  1. I have a JP LRP-07, came with their low mass carrier. I noticed the hole in the cam pin has the opposite orientation than my AR-15's cam pins. When I assemble the low mass bolt carrier group, I cannot turn the cam pin as you would normally do with my other AR's, otherwise the hole in which the firing pin goes through is oriented the incorrect way and the firing pin cannot be installed. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this standard with JP's low mass carriers or with their side chargers?
  2. I've had 3 rifles cerakoted by Tim from Alternative Coatings, www.acoating.com Very happy with the results. 1 had a custom color, he's very willing to work with you to get you the color you want.
  3. I had a conversion barrel for my G35 before. Had a lot of FTE's. I was told to change out the extractor when shooting 9mm for reliable extraction. Ended up getting a G17 and G34.
  4. When I first started shooting matches, I bought a G35 thinking I can shoot it in USPSA production with a conversion barrel. I was wrong, wasn't allowed to shoot with the conversion barrel. When using the conversion barrel I had a lot of FTE's so I didn't even want to shoot the convesion barrel and ended up selling it. Then I got a G17. Shot it in USPSA production for a few years, IDPDA, and even a few local steel matches. Turned my G35 into a limited gun. Eventually got a G34 and still use it in USPSA production and local steel matches, stopped shooting IDPA. Short answer, recommend a G34. For holster, my preference is Ready Tactical. Mag pouches, CR speed but won't work for IDPA. I used to use cheap kydex mag pouches made by someone from another forum, it was real cheap (2 for $20) back in 2003, still have them. Belt is CR speed but used to use Wilderness Tactical for USPSA and IDPA before I stopped shooting IDPA. Before you pick a holster and mag pouches, you have to ask yourself, are you really going to shoot IDPA? If so, you'll have to pick IDPA compliant holster and mag pouches, and that'll limit your options.
  5. Slip 2000 725 gun cleaner. Water based, non-caustic, biodegradable. Runs $6.99 for 4 oz, $13.29 for 16 oz.

    17 or 19

I take it when you say home defense, you're not going to conceal carry. If that's the case a G17. If you are considering conceal carry at all and if you're only going to get 1 handgun, then a G19. The best answer is to get both. You can always try shooting both and pick the one you like better. Still, get both.
  7. Got the blade tech drop and off set attachments through Dillons. I experimented with dropped and offset Blade Tech AR mag pouches.
  8. +1 on Dillons. Luckily they're local so I can just stop by.

    SR22

I know this is a really old thread but didn't want to add another thread when this thread will suffice. Bought a Ruger SR22 on a whim. Just wanted a 22lr pistol and tired of dealing with the reassembly on my Ruger MkII and how finicky my Glock conversion with types/brands of ammo. What I wanted was a 22lr that was under $400 and would just work with any ammo. Found this for $300. I have to say this works with every type of 22lr I've tried. From CCI standard velocity, Federal Automatch, Federal hallow points, CCI velocitors hallow points. From 600 rounds, only 1 FTF. Even includes an adapter to add a threaded adapter. Disassembly and reassembly is easy, no small parts to lose. I ordered a kydex holster from DeLaRosa tactical, may run this in one of our local steel matches in a fun run. Dislikes. I do have several things I don't like about it. I hate the magazine safety. First gun that I own that has this and hate it. I hate how the safety lever pulls down to safe position and up for fire position, it's so counterintuitive. I was a little worried about how the grip sleeve just slides off but haven't had any issues with it, takes some force to yank the grip sleeve off. And magazine prices, about $28-35. I took advantage of the 20% discount through shopruger.
  10. Have a couple P30's, V1 and V3, HK45 V1, HK45c V1. For carry I recommend the HK45c. Yes the spidey grips on the HK45 is better but I use a Lone Wolf Qwik Grip for more texture. It doesn't hand as much girth as the Hogue grip and doesn't grab on to clothes as much as the Hogue. Other people use the Pachymar and Uncle Mike's slip on grips, I have no experience with them. You can also stipple. I would love to see someone stipple a HK45c grip to make it similar to the spidey grips. I do like the P30 in V1 and V3. If I were to carry one of them it would be the V3. Feel a little safer with the first shot DA and the reset on the V1's are longer. I also have a G19 and M&P Shield that I carry. It depends on what I'm doing and how I'm dressed. I guess the main question is would you carry a 9mm or 45?
  11. Glad you like you P30. I like mine as well but the front sight came flying off during the first time I shot it. Yes it was brand new, V1. Had to send the slide to H&K. I too found it a little snappy but once I became accustomed to the grip and found a way to grip it high enough without messing with that huge slide lever, I'm able to get faster follow-up shots. Granted its not like shooting my G17 and G34 but its on par with my G19. It is more accurate than I expected though. My sights are stock and surprised I can get as good of groups as my G19 with Warren/Sevigny's. I also had problems with the slide not loading the first round correct which cause a failure to feed on the first round only. But after cleaning, it was fine. Nowadays I tend to clean less often, but shoot more often. I am breaking it in with 124gr as recommended by H&K. Not exactly sure why they recommend the 124gr but this time I'll follow directions. With my current problems, it won't be my carry conceal but it's a fun range gun, possibly some IDPA.
  12. I'm one of those people who can't use an extended slide release/lock lever. I change them out to the standard and haven't had any issues in 5 years. But for some reason I don't have the problem of engaging the slide lock on my P30 and that thing is massive.
  13. Mine doesn't always lock back either but I rarely let my mag run dry before changing during a stage.
  14. Where does one get a factory refurbished Glock, especially for $200 less than new?
  15. I use a Crossbreed Supertuck in horsehide natural, in 3:30-4:00 position. Conceals well. Remember 10% off for NRA members.
  16. I think you might want to change the extractor also. I had a conversion 9mm barrel for my G35 and had some occasional issues with FTE's. I sold the conversion barrel awhile ago, tired of the FTE's and eventually got a G17, G34, G19. I once thought I can have 1 Glock for all uses, silly me.

