well the 2 manuals i have say to roll crimp, and how to line it up, and explain what it is, and why. there is information about not making it to heavy due to pressure issues and more. The question I was putting forth is about the die it self. I have not any experience with that type of crimp. I was trying to gather information from people with experience so i may further educate myself. More information on reloading is better than less.

Iv'e loaded shotgun for years, and 9mm. I want to expand into .38 sp. My question is about the roll crimp. is that something the die does because its for .38sp, or is it a setting i need to learn about? I do understand it needs to be lined up with the cannelure, but i cant seem to find out how it happens in the die.

for target practice in my XDm 3.8 Berry's 9mm (.356) 124gr RN 4.3gr WSF ( I have gone up to 4.7, but my wife didn't like to shoot them as much ) mixed brass fed small pistol primer's OAL 1.161 For me, clean, soft shooter.

what i use for bunny fart practice for my XDm 3.8 9mm.. 124gr .356 berry's RN fed 100 small pistol primers 4.3gr WSF 1.161 OAL fun to shoot, was able to move my wife from her 22 to my 9 with this load, operates the gun well no jam's or any issues to report. just fun shooting, accurate, and clean.. meters well. I haven't had the opportunity to crono it yet . I would think it would work well in the G34 5.31 barrel. that's my WSF story. hope it help's.

I live in Las Vegas, i only know of 1 smith in town, he did a friend OK. I have heard of that trigger assembly being like the 1100's. Depending on cost a professional I can trust would be my choice. That is good advice about learning more about the gun and issue history.

I have 2 guns that have jamming issues, both are relatively old ( a Remington model 58 shotgun with a trigger jamming, and a Remington 760 where the pump action jamms after firing ). I have never went to a gunsmith before so i have no idea how to shop for one. How much they charge, how to spot a quality one, ect. any advice would be great.

Yeah, i like my ducks in a row. I hadn't concidered the bell, all-tho i think its minimal (by eyeball) ill revisit it. just to make sure. thanks for the tip. this has been a very productive thread.

@sroe3 and others thx, I had a reloading session last night, i lubed the cases and it DID make a BIG difference. Numbers went down to +/- 0.002 with the odd one in here and there, and those weren't off enough to ruff my feather's. It was much better results. "i'm giddy as a schoolboy" . thx everyone.

sry took so long to reply. I plan to shoot USPSA or IDPA but i feel i need to pratice up a bit. Im comfortable with long guns, but over this last year started with pistols. My local club here has events i attended a few and it looks to fun. but step at a time. Yeah i'm sure about my label's, my mentor said that it was most likely due to me being a bit nervous at 1st, then when things went well relaxing a bit. so my perceived recoil was different. thx again everyone for your help

Thx, guy's. yeah, i'm loading on a Dillon 550b, this helps allot. I also (just today) measured some factory rounds, and found the same inconstancy that Mpeltier did. Of course id like mine to be better than factory. ill also try to lightly lube them. i haven't been due to the carbide die's. And it is mixed brass, Thanks for the warm fuzzy. When you reload for pistol competition do you generally try to use new same brand brass, and high quality bullets, or do most people use mixed brass and affordable bullets?. I can understand those measures taken for long distance rifle.

Im using the Lee 9mm die set (christmas gift). the constancy of the bullet depth is always off by in the 1000th's for example ill set it to give a 1.161 OAL, and then ill start loading, some will be 1.161 OAL, others will be 1.164 OAL, or maybe a little shorter 1.158 OAL for example. i know it could be the bullets (berry's 124gr .356) . if there longer than the 1.161 OAL im looking for ill usually go back and re run them, and it will be better if not right where i want it. Is this something i should be looking to overcome, or is this normal? At the moment i'm just loading for target work. But eventually id like to load for competition so if its not normal. id like to nip it in the bud sooner than later.

woo hoo After much reading, calling friends, and asking questions at Nevada shooters and here. I completed my first 9mm reloads, and successfully tested them today at CCSR (Cark county public range). All 4 of the loads i tested all went well, gun cycled perfectly, no smoke, no pressure issues, and 2 were very accurate with softer than store bought ammo recoil. It was allot of fun shooting my own loads. I'm now going to make a bunch of the 2 loads i liked best and work them to settle on one for target use. I did have a question concerning recoil. it seemed to me that i felt less recoil on the heaviest load, and the lighter loads seem to feel a little more recoil. I could just have been my perception. here's the load which was in my perception lighter recoil, and ill give an example of what i perceived as more recoil. 9mm berry's 124 .356 4.7 WSF mixed brass federal primers OAL 1.161 I liked this load same bullet 4.5gr WSF same primer same OAL this felt to recoil a bit more. I think it was that i was a bit nervous while testing which is why i perceived different things. It was too fun shooting my own stuff!!! thanks everyone for your help.
