  1. I never slugged the barrel or cylinder, but my 929 on an ICORE target @50yds, iron sights, butt on the bench. .355", 125gr zero's JHP, 4.6 WSF. I think the black is 4", I couldn't be happier. Lapua brass if it matters.
  2. Toolguy definitely. Shares an amazing amount of info.
  3. You gotta watch out for lurkers too! All in fun, definitely protect your intellectual property. There's a ton of amazing info in this thread alone, not too mention this whole website. So many years of experience and helpful people. Thanks too all!
  4. not unheard of on far and near string 1, a lot of cursing isn't unheard of either. just saying lol
  5. He got 18.5 of Z, I don't remember why but i ended up with 16. This is just for the G0704/BF20 machines as far as I know. I had read about this mod before I bought the machine so I did it as part of the initial disassemble and clean. Also slotted out the table for a little more Y while I was in there. I eventually converted to CNC but even as a manual machine the extra travel was great. Obviously some rigidity is lost at the extreme height of travel, but I don't cut while its up there. It's great for tool clearance though.
  6. Very good advice! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.grizzly.com/products/Drill-Mill-with-Stand/G0704, the head can be flipped over for a total of 16 inches of Z. I did it to mine. If thats too much then http://www.grizzly.com/products/4-x-18-3-4-HP-Mill-Drill/G0781?utm_campaign=zPage check out this thread for StraightUpOg's amazing work with a mini mill http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=168050 I know he converted to CNC, but it should give you some idea of how versatile that little mill can be. Almost any pistol part can fit in there.
  7. I've got a 929 and was thinking about a Racemaster. Looking forward to hearing how it works out. Thanks Kevin
  8. I replace the primer slide bearing when it starts sticking. It has a coating that wears eventually. Changed it 3 times in 20 years, seems reasonable maintenance.
  9. I use federals in my revo. When SPP aren't available I've used SPP magnum or match interchangeably. Of the three versions of SPP I've always been able to find something.

  14. For me it breaks down into square end and ball end, 2 flute and 4 flute. I always try to get double ended mills if they're available, little bit cheaper than buying two individual ones. Sizes are tough to recommend, kinda project dependent. You couldn't go wrong with 1/8 and 1/4 in your inventory though. Ball and square of each, 2 flute for aluminum and 4 flute for steel. Maritool.com and lakeshorecarbide.com are vendors I've used and like very much. You can get a face mill from Shars.com pretty cheap and get inserts for it on ebay. Somewhere in this thread StraightupOg got one. I use mine like a flycutter with just one insert most often. Dovetails are gonna be for whatever sights you are installing. Brownells will have the sizes you need. Welcome to an awesome hobby
  15. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=209014&page=3#entry2431270 In post 64 of this thread I did some of that. Imported my ICORE clubs logo, flipped it, traced over it and engraved it.
  16. Here's a shorter one by Curt Chan, I found it full of good tips. He moves fast though. I have to pause the video every time he shows something so I can try it. Ok, just so I have this straight, he is basing this off an imported picture? yeah, that's a cool trick too. You can scale the canvas, or back ground pic to the correct size and then work over it. For example I imported a cell phone pic I took of my Glock 35 slide. Scaled it to the correct size and then was able to draw front slide serrations around the factory engraving. That was easiest for me to just look at it and see how I liked it. here's another Curt one where he does some of that
