  1. Forecast is for a high of 67 and sunny. Sounds like kilt weather!
  2. For me, one of the best parts of designing a stage is seeing how different shooters try to game it. We have a couple of regular shooters who live to game stages, and I always look forward to seeing whether they find new ways to shoot my stages. BB
  3. In addition to legal requirements, you might want to give them a day or two before shipping anything to the East Coast. Even if your smith isn't in an area getting hit by Sandy, the shippers are al going to be running behind, and there's a better chance for packages to get delayed or lost during a big storm. BB
  4. Translation for newbies: Same old, same old at Apple!
  5. It's worth noting that not only is protesting and requesting the RM proper, but you aren't going to hurt anyone's feelings by doing so. We're all competitors, and no RO/CRO worth his salt is going to take offense at someone making a legitimate attempt to improve his score. If that sort of thing bothered you, you wouldn't volunteer to stand around for 2-3 days scoring targets and running shooters!
  6. They have to balance. That said, if you're not getting 90% of your points, you should slow down and focus on your accuracy more. Speed will come, but it will primarily come from all the things you do besides shooting - stage breakdown, movement, getting in and out of position, etc. Shooting minor also forces you to put more emphasis on accuracy. Cs and Ds are going to hurt you a lot more than the major shooters. There's a reason most people opt for major. BB
  7. No dammit I'm getting out the sawzall!! Wimps. Real men use their 1911s to take out .45 diameter chunks one at a time!
  8. Mine does that once or twice every 100. If it gets to be more than 3/100, I do a religious cleaning, and make sure the guide wire that drops the finished round is fully seated, and things get better, but I figure I just have to pay a tribute to the brass gods on 1 to 2% of my brass because I can't make it run 100%. Well worth it for a machine that can knock out 700-800 rounds in an hour, though. BB
  9. Thanks! On stage 4, are we shooting through a screen or bars of some sort? BB
  10. Yup I was gonna push for a nationals in Tulsa...Utah might as well be vegas. Tulsa would be a half day's drive for me, but I might be up for a trip to Utah for the scenery alone! BB
  11. When do we get to see them? All 6 round arrays with open targets at 7 yards, right? BB
  12. I just won an XS certificate I'd sell. PM me if interested.
  13. Always nice to see our sport get positive attention. http://www.dailystatesman.com/story/1904652.html
  14. I have Windows PCs, iPhones, and an Android Tablet. That's one too many operating systems. This winter, I'll change the tablet to an iPad or one of the business Windows tabs coming in Dec or Jan.
  15. It occurs to me that I've started a few matches squadded with strangers, but I usually end matches squadded with friends. BB
  16. As long as there is an unlock code, the system would work.
  17. I understand how a DQ works. I'm just a happier RO if I can actually see clear. I never saw a match improved by a DQ. BB
  18. That sounds good in theory, but in practice, mistakes are sometimes only discovered after the point one would have printed a confirmation. BB
  19. I've only been an RO for a few years, but when I started, I used to have to remind shooters to actually show clear, instead of treating ULSC as a speed event. But at the last few big matches I've worked, I've noticed that well over 1/2 the shooters I run not only take the time to show clear, but actually stick an open slide towards me to be SURE I've seen clear. In my opinion, this is a good thing. So, the question is, did a memo go out telling people to do this for safety reasons, or because the CRO from MO is blind as a bat? BB
  20. I try to do a more strenuous version of the actual chrono procedure. Once I have a load I know is in the ballpark: Step 1: Run 20 rounds over the chrono. Make sure average, "olympic average", and standard deviation are in the range you want (shoot for a little higher rather than lower) Step 2: Average the fastest three of the slowest 7 rounds. If my overall average and standard deviation are in the right ball park, and the fastest three of the slowest 7 make power factor, I figure I'm good to go. Then I repeat with another 20 rounds, preferably on a day with different weather conditions. The end result is that even on a slow chrono, I'm confident that I'm making PF with room to spare, and I've run a minimum of 40 rounds over the chrono (usually 60-80) by the time I've used the load for a while. The chrono is the one stage where I'm confident of making a 100% score every time!
