  1. It is a bad idea to shoot 5.56 ammunition in any .223 chambered rifle. Too_Slow is corect, the 5.56 chamber has more freebore to allow for the higher pressure round. You may be fine shooting 5.56 in a .223 chamber for a while but as the carbon builds up, dangerous over pressure problems can and do occur. My suggestion is to fire .223 ONLY in a .223 chambered gun and 5.56 and/or .223 cartridges in 5.56 or Wylde chambered guns.
  2. So I received a new Weaver 1-5x24 Weaver scope to T&E from the guys at ATK (they own Federal, CCI/Speer, Weaver, etc). It's a 30mm tube with both red and green illumination. I really like the first focal plane reticle and the green illumination. It came a couple weeks ago and I stuck it in an nice, inexpensive PEPR Mount I got from Sean at http://www.powerfactorshooting.com/Default.asp The mount works great, though I think a Larue SPR-E is in my future to put the scope a little farther forward. I put the scope on my new Noveske rifle and figured I would try it out. So far the scope seems to work very well. Its bright and clear, my only complaint is the reticle is a little busy for my taste. Anyone have any experience with the weaver scope as to durability, etc? I'd really like to find a great scope for 3G without breaking the bank. So far this seems like a good candidate... I'll throw in some pics just cause... Don't mind the troy sight on the front of the rifle, I just stuck it there, I dont' run irons on this rifle.
  3. Maggie Reese also runs a benelli. She cut down the stock though.
  4. Rest in Peace Brother. (It makes me sick that a politician wants to promulgate his political agenda using this hero's murder...but such are the times I suppose.)
  5. It should be. Email Mike "mike@shootersconnection.com" and he will fix you up!
  6. The new SVI mags have a differently designed/located mag catch hole. They must be modified towork with anything other than an SVI grip frame. The older SVI tubes are of the same design with respect to the mag catch hole as the STi and will work in a STI grip frame. In a gun with a STi grip, the best (most reliable) combo IMO for 21+1 is an old style SVI tube (good luck finding these), bolen folowers springs and besepads. The bolen components tend to go too low in the STI tubes and when they get below the side indentations of the tube, the follower can roll over and you are left with a mag shaped rattle. The SVi tubes are indented differently and further down on the tube... I don't have any experience with the new SVi followers.
  7. A belated Happy Birthday, Fran!!! Says in this thread you are 30...would not have guessed anything over 26 but that's just me.
  8. THE SD-E is awesome...just got mine yesterday.
  9. You draw looked great. Very agressive to the holster and solid presentation of the gun to the target. I can see noticeable improvement from just a short while back.

then spanky wrote: Okay, dumb....DUMB question... because I never really worked with free weights, how do you get to either the 250 figure or the 185 number? does that include the weight of the bar too? I think one of my local YMCA's has a Smith machine, so you can't just like drop the bar on your head or throat. they also have the regular benches where you could drop the bar straight onto your ribs. IIRC, the big plates were 45 pounds each, which always left me scratching my head: why didn't they just make them 50 pounds each? back when I used to work out at another Y, I used their Nautilus machines. They had two of each machine, a light one and a heavy one. It became a little pet peeve of mine...invariably, a woman would get on the heavy vertical chest (press?) machine, and have it set so that at most she was lifting two plates. If I sat in the light machine and put the pin at the bottom of the stack...I could still be there doing presses. It was just kind of aggravating...that's all. I keep telling myself that I am going to do this: http://www.lungusa.org/pledge-events/mo/st-louis-climb-fy12/ "Typical" free weight bench press bar weighs 45 lbs. I am not sure why the plates are 45lbs...always have been though. So 185 lbs is the bar with one 45 and one 25 on each end and 250 is two 45s, a 10 and a 2 1/2 plate one each end, for example. On a Smith machine, the bar is counter weighted so most people count it as 0.
  11. Congrats! Not much better than a new gun!!!
  12. For limited I really like the DAA Racemaster Holster and Pouches I got from Chuck, Mike and Barry at Shootersconnection.com The holster is as secure as they come when locked and then smooth as butter to draw from, with the ability to adjust just about every angle so you can get it where you want. The mag pouches are rock solid and also very secure. Not cheap but you get what you pay for IMO.
  13. I have a Noveske that I use for competition and am leaning toward a JP for duty use (their we've got your back" is unmatched for those of use who might have to use the rifle in the line of duty). IMO, both companies make outstanding products and have great customer service...can't go wrong either way. My only concern would be finding one rifle which does everything you want for both competition and other use may be a little tough...going to have to compromise somewhere I would think. Which is the only excuse I needed to get one for each! Good luck.
  14. And everything is 25% off now through Monday
  15. Yes they do. http://www.briley.com/2009/shotgungunsmithingpricing.html
  16. Awesome match. thanks Dave and all the staff for such a great match!!
  17. Very nice Steve! No worries, with some of your stages, I'm sure everyone will shoot at least 178 rounds even if the minimum is a few less!
  18. I believe in a "gain twist" rifled barrel, the twist rate increases as it progresses from the breech to the bore.
