  1. I don't deny It was fun. Gets to you when you drop 2-3 speed loaders a stage. Even ran a Limited Para 16-40 for a while and managed to drop 4 mags on 1 stage. Just got to be time to do something else so I retired and joined a shotgun club for old guys. I've found the people in shooting sports are some of the nicest you'll ever meet and the older we get the easier we are to get along with. Seems the ego and competitive nature of some people softens with age.
  2. Figgers! Stay out of a game too long, stop paying attention and the game will change. Agent Orange taking my hands out of play and liking the big hole lotta noise kind of shooting took all the fun out for me so I dropped out before the 9's took over. Never knew the 627 / 929 were N frame. Thanks. That's what I was trying to understand.
  3. I made it to 70 and B class with an N frame 625 Smith' 45 ACP before Agent Orange took my hands out of play and the "little" guns were allowed. Those 2 took all the fun out for me. I now do shotgun sports; only 2 shots in a row, bigger ammo for clumsy hands and no pressure for speed reloads but I'm still shooting at 74. Molon Labe'
  4. Oooops! Too late for the shotgun sports too. Biggest issue for us is still primers. My old guy sporting clays, trap, etc shotgun clubber buddies (me too) used to go thru 200-250 rounds a week on a light week. Not no more! Even the cheapest "target" loads have doubled in price to $90+ a case of 10 boxes. I shoot mostly 28 gauge to save on components but still need primers for every shot. BUMMER!
  5. I understand the factor of higher round count per (re) load. My question is why the oversize N frame? 9MM recoil in a K frame ain't all that scary. Is that all he has or can get? Not a challenge, just curious why the overkill.
  6. Being the proud owner of a competition grade 45 ACP 625 I'm curious why you'd want an N frame 9MM. I'd think a K or L frame would be better suited or even the new Ruger GP. Or have I misunderstood what you're trying to do?
  7. Grit your teeth. The prices are absurd!
  8. Ahoy Bird,

Are you the friend to Kevin that I sold my Para 16-40 to? I need him to contact me as I found some support stuff for the Para I'd like to give him. I cleaned out my delete folder a while back and that information is now living in the ether belt. Thanks in advance.

Hey there, sorry man I haven't been on the forum in a while but yes, same guy.

      Ahoy Bird,

Haven't been here myself for a long time. Ran into a buzz saw of medical issues that I won't bore you with. Anyway, I found a few small original parts for the Para I have no need for; best of which is a pair of replacement springs for the Aftec extractor. Send me a mailing address to 45ron40@gmail.com and I'll be happy to send them along.

I trust the Para is providing you as much enjoyment as it did for me. I was knocking on the A class door before I got seduced by revolvers.  Still have the 625 Performance Center that took me into A class. Had Randy at Apex do his competition trigger / hammer job ( 5 lb DA pull) and several other upgrades. Top of the revo food chain before they allowed the "little" guns. Also still have about 1200 loaded rounds w/ pre flattened Federal primers to get 100% ignition. Ah, the good old days. Hero to zero in one stroke of the pen.  If you know of somebody interested in an IDPA tool, let me know.

      Thx,

  9. WOW! My fat fingers screwed that up. To continue, I added a Lee factory crimp die to the sequence and had no further troubles. Had to run them thru a single stage press. Kind of a pain but stopped the problem cold. Good luck. Have you encountered cylinder skip yet? I learned a whole chapter on that problem.
  10. I'm a bit late to this party but may have some insight. Myn 625 had one cylinder charge hole just a hair underesize. Ran a chamber reamer (rented from a place in Idaho I think) thru all 6 and added a Lee factory cerimp die to the load se
  11. I tumble clean first, then spray some one shot on a terry towel, dump on the brass, close up both ends with my hands and do a "shoeshine" rocking motion for a few minutes. Run them thru my Dillon 550B w/ case and bullet feeders and done. Never found a need to clean AFTER loading but it's easy enough to do the same shoeshine trick with a clean terry towel. Just depends on how anal you are.
  12. Ahoy Nik,

I'm trying to find a mod that can take down ALL my for sale items. Many have been sold. I also need to reprice several items so I'd like to start w/ a blank page.

    Thx,

    Ron Moore

This would be better suited to a pm. Please pm me with the details of which ads you would like removed/locked, if they haven't been removed/locked of yet.

For future info, no classifieds ads get deleted, they get locked. When your item has sold, please just post in the thread that the item is sold and to please lock the thread.

  13. How do I delete items in the classified section that have been sold?

You don't. Simply ask a mod to close them. Please do not edit the topic title or thread to remove the item in question.

