  1. SSG wouldn't be the same without you. Besides, you're due to sit in the winner's circle this year or next.
  2. Does sketchup not work on an iPad? The iPhone is just too small a screen to do real stage design work.
  3. Far and away the simplest solution is to simply go ahead and ULSC between the stages. In my experience, the difference between "ULSC, walk over here, LAMR" vs "reload if necessary, walk over here, get into position. Are you ready?" is pretty minimal and avoids exactly the sort of situation you describe. The alternative is to either do what the CRO did in your example, which leaves a bad taste in many people's mouths, or to simply work according to the "intent" or "spirit" of the rules, which also has potential for problems.
  4. Those are great guns in an emergency.
  5. I realize the proper place to direct this is an email to my AD or to the folks running the SSC, but would it not make sense to allow the SS and Revolver Nats to run simultaneously? I.e., a shooter could run the match Friday in one division and Saturday in another division. This would allow those who have slots and limited travel time to still run their primary division on Saturday, and would allow those with lots of travel time to shoot wed/thurs or thurs/fri.
  6. 42.8 doesn't leave much room for powder residue, grease, lead, mud, dust, or other gunk that can accumulate in a gun. I've weighed my gun before and after cleaning and found as much as a 1 ounce difference on the same scale (granted, that was after 8000+ rounds without a cleaning, but still...). Wouldn't you hate to go open because you didn't get to clean your gun before the big match and the combination of your powder, bullet, and humidity managed to add a quarter ounce of weight to your gun? My SS guns weigh in at 41.9 and 39.5, my load chronos between 173 and 178. I never lose sleep over the chrono stage. BB
  7. The OP said the A zone was available further downrange. 4.2.5 only specifies the highest scoring area has to be available, it doesn't have to be available from the most convenient point. Sounds like this could have been avoided had the barrels been properly taped, and shooters reminded that barrels were hard cover. I have a couple of shooters who would game a 100 yard dash, so I've gotten in the habit of specifying hard cover barrels in the walk through any time this sort of situation presents itself. BB
  8. I love Anne Hathaway. She made a fine catwoman!
  9. OK. I've sent in my entry and I now own a kilt. I'm in!
  10. Just put my app in the mail, which means all the real revolver shooters can count on beating one more guy!
  11. Finally! Got the Nook rooted and Practiscore installed. That was a major chore for someone who's not an android user, and I'm not thrilled about having to install software on my laptop to do it. We'll see how stable it is over time and just how much better the screen is in direct sun before we commit to doing another one. If I had an android phone and was a tablet user, I could see this being pretty attractive, and it's hard to argue with the price tag. But it is a chore for someone whose only exposure to Android is to set up a Nook for Practiscore. Thanks to Mark for laying out "Practiscore Installation for Dummies"! BB
  12. Melissa - Our rules are designed to keep us a couple of steps removed from anything bad happening. It's not that your actions directly caused something bad to happen, but they certainly set the stage for something bad to happen. If the two of us were shooting at the practice range and I knew you, it wouldn't bother me a bit to see you loading mags at a table next to your loose or unbelted gun. But at a match, there's a whole different standard for safety, both the the odds and the consequences are higher that something could go wrong, and not everybody knows everybody else. I think a lot of people would have cried foul. BB
  13. I can't get past this step. I keep getting a message telling me there isn't enough room on the SD card, despite the fact that it's a 4GB card. Any suggestions? I'm rooting a nook for one of our ROs, and I have to say that as much as I like the look of the Nook in bright sunlight, the installation process is looking like a major incentive to keep using the iPhone/iPad/iPod and just turn my back to the sun. Does anyone sell a rooted Nook? BB Barry...I have a built in SD card reader/writer on my Dell XPS laptop and the built-in one would not work...got all kind of error messages (sorry can't remember what they were). I went to Best Buy and purchased an external reader/writer and a fast class 10 (6 will work also) SD card and all worked as designed. Did you use a built-in SD reader or do you have an external? Mark R I've been trying to use the built in reader on my Lenovo laptop. What kind of external reader/writer did you buy? BB

  15. You got all the style points, but I can't imagine you were any faster than coming in and tagging that target on a more controlled lean/fall/step. Also a lot less chance of something going wrong when there's one foot on the ground. But you looked damned good.
  16. Let us know how that works out in actual competition.
  17. It looked like the first time I had sex - it only lasted a minute and a half, but it was the best minute and a half ever!
  18. Get a couple of each and see which ones YOUR gun likes. Also consider which magwell you want to use. If you're using a Dawson Ice or Techwell XD, there are several extended basepads available for the 47D, but I'm only aware of one extended basepad for the ETM. That said, the ETMs are a little easier to load into a closed gun when fully loaded.
  19. SS is all about tradition, and it works as is. If you really want a faster holster, we have lim 10. No need to fix what works great. FWIW, I'm pretty sure we don't use DOH in SS for the same reasons we don't use 6" guns or appendix carry in SS. I don't see a problem. BB
  20. Crux of the matter: All 1911s are not created equal. Some guns are picky about mags. Some guns are picky about mag wells. FWIW, I have one gun that absolutely refuses to go to slide lock with a Wilson 47D. Runs fine with every other mag (Tripp, ETM, CMC). The 47Ds run fine in my other guns. You just need to see what works in your primary gun and load up on those mags. BB
