  1. I think Hamp covered that question rather well. He only posted the top spots with the FFL and big items. He didn't cover the rest of the Lewis breakdown because I would imagine that he doesn't feel like typing in a couple hundred names and prize packages. Sounds like the rest of the shooters will get the prized it may just take a week or two via the slowest method of transit.
  2. I shoot production, not because I'm hiding from someone at local matches but because there is good competition in it. I don't compete against other Production guys, I compete agains the Open shooters. It's nice to come in 2nd or 3rd overall at a match with 70 or 80 people. As far as competition on a National level we have Dave to keep our egos in check. We certainly don't shoot it for prizes. The only matches I won anything worth mentioning last year were matches I didn't shoot Prodution. I finished 4th at Nationals and for the first time since I've been shooting the Nationals I didn't win something that I had to clear with and FFL holder. And finally I shoot Production because it's what I carry, day in and day out. I got tired of trying to split my training time between my work gun and my play gun. My shooting has gotten much better since I started shooting Production and I intend to stay. Maybe one of these days I'll break out my limited gun again. I'll probably shoot worse overall than I do with the Glock but at least I won't be hiding.
  3. Yes I was at the Florida Open last year. Yes I shot that shoot off. No it is not a Nationals style shoot off. If you want your, (Florida Open) style, it's going to be something new. I think everyone knows the type you're talking about but it has not been done at Nationals. And the shoot off at the Florida Open took a lot longer than an hour. I think it was a couple. And there really weren't that many people that signed up.
  4. The issue with trigger pull weight is it is biased against the type of gun. For example. IPSC has a 5 pound trigger pull requirement. Great if you have a DA/SA gun. First pull is 6-7 pounds, the rest are 1 1/2 pound. Big advantage over a 600 round match. If you use a striker fired gun or a DAO all pulls are 5+ pounds. I think USPSA actually has the more logical trigger pull rules.
  5. The problem with running box stock guns is where to draw the line on the gun. IPSC has basically taken the view that they want to make manufacturers make better guns. That's where you get guns like the Tanfoglio Sport( can't remember the name for sure now)? Gun is a limited gun in 9mm with a DA first shot. Everything else is the same. Most of the ones I've seen even have screw holes in the frame for an optic. So this gun that is box stock factory has all these enhanced features. But then you get a stock Springfield XD that doesn't have any of these features. Sure you can legally add most of the important ones, and normally very cheap, a new set of sights, some Tru-Grip and you're good to go. Just those mods go a long way towards leveling the playing field. If you stick with just stock guns you create a division where whatever manufacturer is will ing to play can dominate. I think that Production should be much more even across the board. By allowing some limited mods, pretty much any gun can compete. However I still haven't heard anyone tell my why the Vanek trigger should be illegal. Either come up with a basis for it or stop confusing people. I know several people that have shot them. The only time I know of that it was found illegal was when the pre travel got a bit out of whack and the trigger safety wouldn't activate.
  6. The shoot-offs were for a bit more than bragging rights. If I remember there was a check that went along with winning the shoot offs. Not a huge amount but it was not bad either. As a side note we won't be holding shoot offs at the 2006 Area 1 match but we will be doing at least one side match.
  7. Yes on the reloading, no on the altitude and atmosphere. What you have there is a cursed gun. Ideally you should just unload it as soon as possible before the curse gets onto you other guns and stankifies them. You need to get it out of state to make sure, say somewhere like Oregon. I can probalby hook you up with a guy who specializes in buying cursed guns. He takes them to the Pope for an exorcism (hey if the guy can bless Ferraris I think he can do a quick gun exorcism). It's an expensive process so, or course the gun price is not the highest. But you get rid of the demon gun and you make $34.00 in the process, minus shipping. So just send me the gun and a check for $1.00 and I'll make sure everything is okay and it won't funk up the rest of your guns. Act quick though.
  8. I'm just curious what's wrong with the Vanek triggers. The only external difference that I see is that the trigger starts further back along the same travel path. I know Ken Ja had to take his out at Nationals last year but my understanding was that was because the trigger safety didn't work. If I'm missing something let me know. As far as the extended mag release. Since Springfield offers Custom Shop guns, and they are listed on the US List, same number, unless they have features that are considered evil, like the stippled grip and beavertail. And the part is offered in the catalog, it should be legal to replace the extended mag release. Yes it's splitting hairs but it's no worse than the asinine decision that IPSC makes to favor certain gun designs, CZ, at the expense of others, Glock, by not allowing fiber optic. And this is from a guy that wouldn't use an FO sight if I had the choice.
