  1. Not busting on you at all but how the hell do they get away with being non profit?
  2. Shot a match last week in 7 degree weather. One stage required you to transfer to weak hand to finish the course of fire. I felt it was to cold to ask both experianced and new shooters to do that. Thoughts?
  3. Thanks, Problem is I have done all that but have had no response with two emails sent over the last two weeks. With no parts available I don't want to send a very good barrel to a place that does not confirm my order. I have contacted another person to do the work. Thanks again
  4. Has anybody had work done by Adco recently? I want to have barrel work done but cannot get a response with email or phone calls. I don't want to send my barrel with out a response.
  5. Todd, a guy in my squad at the Topton Rifle Championship last September had a nice steel or aluminum magwell that slid on or clamped on & would accept the SureFire mags. Forgot to get the name of the manufacturer, but if you want one I could ask around. His name is Gerry 607-753-3905 CNC made, perfect.
  6. Get your timer out. Set up an array of targets you would point shoot. Make at least three runs to get an average of time and points. Do the same thing using just the front sight to center your hits. The great majority of shooters will find that using the front sight will give better hits and the same time as point shooting. Do this a few times on different days to convince yourself of what is best for you. Speaking for myself, some days I get great hits point shooting. The next day I can't hit anything but every time I use the front sight, hits are better with the same time.
  7. If the scope is being mounted on a AR it will usually be mounted forward of the charging handle. This will leave the top of the receiver exposed behind the eye piece. Take a straight edge "a 12" wooden ruler will work". Place it on the flat part of the receiver behind the scope eye piece. Look through the scope. Turn the scope so the horizontal reticle lines up with the straight edge of the ruler. Done. Even with scopes with circles there is usually marks to line up with this method. .
  8. It is not necessarily the power of your scope but how clear it is. If for example you choose to get a Vortex 1x6, you will have very clear glass and the extra power. It will make those grey plates stand out and at least allow you to see them a lot better.
  9. Will the bi-pod have to stay on the gun at all times? Are you going to do the 2gun events at Topton in 2013?
  10. How about barrel length. 20 for irons but what for a scoped gun?
  11. What parts will do the trick and not break my bank? I hear a lot about mag"s being the problem as far as dependability. I know all about JP's stuff but cannot afford it. Thanks
  12. Are alternates allowed this year? What happens if one team member cannot make it on match day?
  13. God bless you for that Dean! If I am ever lucky enough to win a side match for the Warriors, I will proudly give the money back to them!! Nuff said I guess.
  14. No, the shame for the Spikes team showed up at the Topton 3man 3gun team match when you kept the money you won for the Wounded Warrior side match. The purpose of the side match was to raise money for the Warriors not to pad your pockets! Mr. Zaiss, You have repeatedly made slanderous statements regarding the Spikes Tactical Shooting Team both to me and our sponsor. Your accusations are completely untrue and baseless. The side match was clearly advertised that half of the money would go to the Wounded Warrior Project and the winners would keep the rest. We shot a good stage and won the money. Around $500 went to Wounded Warrior and we kept $400 which lined the pockets of the rental car company. Please refrain from defaming my character by publishing this libel. Regards, Ben Powell -Spikes Tactical Shooting Team Sorry but I feel the Wounded Warriors needed the money more than car rental fees which I am sure you included in your travel expenses. Even though the "rules" said you could keep the money, it would have a nice thing to give the money back to people who need it more than you do. It is because of them that you are allowed to shoot a side match at a 3gun event. The buzz after the awards were surprise you did not give the money back. Baseless! You admitted in your above statement that you kept the money!

  16. I take criticism and apply it accordingly if presented in the correct manner. I will take it from your comments that you got DQ'd in the match. You stated that you have never been DQ'd before. I have a news flash....there are two types of people that shoot this sport, those that have been DQ'd and those that will be DQ'd. Another note if you want to provide constructive criticism, send me a PM. Don't look for an audience in the open forum. Larry Larry, If you want criticism, here it comes!!! Been doing 3gun for a very long time. I have been to most of the big matches. Most of them have in one way or another been a "cluster F". Way behind schedule, shooting in the dark, impossible stages that even the big boys have trouble with, ridiculous shooting positions, running between shooting positions that require track shoes, food schedule screwed up,scores days later, prize table order messed up and on and on. That's all I can remember at the moment. Your match had none of these problems. PERIOD! Hope you don't mind the criticism. These are my feelings after shooting the worst match of my life! Really.
  17. I have been to a lot of matches. This was by far the best one!! Thanks to all that made it happen!!
  18. Good news for you.....no barricades! Will most of the stages be in the big pits?
  19. / I too would like to hear this. Squad 5 was told we could NOT touch the ground with after we fired our first slug shot. One MAJOR problem with stage 7 was that although the platform was included in the stage diagram, the rules specific to the platform were not mentioned in the written stage briefing. When I hear things like 'legal way to shoot it and minimize the swing' that make the shots basically the same difficulty as off-hand shots, my first thought is what was another squad allowed to do that we were not. Concise and consistent stage descriptions are crucial, especially on a stage like 7. Except for 7, the stages were fun, and the prize table was good. I'll be back next year. Thanks to the RO's and match staff for the hard work. When I shot it I did not touch the ground between shots or the Frame and chains. I sat in the middle left of the platform evenly distributing my weight on the chains and placing my shotgun near center. I sat on my knees and raised as high as I could under the frame. Have you ever tried to push a swing from the top? After it settled down from getting on it never moved again. Therefore all I had to do was shoot a 10" target at 55 yards. I took 10 shots but hit them all. When I say more mental han gamey I meant that simple physics in the understanding of how the swing works. I'm not trying to say anyone is ignorant. Just telling you my thought process. Say's the guy who hit the 400+yard target FIRST shot with an RO's G17? , and the flashers across the lake with a pistol as well. Kirk , THANKS for a GREAT match, it's ALWAYS a pleasure working with you! You don't suppose knowing he had to do that in the match he practiced that do you? I don't shoot my own match for score or prize table. So no I didn't practice it. Then it was a great shot!

  21. Even the scores are a challenge to read unless you lay on your side to read them.
  22. Did you forget about the $250 you paid for a good time? Whether it's a $25.00 match or $250.00 or an RO it's STILL the same , EVERYBODY shoots the same stages. ? ? Just like I tell the complainers that race at my track , "The guy that beat you , rode the same track you did , if you want to beat him , maybe you should practice more " This is not directed at ANYBODY , just a general "I don't understand why " ? My scores SUCKED , BTW , mag problems with pistol and rifle that never happened before Because a $250 buy in major match shouldn't have a pure dumb luck make it or break it stage. The guys that smoked it had a great run sure, but I bet none of them could repeat the performance with 10 trys.... When things like the overall winner and division winners are decided on a stage like that, you know it is a problem from a stage designers perspective. Let me put it this way, in my humble opinion, if 70+% of the shooters in the match can't clean an array in a reasonable time every time they shoot it then it doesn't belong in a major match. Well said!
