  1. Been doing this, particularly when the doctor says my blood pressure is too high. I ask him to come back in 10 minutes and it comes right down. Morning of a match as well. Always helps. Thanks Kevin
  2. that's awesome!!!!! you've got quite the shop going with your mill and now this!!!
  3. It's a good layout for the set up crew too. If somebody gets there early just get to setting up F&N or the steel. No need to wait around for a diagram. First person there gets to set up a steel challenge like stage however THEY like it. Doesn't affect the round count of the match. It's been working really well for the club for a long time. If the guy with the stages has car trouble or something we only have to ad hoc one stage really. It keeps the standing around waiting for direction to a minimum. Thanks PJL
  4. PJL does do an outstanding job(although if I never see F&N again I'd be ok with that). I'm in the same club and actually shoot a 6 shot limited gun. I know right. My 625 is just cool to me, I dunno. I've never felt at a disadvantage, I might have one extra reload on the field course if I'm doing everything right. If I'm not that's on me. I'd personally prefer they just drop the 6 round neutral rule and let it go. Level playing field across whatever division you're in. Let the stage creativity happen! In full disclosure though I have a new 929 in the safe . Just haven't had time to get it ready yet. Thanks to all the MD's and set up crews that keep it happening
  5. A glass is raised to Charlie! And all our best friends who stay with us in our memories. Rest in peace Charlie.
  6. Congrats that's pretty cool!!!!!! Interested to see how it goes swapping controls. What's the benefit to the controller you're looking at versus a PC based one?
  7. With the crown, did you cut the barrel itself or the little bolt on cap? Assuming you're not using the comp. Kevin
  8. The only thing I'd change is the Z stepper, I'd go to the next bigger one. Not a big deal, just wouldn't mind more z oomph. Plug and play I don't know, there wasn't when I was building mine. There might be now.
  9. Thanks Travers Tool for the awesome 20% 4th of July discount. America on top!!!!!!!
  10. 20% off at Travers Tool today only, coupon code BLAST Get yourself something nice like a new Kurt D40
  11. In a busy shop I could see having a separate machine just for engraving. The speeds and feeds are so slow it could tie up a more productive spindle for a long time. About 20min for the above, 2ipm @7k rpm. Then a clean up pass with the facing mill to take the burrs off. The engraving tool did leave quite a burr, Not sure if that's normal or I need to adjust something. Maybe just a dull tool.
  12. original art for comparison. I had to flip it as well, wanted the bullets going toward the target!
  13. Did a little engraving with F360. Was pretty easy once I figured it out. Insert a jpg of the image, use calibrate to fit the intended area, sketch the lines with tsplines, then trace under the 2d drop down in cam. Rotated the image a little too to better fit the target area. It wouldn't do the text with all the fonts on my pc for some reason. I googled that and its a known issue, but probably pretty low priority. So I had to use another cad program for the text.
  14. "art mc" on this forum. Passed away this weekend. Long time California Wheel Burner's member and ICORE shooter. I personally had just begun to get to know him, and had grown incredibly fond of him. MIssing him very much. He kicked my ass in a match just last month. Kevin
  15. Yes is the short answer. Mesh is super simple. Pros are its inexpensive, and it's simplicity. Cons are it only accepts stl or dxf. None of the more advanced stuff like thread milling or hsm clearing paths. Only accepts two kinds of paths per code post. A rough and a finish. If your part needs more then it's cut and paste time. I do like it, and I like that I own it outright and its on my PC.
  16. I have in the past, using f360 lately. Thinking about it?
  17. http://carbide3d.com/blog/2015/how-to-buy-a-haas/ Great write up on what it's like to step up in machine size and some of the considerations involved. The author is the same guy that makes MeshCam and now a table top cnc machine. He's pretty hip to small cnc, it's cool to read his perspective on becoming a manufacturer of his own parts.
  18. I thought so too then I saw this today and it looked pretty good to me, https://instagram.com/p/2j0wBjCE6v/
  19. oh if they look good the pictures arent doing their job lol. They are pretty rough. I think my 3/4" end mill for china just cant give a decent surface finish at useful speed. Going to pick up an insert 3/4" cutter I think. the 1/4" cutter I bought preformed awesome though Check out this video of the Shear Hog. Its on my wish list for sure, I don't have any insert end mills. He's got a great instagram page as well. There's a 10% Instagram discount if you ask for it.
  20. Good question my friend!!!! I was thinking later it was for table starts. Easier to pick up maybe. Kevin
  21. If anybody else cares here's a quick and dirty wrench. Just drop some machine screws through the holes into the nuts. Easy spanner wrench. I did bend the screw getting the retaining nuts off, but it worked fine. G0704 spindle bearing wrench.pdf
  22. Ohhhhh, I use a 5/16 square drive socket and a cordless impact http://www.ebay.com/itm/Grey-Pneumatic-1010FP-3-8-Drive-x-5-16-Square-Female-Pipe-Plug-Socket-/190740994668?hash=item2c690c9a6c No little bar required, you can just hold the spindle with your off hand
  23. for the spindle bearings? I'll make a drawing for you, super easy to make. You have a harbor freight nearby? Scratch the harbor freight, I just looked the wrenches are too expensive for this. You're gonna need a piece of flat bar 3" wide, .500" thick and whatever long. Maybe 12" or so. I'll get a drawing going.
