  1. Not that I am for it, but try this for a "sensible reason"... Magazine changes are a "practical" skill set. One that should be executed on the clock. I just plain consider this a FACT* (my opinion). There are various ways to do so. One can test the skill set with a standards (mandatory reload at point X in the stage). One can also get there with a magazine restriction. The latter would allow for the shooter to decide the when and where. Freestyle. A limit would also allow the stage designer to put the shooter on the edge. For instance, how about a 30 round mag on a stage that finishes on distant steel that pushes the shooter close to that capacity. They then have to choose whether hit a reload before the steel or risk missing steel and running dry. Freestyle. (which you wouldn't get with a "perform a mandatory reload before the last shot" stage) *Even the mag-coupler crowd can have a failure in any number of ways. Then why not manipulate this required skill set the same way we do with Pistol, by stage design. Either requiring a mag change via a standards stage, or force them to use a shorter mag based on position requirements. It's really common in three gun to have to shoot off of an angled roof, or through a low prone port, or up against a wall. Any of these positions can make using a 48 round, 60 round or 100 round magazine difficult or impossible. Rather than putting the requirement on the RO to count to 30, or taking equipment that members have already bought and telling they can't use it any more, or if they did to use it in an different Division. To be honest, I haven't been back to SMM3G since they did away with C-Mags. I just bought one the yeat before. That was the straw that broke the camel's back and I don't go to Rio anymore. I don't go to Rocky Mountain because they don't allow me to monopod off my coupled magazines like I do at every other venue. Both of the matches have every right to make whatever changes they want, just like I have the right to patronize them or not as I see fit. Funny thing is I'm shooting Open this year which means neither of the rules would apply to me anyway, but I still don't have a desire to go back.
  2. Travis already sent out an email to the early registration folks. If you think you should have been on that list you might want to hit him up. travis@mgmtargets.com
  3. It's not a Pro Am this year. I tried to talk Travis into it but he's a bit of a sissy (just kidding Trav!) Just sign up for the Division you want to shoot and have fun.
  4. Geez, I think Tischauser needs to apologize for his spelling. I think he started drinking to watch Hot Shots and just didn't quit.
  5. Already heard back from John. He's gonna stop by the Sig booth next week at SHOT and see if he can get them to sign the certification form for the Equinox. If he does he'll add it ASAP.
  6. Yeah, don't do that. If it's not specifically listed, it's not legal. Really simple though. Just email dnroi@uspsa.org and ask about it. With the massive number of different versions that Sig kicks out (and they're naming system) it probably just slipped through. Should be pretty easy to fix it and be completely legal. I emailed John as well but it always helps to have someone with the actual gun in hand do so as well.
  7. Pure recoil reduction is about the same as a decent comp. Where you lose with the suppressor is the stability in the sights. Basically, offhand with a comp, the gun should stay on target. With a suppressor, it wanders around a bit. Rearward force gone, but there's nothing directing the gun in any particular direction. I've shot more than a couple matches with my SureFire on. It's okay, but nowhere near as fast as a Cooley Comp. A very good compromise is the SureFire MB556K and a suppressor. You can use just the muzzle break at the matches you really care about and the suppressor at the fun ones. It is a pain in the butt to use the timer with a can. Depending on whether it's one with a sensitivity adjustment you may not pick up the last shot. The RO just needs to pay attention to what he's doing. If the timers picking up shots, no change. If it's not he needs to get closer or tap. Depends a lot on the ammo and can being used. The blow back issue can be significant though. Again it depends alot on the ammo. Some will be very Ammonia-Y (uh, yeah that's a word) and sting the eyes. A gas buster charging handle is a must on any suppressed rifle though anyway. Won't cure the problem, but it helps.
  8. He may be swamped but I would think you should have heard back by now. Kind of nice that my AD is on here once in awhile. In case anyone is wondering. I guarantee you each and everyone of the Area Directors, and the President, and even our previous President did read at least portions of this thread. I know all the current BOD is aware of the feelings and sentiments, not just of the people who posted here, but also the people who emailed and contacted their AD's. Keep in mind it was a holiday season when all this went down. Some of the other AD's had other things they needed to do for the holidays besides listen to people tell them they suck. Not me, I'm used to people telling me I suck year round. That said, just relax and give it a month. If it's not fixed by Valentines Day you can start lighting the torches and sharpening the pitchforks again. And for any of the folks outside the Area that contacted me, thank you but for the most part I tried to only respond to the folks in my area. Not that I'm ignoring you, I just think it's more appropriate that your own AD is the one who replies to group emails. For the folks that emailed me from in my area. I think I got back to everyone. If not I apologize. I did read all my emails but I may have missed replying to a couple if they came in around Xmas since I had spotty reception on my phone.
  9. The Glock Gen 4 is specifically designed to be reversible. New magazines have the cuts on both sides of the tube. The same mag release will work on either the left or right side. But I believe Glock considers it an armorer level swap so it wouldn't be in the manual.