  9. Application is up on the Area 1 website... http://www.uspsa1.org
  10. cep, this is getting a little off topic. PM sent.
  11. You'll be below the target at about 10-15 yards with that combo. If you want to keep fiber Dawson makes a .205, and a .225 for the Glock. Neither is perfect but they are a lot closer. The Warren site also lists a Fiber Optic sight in the works.
  12. I'm sorry, I know that Tactical debates are not a good idea on this forum but this is an exceptionally bad idea. If you have kids, or neighbors, or anyone else that may come to your home, you absolutely must be able to identify your target before killing it. What happens to the neighbor or cop that comes to your door because it didn't latch and the wind blew it open in the middle of the night. The risk of a flashlight, "making yourself a target" is far outweighed by the ten years on a manslaughter beef. In most states you'll need a little more than just a burglar to kill him anyway. Seeing hands, actions, facial expressions will let you know more than some knucklehead stumbling around in your house. Your best bet is to get to a safe room, behind a locked door with family at hand and call the police. If someone wants to pop in to the room most tactical lights are bright enough to cause pain or at least discomfort to someone looking at it, especially with dark adapted eyes. As far as the original question, a Glock 17 with XXX tactical light is a great choice. My personal preference is for SureFire lights after going through half a dozen M-3 and M-6 lights. I also see these lights fail constantly on the range during night practice. The M-3x and M-6x came after I gave up on Streamlight products but I hear they are much improved. I also have not heard anything bad about the Glock lights and they do make one with an integrated laser. As far as the difference between 9mm and 40. The Glock was originally designed around the 9mm case and I don't think that anything else runs quite as well. The 9mm will last forever and digest pretty much anything you throw in it. It is also the least sensitive to limp-wristing. And the last thing to consider. It functions better with a light than the 22. In fact Glock even has a separate set of mag springs to use in the 22 if you are going to mount a light. Stick with the 9mm, and a light.
  13. I'm glad to see they changed the MOR entry fee. There was no way that I was paying $100.00 to shoot a 4 stage trophy only match.
  14. Sounds like a problem with the basepads. I have several different pads on my Glock mags. The only one that gives me fits is the Arredondo. Also about 5-6 rounds in. My guess is that the pad is not lining up well with the bottom of the mag, probably in the front and the spring is being held up there causing the jams.
  15. Yep, different than the 17 or 34. There is an oval cut at the front similar to the 34 but the rear has an oval cut into the beef of the slide in front of the rear sight. And yep, still running the 17.
  16. The 1 prefix was used on the large number of frames that they replaced a couple years ago because of a mold issue. The frames were very slightly out of spec and resulted in a 1:10,000 failure rate or some very small number. Glock replaced them all anyway.
  17. The G18 Slide is not beefed up. In fact it's pretty extensively lightened. At the front and rear.
  18. It's a toss-up with LE agencies. Some specify with mag safety, others specify without. Best bet is to make both, from an LE sales perspective.
  19. I think the Model 10 is used quite a bit in PPC. But I think most of them mount a Bo-Mar Aristocrat rib sight or something similar. This is probably more money than you are looking to spend. I did see an adjustable sight added to the rear of a model 10 on Gun Broker but it looked like it would fall off it the gun was shot. I don't think there is any way to increase the front sight size without machining. However it should be a pretty easy machining job.
  20. "The gun smith would not say exactly how he did it because he has spent the last 4 years perfecting the process. " Yeah, and he doesn't want you to know that after that 4 years he still has to just whack it with a big frickin hammer.
  21. Am I the only one that thinks it's really obvious that this match needs to expand? Increase the number of days/stages and let some more people in. It's probably too late this year, but come on, two days? That's silly. I think it would be cool to have the first 3-Gun match with 500 competitors and I bet SMM3G could do it. My app was received on Dec 2 at 9:49 AM. I'm hoping that was early enough. It would be nice to not have to send it overnight as I'm sure a lot of folks did.
  22. Depending on how much you like you Glocks you can try what I did. I use Arched Mainspring housings on all my 1911's. Just a subtle difference but the point of aim is very close.
  23. Yep, it's more to do with the variance in 45 ACP primers. Just ask the revolver guys. Small Pistol/Rifle primers are easier to set off, (less surface area on the primer for the force to be spread out?) That's part of the reason that Glock went with small pistol primers on the GAP round. It has nothing to do with how clean the gun is. We had it happen with several guns. It only happened with that lot of ammo and the guns still had issues after I went through and detail cleaned them. Any other ammo worked 100%. I "think" that pulling the striker back further is what creates the increase in reliabilty. I didn't have long enough with the parts to check dimensions.
