage, 16 had a picture of Rob but it disappeared before Rob got there and my crew who shot for me this year. Rich
  4. Here's a couple pictures I took this weekend. The winners Rob and Julie, the ladies crew, and Debbie and Tony Hawkins little boy who rode on the quad all weekend. Rich
  5. Being that the gun is a 9x21 it is probably a small frame gun which means it cannot be converted to a 38 super. There is 9x21 brass available new and used if you look around, I've bought several thousand rounds in the last year new for under $100 per thousand. We loaded 9x21 to 175pf+ back in the day with ease. I've got a Silver team similar to one you have and have no plans to rebarrel it to 9mm. Rich
  6. Extractor tension and it has to have a full hook, you need a load with enough power to cycle the slide fully. Squeaking in at 125 isn't enough to fully cycle the gun with 100% reliability, 135pf would be the base to start from. Look at the brass being used for a full rim for the extractor to hook onto. Are you putting enough crimp on the rounds you are loading? If you have recently changed something go back to what you were using prior and see if the problem occurs. Rich
  7. If your going to shoot in Limited Div. I would go with the Limited Pro. To make any of the Witness guns competition ready you will be putting in Hennings trigger system(trigger, hammer, sear, pins, and springs) and a stainless steel magwell, so why pay for parts that won't be used. If you have to have a full dust cover and a bull barrel then the Limited would be the gun to start with. The Stock would be the gun for Production Div.. The Match is a good base gun to start with if you want to do a full blown custom gun built to your specs. Rich
  8. Factory Comped guns will say "Factory Comp" on the front of the slide, they are bushing barreled comps with a dual or triple port comp. They basically look like what they call a Mil-Spec now with a comp. They were a production line produced guns, they turn up for sale quite frequently on the internet sites. They generally sell for around $600 to $800 for a new in the box one. Eric has Custom Shop guns not Factory Comp guns
  9. I found this thread way back on page 4, we're getting close and no chatter. I just took the the prize gun in I'm building for a finish. Rich
  10. Take a look at the Canyon Creek 140mm base pad kits, they will hold the max capacity possible and are made from aluminum which is more durable. Rich
  11. Putting in a new barrel won't guarantee the velocity will go up, it could go down. Trying to get the same power factor from two different guns and the same load is a matter of luck. Now if the same gun and ammo show a big difference between two chrono tests eliminate all variables before jumping into a new barrel. I'd just bump the powder charge to get the desired PF, when accuracy goes away then start to look at a new barrel. I once saw the same ammo(new brass, same lot run of powder and primers) used in three different guns with varying round counts, the gun with the highest round count(50K+) had the fastest velocity, the second gun with a round count of(20K+) made major but was 35 fps slower than gun #1, the third gun had a new barrel with less than 500 rounds it was the slowest and went minor. Rich
  12. The XD 45acp can be shot in Production-L10-Limited-Open Divisions. With 140mm mags it will hold 18+1 rounds. Is anyone making a magwell for the XD45? Canyon Creek makes the only true magwell for the XD/m line of guns. Rich
  13. For a f/o on a Springfield order one from Dawson for the Springfield, SA uses a wider cut on the front sight than the rest. Rich
  14. An e-mail would be returned if it was received. Rich
  15. It's well worth the cost for a flight over the canyon, take the longest flight you can. When I did it I sat up front with the pilot, a better view from there for taking pictures. It's a very different perspective from above, someday I'll float down the river for that view. Rich
  16. Canyon Creek does it. There are two different bases, one for the fixed novak and another for the adjustable novak. Rich
  17. Caspian-Springfield-Tanfoglio-and then SVI would be my choice order and nothing else would be considered. Rich
  18. 9 days is all it lasted, it's up for sale Rich
  19. An auction ended earlier tonight with the high bidder going under the name "eaacorp", purchased the "Snakecharmer" trademark (.410 break action shotgun) for the small sum of $30,000.00. If this bidder is the actual EAA Corporation, just think what 30k could do to promote and advance the "Witness" line of pistols from Tanfoglio. It will be interesting to see what they do with this model. Rich
  20. Cracked slides, STI and Les Baer lead the way in that category. Rich
  21. I would say Springfield is the only choice to consider, they are built on high quality steel forgings, their small parts are the same from the GI to the high end models. STI isn't the end all answer as some seem to think. Rich
  22. philg80, Trigger jobs are legal in USPSA Production. Rivr, I would go with the Canyon Creek parts but I'm a little bias on that. Rich
  23. Comp no. Magwell and 140mm mags are a big improvement, a stainless mag well will give a better balance and better hand position besides faster and easier reloads. You will get 24 rounds with a 140mm length mag, 5 rounds extra could be the difference in having to do a reload or not. The tungsten guide rods will also improve the guns manageability, also don't for get an extended mag release, sights, or a grip treatment. Rich
  24. The guys who demo'd the Lincoln welders would weld two razor blades together, sharp edge to sharp edge. Rich