    love this g19

You won't stop at 1 Glock. Started shooting a G35 in Limited, then a G17 in Production, moved to a G34 for Production. Now bought a G19 for daily carry and shoot it almost as well as my G17. I shoot the G17 the best but the G19 is impressive in a small package. I used to wonder why the G19 was so popular, now I know why. I placed an Inforce APL light and ordered a holster for it. It's now my nightstand and carry gun. All Gen 3's, have spare parts for Gen 3's, and the grip fits me.
  18. Probably not the answer you're looking for but I would get a new mag.
  19. If I was starting out right now, I'd probably go with the Safariland ELS system (belt, pouches, holster, etc.) but since you said for cash strapped college students, I didn't mention it. If you guys meet up to dry fire, I think you can still share and be competitive. Always best to have your own so you can figure out what's best for you but I remember the days of being a broke college student.
  20. What do you guys already have and how many shooters are you trying to accomodate? Does everyone have their own pistol? Rifle? Shotgun? Rifle and shotgun can easily be shared. Pistol might be more of a personal preference. I've watched a few groups share equipment before and here's my personal opinion. The way I see it is you have 2 options for sharing gear. 1. Easiest is if everyone shares same pistol so you can just share the entire outer belt set-up. This way you can have the belt set-up for the stage and don't worry about changing mag pouches, shell carriers between shooters. 2. If everyone wants to use a different pistol, you can either share belts and change out the holster or switch pouches as necessary. Pistol holster: one of the more popular is the Blade-Tech DOH, about $70 new. There's a Ready Tac for 3 gun $75, but the Blade-Tech you can have with the Tek-Lok for easier off/on. Safariland ALS if you want more retention. You can go with a used quality kydex, lots of manufacturers. Just make sure it'll retain. Personally use a Read Tac DOH, started with a cheapo Blade-Tech injection molded (don't recommend). Pistol mag pouches: wouldn't spend too much money on this. Get single pistol mag pouches, kydex, doesn't have to be a race mag pouch like a Double Alpha. Prefer the singles than doubles for more options in belt set-up. I still use the sigle mag pouches I had made from a guy from GlockTalk, used them for 5+ years. Rifle mag pouch: Ready Tac AR15 mag pouches $28 or the Blade Tech with Tek-Lok $38. Depends if you're going to be swapping the pouches a lot or the whole belt. Only probably need 1, 2 at most, you can use a mag coupler, Brownells $25 or Pmag mag-link coupler $17. I use the Blade-Tech injection molded for $17, can't get them for that price anymore, placed them on a DOH Tek-Lok. AR mags: I have Pmags, lots, a couple in a mag-link, Brownell mags in a coupler, some C-products steel 20rd, and C-products steel 40rd (good value at $17) Sling: I'd go 2 point, all really personal preferance. A lot of times a sling isn't required, wouldn't be a priority for me, use the 2 point you already have. The two I've seen the most are the VTAC padded $40 and Blue Force Gear VCAS padded $55, not padded $45. I use a VTAC padded myself if a sling is required. Shell carriers: this will probably be one of the larger expenses. Depends if everyone who shares agrees to use the same method of shotgun loading (strong hand load 2 vs weak hand carriers). Shotgun loading will probably determine your belt set-up, I'd think about this more. What I would recommend is to come up with a list of what you need and make a WTB post in the Classifieds. You can find good gear, cheaper than buying new. You should also do what poortrader said and see if your local gunstores or sporting good store to sponsor your team. Lots of information on this forum, I'd spend some time reading what others use. Instead of waiting till you gather everything, I'd start shooting and figure out what works for you guys. Remember ammo is the biggest expense. And make sure your team is good about reloading mags and shell carriers for the shooter on deck and in the hole. Don't want to keep other squads waiting.
  21. Another vote for the Burris MTAC. You can use Midway's $30 off $300 code 3091277 good until 9/23/12.
  22. I use Testors model paint. There's several youtube vids that show you how.
  23. There's better options than the Fobus and Uncle Mike's you inquired about. Blade-tech, Ready Tactical, Safariland are popular. Start out by reading some of the previous threads on this forum. There's 128 threads if you type in "holster" under the Multi-gun Gear & Accessories forum.
