  1. Yeah I never even tried using the opposite-facing mag pouches. Doesn't make sense -- Don't really understand why SA did that.. It works for both right and left hand shooters. Rich Don't forget to checkout Canyon Creek.
  2. You strip the finish off in an Muratic acid bath or you cold run it through a blast cabinet to roughen up the finish so the new finish can adhere to it better. Rich
  3. The model 58 uses the trigger assembly almost identical to the model 1100, I would suggest a good cleaning and check to see if you can see anything that might be broken. If you can find an 1100 trigger assembly to compare to yours, you might be able to see what is out of place, like a spring in the sear area. Rich
  4. The Canyon Creek XD Tactical 45 acp guide rod will fit in with a mod to the lower lug on the barrel, that rod is 4.7 ounces. I was thinking of doing a two piece rod with a full diameter on the end and slightly longer than the than the tac. acp rod. That should make 5 ounces easy, but after fitting the Tac. rod I decided to skip the extra end piece. I will have more rods made and in stock by the end of the week hopefully. Rich
  5. Rebuild kits are available at Canyon Creek. Rich
  6. As long as the back up gun is Division legal you can switch to it. It doesn't matter if there is an advantage or not, in the old days the two guns needed to be identical right down to the caliber. If an advantage could be gained then you couldn't switch. Rich
  7. Yes, that can be done. Going back to 9mm will be a problem if you ever decide to. A new top end in 40 would be the most versatile option. The frame rails can be welded up and refitted to make the 9mm slide tighter. Rich
  8. Jerry, 1. A gunsmith trigger job is the best route to go, trigger kits won't get the same results. 2. No 3. Any of the releases(CC-PRP-SP) that have the same diameter through out, button type heads aren't legal. 4. The factory barrels are high quality, they can be refitted tighter. The aftermarket barrels will give the same results as a refitted factory barrel. Rich
  9. The plain truth is all finishes will show wear if they weapon is used. What it boils down to is how do you want your gun to look and what finish will accomplish this with the minimal amount of wear that will show over time. Rich
  10. I received on of these pistols today, it is like the other air soft pistols I have. The magazines are a little heavier than my other wide body 1911's. The feel of the gun is very similar to a real XDm, the polymer has a harder feel to it. It is a pretty good copy of the the XDm, it will be fun to play with. Rich One another note since I went to the web site to look at this unit I was amazed at how many guns that they are copying. It bothers me that they are using names that I don't think they have gotten permission to use. I could be wrong about the others, but a source at Springfield said they had no idea this was going on and no permission was given to use their trademarks. Some other names I saw were SV, Brazos, Night Hawk, Lim Cat to name a few.
  11. The SV grip and mag well are designed to work together, the Dawson won't fit. Besides the Dawson is smaller and has a flatter bevel. Rich
  12. Jay Christy had it happen at the '97 Limited Nationals(super squad) on a 23 round coarse. It happened on the first or second shot, he kept going like it didn't happen. He had a competitive time and score with no misses, it even had poppers in it. The sight was stuck straight up for the whole coarse. Rich
  13. Change your front sight height so the rear doesn't have to be elevated so high that it causes this problem. Rich
  14. Not true! The new XDm is worldwide trademark. The old XD was for North America only and the rest world had HS2000's. OK, but did they get permission from Springfield, if they didn't these may become a hot item to have. Rich
  15. I wonder if they got permission from Springfield to use the XDm trademark? The XD/m trademarks are for North America only, the rest of the world it is the HS 2000. Rich
  16. The grip safety doesn't lock up the slide, it prevents/allows the sear to move or not. If the sear can't drop out of the way the slide can't go back. Grip the gun correctly and you won't have any problems. There was a one armed man who used to rack his slide by just holding onto the slide and with a quick motion rack the slide, toss the gun up and grab the grip. Rich
  17. To keep the gun as thin as it is an internal extractor wouldn't work. Rich
  18. Safariland belt, mag pouches, and holster with a suede liner. The new belt system is the best idea in rigs in a long time, one base belt and the clip on feature that allows any position with different components. Rich
  19. Other ambi-safeties can be fitted to the Caspian frame, I like the SV wide paddle version. Shields can be welded on, I haven't installed a Swenson but I don't see why it wouldn't fit. Rich
  20. The Springfield is the better gun over the spartan or trojan. Rich
  21. One thing you have to remember the number of USPSA shooters who would buy a 6" .40 Para is a very small number. I would say that there would be 3x the number of 10mmm sold as opposed to .40 and probably 10x the number of 45's would be sold. The average Joe gun buyer looks for a .45 before a .40, the 10mm would be more useful to the hunting shooter. Rich
  22. I would look at the Springfield HC forged frame-Limited-Open Springfield XDm 5.25 #3 back strap- Limited-Production. The .45 will have the largest grip size. Caspian HC frame with fat grips formed to his hands- Limited-Open SV metal grip that hasn't been machined for skate tape, with a checkered front strap panel added and a set of custom grips made for it. Limited-Open All would be an option to fill his grip size. Both the Springfield and Caspian can have their trigger guard moved forward and use long trigger inserts. Rich
  23. I have always made custom grip panels for my personal guns and for customer requests. I use extra thick blanks mounted to the frame and sand them down to fit my grip. Rich
  24. A 9mm 5.25 weighs that much, it has to be lighter than that. Rich
  25. Well the first time there was talk of making a .355 diameter cartridge Major was back when the 9x23 and the .356 TSW came in use. Back then if 3 major ammunition manufacturers made ammo to major power factor(175) it could become legal in Limited. Well wisdom won out and .40 was held as the major PF diameter. I can't see it being changed just to get more capacity with thousands of .40 made guns just for Limited. For those who want a 9mm major, have you even shot loads out of a limited gun in major 9/38 super? If it was to pass we would have guys loading 115's(because they are cheaper) with a fast burning powder wondering why they are having primer flow, case failures... Personally I would stick with a 180 grain .40 round, it would be a better feeling and controllable round over any .355 diameter bullet at any weight. Rich Maybe would should pass a stupid rule that there has to be a reload before the last shot taken on each stage.
