  1. I have a different issue; neuropathy of the hands. I tend to hang onto the cylinder too long when I do strong hand and get blisters all over the weak hand. That's also why I changed my competition load to Clays instead of Titegroup; LOTS cooler. I've found that the cheap synthetic golf gloves (leather is too slick for my likes) on both hands work well and now I do all the heavy lifting with the weak hand. At 68 I ain't very fast at anything anymore but I don't blister my hands and can still beat the occasional 12 year old phenom and most of the certified criminally insane. 2. I have neuropathy of the hands and far and away prefer the 4" barrel. Puts the weight in the palm instead of fingers/ heel of the hand supporting the barrel weight. Also feel the 4" transions faster. Just my .0125 cents after taxes. buckaroo45
  3. I'm prolly different than most open shooters. 68, eyes ain't what they used to be, neuropathy of the hands and short attention span. I went into Open about 6 months ago and got an education. I picked up a Tanfoglio Gold Custom Eric 2007 in 38 super and put a 6 moa C-More on it. Gun runs fine but my hands don't do well with it. Picked up a last iteration (not DVC) STI in 38 super w/ an 8 moa C-More and Bedel comp. Hands liked it better but still not really comfortable. Had a knee problem that took me off line for a couple months. Between superior pharmacuticals and time on my computer I converted my XDm 40 Limited rig to a Bobby Carver mount and an AimPoint 2-8 MOA dot w/ 11 stops for brightness. My hands and eyes run it better than ANY other gun I have. Go figure. Evidently I can go uptown but still not like the shows. 1 rig may not be what pulls your twine. Try a couple different platforms before giving up on the division. One size does NOT fit all. Ron Ex Naval Aviator NRA Life, Yadda-Yadda
  4. I'm sure somebody out there knows this but doesn't loading ammunition for profit require some variety of FFL license and come with liability issues. Don't want my retirement to be a beat down rented trailer next to a garbage dump so I don't reload for others. Yes, I know you wouldn't sue me but any lawyer would take a run at it. Safer to just say no.
  5. FWIW, After a discussion w/ S&W Cust Svc I sent a 627 Pro back to them in 2010 because it had a SERIOUS flame cutting issue on the top strap and threw lead shavings at anybody to my right rear. A single box of Remington 158 gr lead 38 Specials put a slice in the top strap a measured .060 / .070 deep! Didn't have the nerve to run 357's thru it. Received a new gun in less than 2 weeks w/ a different serial # shipped straight to my house. No additional 4473. Mebbe you'll need one because you went thru your gunsmith. Replacement has run something north of 5K rounds just fine without all the drama. Ron Ex Naval Aviator NRA Life Yadda-Yadda
  6. My Carver works perfectly on my Open XDM with Bobby's Hunter mount. Donno about CR Speed.
  7. It does look like a roll pin. It's just that the Arrendondo cap is easier for old eyes and hands to work with. The hammer just went back into hiding with the Dremel. Thx sarge ..... One less thing beat into submission.
  8. Got a Serendipity w/ click switch I'd like to put an Arrendondo cap on. Smallest allen I have is .050 and it's too big. Hole goes all the way thru the c more cap and I suspect it's a roll pin but thot I'd ask before applying hammer. Thx
  9. In my 625 I run 230 Berry's and 4.2 gr Clays. I have yet to need to brush anything off or out during a match. Just a little smoke stain on places you'd expect. Clays is A # 1.
  10. 68, got prescription glasses instead of $10 readers. Took slide off my Single Stack with me for testing. Better by a lot but still prefer red dot.
  11. Long as there's a place to shoot'm I'll keep dragging my N frames out to go play; 2 - 625's, 1 - 627 and 1 - 610. Two supposedly with Randy Lee triggers. They are just a joy for an old man like me to run. Beating bottom feeders is a joy unto itself.
  12. I'd just order all the individual parts that can / could / do have some interaction with the problem and just replace all of them. What're we talking here? $20-$30? Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a mismarked part. If you still have the issue it can't be what you just replaced. Look elsewhere.
  13. My standard 45 ACP load is any steel pin cleaned case, well seated Federal match primers, 230 gr Berry's bullet seated to 1.250 over 4.1 gr of Clays. Same load chrono graphed at 172PF from my 4" barreled S&W 625 at the 2010 USPSA Florida State Championship. Never clocked it from my 1911(s). I can run the entire match without ever touching a cleaning brush.