  14. I just used skate board tape cut to size and burnished the whole surface with an old 9/16 socket on an extension for leverage to knock off the high stuff. Worked perfectly and no longer tore up my hands.
  15. I had a bullet set back issue with my 625 revo and 230 gr FMJ bullets. Got a Lee Factory Crimp die and no longer had the problem. Couldn't say about resizing cast bullets or other crimp dies.
  16. Spinning the cylinder on a 625 and subsequent skips will break you of that habit quickly. Precision equipment deserves to be treated accordingly. Spinning the cylinder on a revolver is for trainees and displays ignorance. Fortunately it's curable. I don't care how much you've done it.That doesn't make it right.
  17. I shot a Para 16-40 Limited in competition for several years before blowing out the original extractor. Had Derek at Palm Beach Shooting Center install and tune an Aftec some 5K+ back and have had zero issues. Excellent investment in my opinion.
  18. Yup! Seen that too. But if you lose a shoe it'd be an opportunity to get tangled up and go down. Worst case, of course, but I wouldn't want to be in the vicinity of a guy running and going down with a loaded gun. That was years ago and looking back it may have been a local rule but I appreciated the Match Director thinking worst case scenario. I put it in the same category as requiring a belt to go thru 3 loops. Pants down, lose a shoe, the list of bad stuff happening can be long. I'm sure we all try not to make the evening news.
  19. Only Crocs I remember seeing had an open back which were not allowed on my clubs' range. Too easy to come off and present a problem.
  20. In slow fire range practice I can feel a difference in the recoil impulse; i.e. push, snappy etc. However, during competition I'm not aware of the recoil except as it relates to subsequent shots. Muzzle flip as opposed to shooting "flatter". Competition is one of the few situations where I focus on outcome instead of process; just less stuff to clog my thought process. Range time / practice polishes procedure. Secondary factors such as shooting cleaner is a bonus. I mostly shoot 45 revo now because I'm old and slow and am dedicated to Clays and 230 gr FMJ.
  21. I went down this road about 15 years ago with my 625 PC. About everything above is valid and useful. I've bought and sold about a dozen different S&W revos including several with a Carmonized trigger including a 40 cal 610. I've done all the above and the only one I've kept is the 625 with a 5# Apex Competition trigger. In my opinion the pro trigger is the best upgrade I made to it. A world class trigger is the difference between OK and O MY! The down side is my 6 shooter isn't competitive anymore, too many standing reloads, etc. Then again, neither am I. One observation I can give is that most revo types seem to prefer the 5" or more version. I found that barrel length to be slow to transition for me so I settled on the 4". Just something to think about. Pics of my 625 attached. BTW, I cut off the left side the Hogue grip to give my thumb a resting ledge ala 1911 safety. I heartily recommend it.
  22. I have neuropathy of the feet and have difficulty maintaining a stable base so cross trainers and the like are not useful to me. I've found ankle hi hiking boots with serious tread are my preferred foot wear. Then again I'm 72 and generally unstable to begin with. Your needs will be different from near everyone else otherwise there wouldn't be a blue million athletic shoes on the market. Good arch support and stable when rounding a corner are 2 requirements that come to mind. They shouldn't roll to the off side when putting pressure on them. I don't think there's a single answer to your question tho you can bet everybody likes what they bought. Good luck looking.
  23. I've carried and used revolvers most of my 72 years. I've owned and shot about everything in USPSA except the carry concealed. Mostly a C shooter because I'd bring a different toy to every match but my N frame 625 with an Apex trigger and customized Hogue Big Butt made me a B and always put a smile on my face every time I strapped it on. That plus I enjoyed outgunning the kids with the plastic guns. Not all of them, mind you, but I pissed off enough of them to make it fun .
  24. I actually do have a laser on my carry gun, a Colt Light Weight Officers' 45. I have no intention of trying to flash it in an eye to try to defer mayhem. The question was whether there are any Implications to possibly blinding an assailant without taking the shot. B585 answered my question. Basically it ain't bright enough to do any damage in a very short application to an eyeball. And I agree, ain't nobody able to hold that sight picture anyway. Thanks to all who took the time to answer. NRA Life & Benefactor
  25. I was asked an interesting question by a non shooting friend concerning the use of laser / red dot type sights. There are warning labels stating to not look directly into the laser or eye damage may be the result. If you are in a confrontation would it be considered ethical to direct the laser into the eyes of the assailant to temporarily blind them prior to possibly being forced to take the shot? Are you then in legal trouble if you blind them and NOT have to shoot? I didn't have an answer for them. Any comments?