  10. Didn't know it was out yet. Mike's been teasing me with it for almost a year now.
  11. Nope, he was accompanied by at least three dummies who couldn't recognize sarcasm if it had a sign posted on it And just how are we supposed to know that was sarcasm????????? What do you want, a list? 1) Posted by a long time member and active shooter 2) The rash of sarcastic posts by other long time members and active shooters 3) The obvious lack of learned members not addressing the post seriously And the little smart ass ninja smiley. Hey, I think Flex has a thread for you down in the what I like section.
  12. Why would he role over in his grave if he was alive? :-) Well if he was alive he'd probably be doing a lot more than rolling. More like kicking, screaming and clawing. I'm betting a lot of, "let me out of this grave!!!"
  13. I used one for a lot of years and only recently switched to a 1.5-5 Leupold. I just swapped it over to the CM-R2 reticle last spring. It worked just fine with the circle dot out to just past 300 but then it got squirelly. The CM-R2 is a great reticle for our sport. I think it's still a great scope for short to mid range matches. And as long as the targets are reasonable size you shouldn't have any problem with it for 3 Gun.
  14. Blue for me, 4 pads, and a Gen 3 Magwell. I'll keep an eye on the topic.
  15. Don't know, that pic looks old enough they probably didn't even have busses back then. But he probably did ride the short horse drawn cart to school.
  16. Dude I can't believe you don't know who TGO is. TGO=The Goofy One. He's the guy that gets up every year at Nationals with the really long speeches that take longer than he actually spent shooting during the match.
  17. You start with the assumption that, because 30 round magazines are GI issue and standard on the AR15 platform, anything with larger capacity is somehow "impractical". Your premise is wrong IMHO. Oh, and FYI, Beta mags are already banned under many Tactical Division rules (including IMA-SMM3G). Much more common and practical are the many box magazines now available in the 40-60 round range. Your argument to ban these is on very shaky ground, even by your own dubious logic. Allowing higher-capacity mags that are generally about the same size as a standard thirty-round mag makes sense. I think at some point the added weight may become a little extreme, even if the length is similar. I can at least see the logic in allowing that type of magazine in tactical divisions. What do you think of the Beta mag restrictions? Are you for 'em or agin' 'em? Just out of curiousity, do you think Beta Mags were made for competition use, or the Military? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't competition. If you want to see most of the arguments about this go read the 2011 FNH match thread. Larry wanted to cap it at 30 rounds. It didn't go over well.
  18. Dang Rob, you've posted more in the last two weeks than you have in the last two years. You planning to run for Area 2 Director or something?
  19. Doug, (and I) run R and R Saigas. I know Robbie has a Cal Legal version of his magwell listed. Not sure about the Tac 47. I've got a love hate thing going with my Saiga. It "normally" runs. About 99 percent of the time. I get about one malf out of every hundred rounds. The upside is those malfunctions are very, very easy to clear, normally. It took me awhile to figure out how to actually clean the gun. Took me several months before I figured out I was missing a spot that was building up a bunch of crud in the gas tube. Once I got that figured out, the head of my piston mushroomed over locking the gun up big time. Got that fixed and had a 3rd at Nationals and a 1st at the FB3G match with it. When the thing runs it is absolutely awesome. Just perfection. Easy to shoot, and unbelievably fast. Ergonomically, the R and R, not the Firebird, handles just like an AR. Mag straigt in, AR pistol grip, AR safety. The charge handle is a bit further forward but still on the correct side for off hand manipulation. As far as the Akdal's go. I think Jim is a freaking genius when it comes to this thing. I shot with him and another one of the Firebird guys at Nationals that was running an un-modded Akdal. Neither of the guns ran 100%. It looked mainly magazine related, but the jams were ugly and time burners to fix. I'm sure Jim is going to get everything sorted out. I just don't think its there yet. Keep in mind this is based on 3-4 month old data and Jim may have everything sorted out by now. I've also heard the Akdal has more recoil than the Saiga, but that was from someone with a vested Saiga interest, I haven't shot one. To be perfectly honest, if it was me, I wouldn't by anything at this point. Give it 6 months or so, find someone(s) who have each gun and try them out. Both of these platforms are essentially new technology and it takes time to tweak them for our game.
  20. The only other guy I've talked to that wanted that restriction to go away was a gun smith. When I mentioned the argument about everyone wanting to build new guns with the new caliber he said that was what he was hoping for. At least he was straight forward about it.
  21. With other restrictions going away, would there really be any need to continue the restriction on .40 for Major? That's also something of a legacy restriction that, with the reduction in PF for Major, may no longer be necessary or even desirable. My way of thinking, absolutely. Yes you can make Major with a smaller diameter bullet. But making that change would result in everyone elses limited guns being at a capacity disadvantage. Given a choice between a .40 with x number of rounds and a major 9 with x+3 number, that's a sizable difference. And one that is not easy to change the gun over from. Adding a thumbrest is one thing. Making 5000 competitors sell their .40's(or at least the uppers) in order to buy the new caliber, doesn't sound like a good idea to me. As long as we use length restrictions on the magazines to limit capacity, going to a smaller bullet will cause some ugly changes.
