  1. Talked to Manny. Frostproof has never expressed an interest in holding Nationals. Rockcastle is great for three gun but they have something like four or six pistol bays.
  2. If we make it two days, it only has the capacity for half the number of shooters. So instead of having 500-600 we can only have 250-300 for Nationals. That's the reason for a half day format. To double the number of shooters at the match while keeping environmental conditions as similar across the files as possible. This has been done before in Bend, Or when Voigt was Pres. It worked then. I just don't get the complaining about a one day longer match. If you want to shoot a two day, shoot a section match. There are a lot if those out there. There are a lot of shooters who want the National Championship to be an event. Phil is trying to do that. Why not let him give it a chance for a yea?
  3. It is invite by application. Did you check the website? If you want an invite you have to apply for one.
  4. It's up now Jim. Don't know if they were updating when you looked but it's there now.
  5. Yeah, I was a bit surprised as well. Not sure if IPSC is just being overly conservative on the first round or if they added more regions since the last WS. I'm pretty sure of two things. The US will get more slots, and it won't be enough for everyone that wants to go to be able to.
  6. Talked to Phil, he said all the allocated slots for the US have been put out. I'm going from memory, but I think he said, they used 48 for the teams and the US only received 61 in the first batch. That only left 13 for people who weren't on the team. He's asking IPSC for more. I'm really hoping he gets them because I'd like to go.
  7. The match is Thurs-Sunday for the main match. It's only four days, which is the same schedule you're proposing. Monday-Tuesday, staff match, Wed off to reset the stages, Thur-Sun Main Match. It's only one day longer than the previous Nationals matches with a lot more stages.
  8. That was all Kim and HQ. Had nothing to do with it. Just saw it up today when I was looking for something else. If you had to wait for me to figure out how to post something on a website, you'd be waiting a long, long time.
  9. I have a bunch of their 55 gr on hand. I haven't really tried it for accuracy because I normally only use it inside 50 yards anyway. Seems perfect for that.
  10. Probably. I would always check ammo with a magnet before shipping it or leaving for a big match. They are supposed to be nonmagnetic bullets. I know more than one competitor who has had ammo that one case didn't stick, and the next case did. Better to take a few minutes and check than get DQ'd from a big match.
  11. I've run 68, 75 and 77. Currently running 77 gr from Freedom Munitions for the long range stuff. Ran for the first time in a match last weekend and had two first round hits at 420 with them. Can't ask for better than that. I also used them on the MGM spinner they had. Saved a lot of time over a couple guys who burned 30 rounds at it and didn't spin it.
  12. 2014 Rule book is posted on the uspsa.org website.
  13. Have you tried the SKEL mount? Might help and if you need the rear rail you can slip in a A645 angle mount.
  14. Brownells has their SHOT Show discount code for 10% off an order of $250.00 or more. Source Code SSS. I wouldn't count on seeing another discount code posted from Hiperfire. BTW, the Brownells code is only good till Jan 24.
  15. Didn't say the electronic PDF wouldn't be available before Feb 1. I said we'll have something better than just a PDF by Spring.
  16. Be careful with what you are having re-anodized. The anodization is an oxidation process so it's consuming a bit of the metal. I think (not 100%) that you need to remove the existing anodize before applying new. This means either chemical removal or blasting it off. Both will remove more metal. For some items it's not a big deal. I'd be real careful about doing it with stuff that has critical tolerances. I've done a few things in anodize but I always get them from the maker before they are anodized the first time to do them in other colors. You might want to also look at Cerakote. I'd use that before trying to strip the existing anodize off. Just my opinion though. And I'm not that up to speed on anodize, I'm just parroting what other folks have told me. Oh, and make sure there are no steel parts attached to what you are anodizing. Thread inserts, backers, screws, anything like that. Anodizing and steel don't mix.
  17. I can pretty easily out run my Benelli's bolt. I can't record anything much quicker than about a .15. Seems to be the speed limit for my gun. I did shoot the Beretta 1301 at the 3GN Shootoff. They had a little demo shoot going on. I just set the gun on my shoulder and bump fired it. Best guess would be they were around .11-.12 splits. About as fast as I can go. Beretta ran fine for my extremely limited speed test.
  18. I'm kind of wondering if someone just looked at steel that has been dimpled and decided a hollow point did it. Normally with high velocity rifle ammo, when it dimples it leaves a little hump or nipple in the center. Looks like it was hit with a hollow point but it's not.
  19. I shot my 77 gr load on steel at 50 yards and didn't have a problem. That's the first I'm hearing of it as well. I'm not sure what the mechanism for damage would be with a JHP.
  20. Rule book is at the printer, or was before I went to SHOT. We should be able to do you one better on the electronic version of the rule book. I believe the ETA on it is this spring.
  21. The reason Burris markets the scope that way is they put the on/off switch on the left side of the FastFire. It's kind of a pain to get to when you mount it on the right side at 45 degrees.
  22. Just shot a match at the Pro Gun Club yesterday. Really a great range and a well done match. Pete does a great job putting a match on. Looking forward to shooting there again.
  23. There are lots of things clubs can mandate in regards to stage design that are transparent to the shooter. Close steel in USPSA, forward falling poppers, and some other things. As an MD those are things you can work with in setting up your stages. I had a club that put a ban into place on driving steel down with more than two rounds. We worked with the club to avoid using rear falling poppers for activators, how to place them in the bay to minimize rounds leaving. We talked about grants to buy new FFP steel and a couple other ways to mitigate it. Club reversed the rule and is using our rules again. There is no effect from the shooters side. Where local rules become a conflict is when shooters start being DQd or penalized for actions they can do at any other match in the country. At that point it's no longer a USPSA match. Whether it's the USPSA group or the host range doing the enforcement. As far as taking as gospel what an AD says...don't. Not specific to any one AD and certainly not a slam on Jay. No single AD has all the answers and is always right. Everyone of us has made errors or been wrong at one point on something. Best bet with questions of this type is to ask Amidon. If he has questions about it he brings it to the BOD and we figure out what to do.