  14. My hands got to the point where feeding my SDB was not productive. I popped for the 550B w/ Dillon case feeder and Mini Mr Bullet Feeder. While somewhat pricey, my productivity has easily doubled and consistency of my ammo is simply no longer an issue. The quantity could be more but I'm a fussy somebody and demand to see powder in each case. I can say it does everything I could have wanted it to do. 5K in and nothing of any consequence has shown itself. 15. FWIW I just picked up a 4" 610-3 with mooner tool, moon clips, Blade Tek holster, 3 single post North Mountain "ammo pouch". "Might" be an Apex trigger but no papers or proof. Paid $650 We as revolver shooters should be keeping track of these trigger job collectors items. Get provenance whenever possible.
  16. WAAAAY over the top but if it works ........... inquiring minds want to know ...... does it? Still, it'd be a shame to do this to any gun much less a stainless 'Smith. Ranks up there with the current trend to "rat rod" cars. On the plus side, who'd steal it?
  17. The 550B and case feeder came from Dillon. The bullet feeder is a "Mini Mr Bullet Feeder" intended for the 550. Like anything it takes a bit of adjustment for the specific bullet but it stays rock solid once set. Like you'd expect it likes a bit more bell to get the bullet to sit correctly going to the seat / crimp station. I'd like it better if it was more sturdy construction, say aluminum instead of some injection molded resin. That aside, it hasn't been a problem and I really don't expect it to be a future problem. Time will tell. All I can say is the setup is working exactly as I planned and I'm one happy camper even including the second pass thru the Lee Factory Crimp die. Further thoughts on the 550B ... I prefer the powder measure clanking because I believe it keeps the powder tower agitated for a more consistent drop. Lastly I had the bugaboo of powder flying out of the case because of the hard start / stop of the shell plate. I got the "Premium Shell Plate Bearing Kit" from Hit Factor Shooting Supply and it does an excellent job of stopping that issue. I managed to bust off one of the sprocket arms. I dropped them an e-mail for a replacement and got a response from Dave, the owner. He considered it under a warranty despite my claim I caused it. I wound up ordering an index sprocket and Dave added another on his dime. He's a working LEO and does this for extra income. He's top shelf in my book. BTW, I have zero connection to Hit Factor other than as a customer. I just think good products and business should get some attention whenever possible. 18. Ya gotta take into account the substantial weight of 6 45 rounds w/ 230 gr bullets going in a circle with a yahoo yanking the trigger for short split times. That's a lotta weight to stop for a relatively small part. I expect ongoing maintenance on my race car and no different on my race guns. Just part of the fun of revos and big block Chebby's.
  19. I'm not smart enough to know why but my Lee seat / crimp die won't pass my chamber check for the 45 ACP rounds. I use it for seat crimp but I have to re run every round thru a Lee factory crimp die and I can't run it as the last station because it won't seat the bullet to the correct depth. Maybe somebody here can tell me why that is. Maybe this needs to be moved to another thread. Up to the mods. Sorry if I hi jacked the thread. Ron NRA Life
  20. I run a 550B w/ case and bullet feeder due to my hands. Best $1300+ (incl setups for 9mm, 38, 40 and 45) I've spent in a LONG time.
  21. Bought a 627 Pro about 6 years ago. Flame cutting on the top strap was SEVERE after only 100 rounds of Remington 158 gr lead rounds. Argued a bit w/ customer service and wound up sending it back. 2 weeks later a NEW 627 showed up w/ a non committal letter saying they opted to replace thanks and goodbye. Prolly 5K rounds thru it and just had the hand replaced by my local 'smith due to cylinder occasionally dragging just short of good lockup. Good to go now. Can't say I have anything bad to say about S&W except maybe their production line QC is in freefall. When all the old guys retire or get run off all you have left is trainees with no work ethic.
  22. Had mine fitted by a gunsmith. No problems after some 4K rounds. It was worth it to me to get it done right. Ron Certified American Voter and Gun Toter Naval Aviator - N Viet Nam NRA Life Yadda-Yadda
  23. Check the linkage that runs the charge bar back and forth. I've had the small, white plastic "block" jump off the slot on the charge bar. Also a broken spring on the return. I matched my machine with the exploded drawing in the manual. It helped. Also could be some powder or foreign material jamming the charge bar. Keep us posted. buckaroo45 Certified American Voter and Gun Toter Naval Aviator - North Viet Nam NRA Life Yadda-Yadda
