  1. Another reason would be to use the same lower on two top ends. Say a 9mm lower for production and a Docter sighted upper for open. Now you have to buy two guns anyway because slides aren't available.
  2. I've had the chance to shoot two M&P's now. I got one for a customer a couple weeks ago and got to shoot that one. Very good, 100% reliable with CCI Blazer ammo. I won one at the SMM3G and shot it today for the first time. I had several malfunctions with this one. The rounds just didn't want to feed out of the magazine and would hang up on the breech face. Happened about 15 times in the first 100 rounds. Shot another 100 with only one malf. Hopefully it was just a break in period. I did get a weird two stage feeling when the slide was going forward though on some rounds. Almost like it was start going forward and then stop while stripping the round. I was surprised that I had the issues after the first one was flawless. The ammo this time was Win White box 180. The gun seems to point well vertically but I'm having some issues getting used to it on the horizontal axis. Seems to squirm side to side. Might just take some getting used to. I do like the gun. I hope mine works it's bugs out. Seems like a great gun.
  3. Try www.watershed-rainwear.com. They focus a lot on Law Enforcement sales but their stuff is really waterproof. Every time I wear mine at a match in the rain I normally have a couple offers to buy it.
  4. I raised the issue with Rob and PD a couple months ago when I first got the chrono figures from PD. I doubt that they're going to change though. PD is loading ammo to the same specs as the Winchester SXT Duty loads. This is as practice ammo for agencies using this duty ammo. Unfortunately, USPSA is a small enough market that I don't see them changing, just for us. It's a little more tricky for a commercial loader to change .2 gr than someone using a Dillon. The powder charges are measured using a plate that is manufactured for a specific charge weight. Changing requires the purchase of a new plate.
  5. I've had great luck with guns from EGW. The wait times are out there but the results are great.
  6. I would say that he's okay. The COF just specifies that a mandatory reload be made, it doesn't specify each time switching sides. For example, take a look at 99-16. That one specifies that a reload be made when switching sides of the barricade.
  7. I saw the Streamlight units at the SHOT Show. They looked pretty interesting. They don't mount with the standard method of sliding onto the rails from the front. The screw shown in the picture loosens the rail and you slip it on from the side. This way you don't have to put your hand in front of the end of the gun to get it on.
  8. It's probably a good idea to go out on a couple different days as well. I was shooting a stock G17 and getting 1.5 inch groups at 25 yds. The next time I went out it was closer to 4. When shooting off hand there's a potential that it might just be a bad day too. Definitely try different loads as well. I know American Eagle to have given me good groups in my guns but they're all ammo sensitive. Some will shoot really well with other ammo and not so good with other ammo.
  9. What happened? I've always had great luck working with Eric and his products. Fast response and quick shipping. The tape can be a little tricky to put on till you've done it a couple times. Let me know next time you're up and I can give you a hand.
  10. And I was told by a person the SO'd the last Nationals that there told specifcally not to look for it or call people on it. If they don't care about it at Nationals I won't lose sleep over a couple guys who hide behind screen names while calling others cheaters. My name is Chuck Anderson, it's in my profile, "Peter". It's a simple rule. It says no removing safeties. My idea of cheating is knowing there is a rule and deliberately violating it. Do I think that it's a good rule, no. I personally hate mag disconnects. If you want to get away with it I really don't care. I don't shoot IDPA. Not because of any problems I have with it, there just isn't a club nearby. I think that if there is a rule and the SO's are told to specifically not look for it that it's kind of ridiculous. Does that mean that it's legal? If I don't pull over and stop every person that's driving 5 mph over the speed limit does that somehow change the limit? It's still against the rule. You're never going to convince me that deliberately violating a rule, knowing you're violating it, is not cheating.
  11. It's cheating because there is a rule that specifically precludes it. If you want to buy an LE gun that doesn't have it, go for it. If you want to bug S&W till they see the error of their ways, go for it. If you want to deliberately remove a part in violation of the rules, cheat away.
  12. I shoot a Glock 17. I was actually considering a 9x21 bbl but I forgot it wouldn't work since it wouldn't be a factory Glock bbl. Oh well, maybe another time.
  13. Does the military caliber ban apply to visitors as well? I assume it does and I'm shooting production in 9x19 now. Is there a quick fix you're aware of?
  14. For shooting major loads out of a 17 you're going to want a comp. The 17C has a very short uncomped length (the comp starts to bleed gas after only a couple inches. A comp on the end will give you a little bit more room.
  15. I was wondering the same thing. The shots of me seem to make me look rather large not the slender svelte figure I see when I look in the mirror. Clearly they have been photoshopped to my detriment.
  16. Not according to their guys that I spoke to at the SHOT Show. It'll probably be awhile on that one. My understanding is that the 40 and then .357 SIG rollout, followed late spring by the 9mm. After that they'll do Compact or SubCompact variants. After that we may see a longer, more TACTICAL, version. Note I said Tactical, not purpose built for Production class. We wouldn't want the gun banned before it's even made.
  17. Since Frank has gone to the random bag of stuff for the prizes I doubt there is much of an advantage to being under classed at the match. You may get a big plaque or trophy but the only other thing you're going to get is a bit of cash. It's really not worth the effort to deliberately try to sandbag.
  18. Any idea for which gun? It's really a pain to pack weapon lights for all three guns.
  19. I haven't been loading my own in production. It's part of the reason I switched. I hate reloading. I know that the 147's from Atlanta Arms are supposed to be very soft and shootable. I just haven't got around to trying them. I like the ease of being able to go to the Bi-Mart 5 blocks from my house and buy all the match/practice ammo I need. Of the loads I've tried I really don't notice a difference. I'm sure some folks do. For me the 17 combined with the Rem 115's is just about a perfect combo. Shoots great and returns exactly where I want it to on the target.
  20. I use Remington UMC 115 gr. It has made PF in the 130-132 range everytime. It's plenty accurate for this and can normally be had pretty cheap. I normally pick up the 250 rd packs for $26-28 and the 50's are normally under $6.
  21. I'd say it's probably right about $50K confirmed right now with another 15K pretty darn likely. We had a really great response at the SHOT Show and as soon as I return to cold Oregon from sunny Florida I'll start pestering sponsors again. It's pretty safe to say that everyone will get something off the prize table. This is going to be a great match. I've spoken to several GM's that are planning to attend and have been doing my best to drum up interest from anyone I can find. Even those guys shooting the goofy looking guns with the round thing in the middle. For the folks that haven't been to a match put on by Everett, Tom and Mike they really are great matches. Talking to some of the folks that have shot a LOT of nationals, a lot say that the 02 and 03 matches that they put on were some of if not the best. So for those of you that are hot dogs and think you got a chance at winning, there's cash and prizes to be had. Even the Division winners will walk the table with the rest of us. And if you've never shot a major match before, you've got just as much of a chance at walking away with nice Trijicon scope, Springfield Armory pistol, or any of the other prizes. Regardless of where you finish you will get at least one or several new toys to go home with.
  22. To some degree the planning for Area 1 is even farther out. Marysville agreed to host the 2007 Area 1 at the same meeting held at the 2005 Area 1 match. Other matches, for sure Area 2 and I believe Area 4 are held in the same location and same date every year. At a minimum a 9 months need to go into an area match. And thats if it's at an already established range. If you're starting from scratch you'd better plan at least a year to line up food vendors, sponsors, tents, RO's and of course shooters. I would love to see all area matches on the calender by Area 2 each year. That would give everyone plenty of planning time.
  23. The ammo I received for testing was loaded in once fired brass, apparently. All the ammo went bang except for several fail to fires in a Glock with a very light striker spring. Replaced with a mid weight and no issues. The 124 9mm seemed okay. The 147 9mm was very scattered. I had results ranging from: G17 Stock Bbl L 904 H 989 Avg 962 G17 Stock Bbl L 900 H 1003 Avg 964 G34 L 998 H 1027 Avg 1015 Springfield XD 4" L 927 H 1016 Avg 971 STI 5" Bar-Sto Bbl L 1010 H 1037 Avg 1026 The 147 showed some pretty extreme differences between high and low rounds. Most of the power factors ended up being pretty high for Production. Out of 5" bbls it was pretty close to 150 pf. The 124 was much more consistent. Ranging from 128-133 pf. 128 out of the short bbls and 132-133 out of the 5" guns. The 40 ammo I did find interesting. I got a sample box of the long loaded 40 and tried it in my limited guns. The ammo varied between the two guns. 5" STI Bar-Sto Bbl L 893 H 918 Avg 905 PF 162 5" SV Bar-Sto Bbl L 924 H 966 Avg 942 PF 169 I talked to Joe Tranum at Precision Delta. He said that their Ammo is designed to mirror Winchester Talon SXT duty ammo. I checked this with the 40 and 9mm loads. Out of my Duty Glock 22 the SXT is right at an avg of 906 fps. Dead on with the slower of my limited guns. The 9mm was the same. The 147 SXT load is pretty consistent at about 148-151 PF our of several guns. I'm glad that USPSA has a policy in place for match ammo. I know that I wouldn't trust it to make power factor without USPSA saying it doesn't matter. As far as the feel of the ammo. The 147 was obviously a bit hotter than my 131 PF 115 gr loads. The 124 felt about the same. The 40 loads felt okay as well. I didn't notice any big issues with accuracy. All loads seemed close enough to POA.
  24. We're working on several food vendors right now. We should have a good selection by match time. There are no ticks, snakes or any other form of goofy critter at the range, well there are deer that don't know enough to get off the berms but they shouldn't be too much of a problem.
  25. We've gotten a tremendous response from sponsors to this match. The list as of the end of January is now posted on the Area 1 site, www.uspsa1.org. Just click on the link for the Area 1 match and the link for our sponsors is at the top. Check back often though. We're adding sponsors every week. At this point it's safe to say that everyone will have the opportunity to walk the prize table. For those folks that haven't heard how we're running the prizes for this match here ya go. We're paying cash back to our Division winners, $500.00 for Open and Limited for sure. The payback for the rest of the divisions will depend on how many folks we get there for them. Any division that gets 20 or more people will pay back $250.00 to the winner, under 20 will be $100.00. On top of the cash payback Division winners will have the same opportunity as the rest of us to walk the table. The prize table will be toured in random order. When you get picked you can select your prize. On top of this we'll have two side matches going on. The side match will be sponsored by Action Target and at least one firearm sponsor. We're planning to have one side match where you shoot sponsor supplied firearms, using ammunition supplied by Black Hills Ammunition on an Action Target 6-Plate rack. Fastest time wins the gun. We're also going set up an Action Target Dueling tree. On this one you get to shoot your own gun for an opportunity to win an Action Target steel target set up. On top of all the rest of this everyone will get a shooters bag that has, in addition to a great supply of catalogs from some of our vendors, a bottle of Unique-Tek Premium Weapons Cleaner and a custom embroidered Magazine Storage pouch from I Shot. This is going to be a great match. There is a very good chance that we're going to run out of space this year. Make sure to get your apps in soon.
