  1. @DesertTortoise I have, but his biggest struggle is endurance. Being able to hold the gun up unsupported. Plus he likes shooting the pistol more and it's more about what he likes to shoot, versus actually shoots best.
  2. Post a photo of those grips from directly behind the gun please! Curious what their contour and width appear to be.
  3. The go with an EGW Medium spring for CCIs on a 650. That's exactly my gun, ammo, and reloading press. If you load them on a 1050 or another line of reloading equipment that will consistently cram rock hard CCIs into the bottom of the cavity, you can get away with a PD 14 with all the other bells and whistles, from what I hear. But CCI + Dillon 650 = EGW Medium spring ...and my Stock 3 is getting Cerakoted shortly. I wanted a unique looking gun and enjoy cerakoting firearms, so I chose the blues gun over the hard chrome.
  4. I created a playlist so all 4 videos would be easy to find in order: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwzRTye8pZ0VD8Mqa6un1kvPZmqnz2f1U
  5. Would you expect to shoot a field course well if you only airgunned it three times? Before each string of the classifier airgun it including reloads and weak hand / strong hand transitions and such two or three times. Along with airgunning the entire thing several times when you're on deck. Treating them like any other stage means... respecting their importance and finding/prgramming around/avoiding pitfalls, too.
  6. Good point. Are you slowfiring two shots into the head anytime there's a partial target with a noshoot stapled diagonally across the chest? Stop that. Aim at the top corner or far side of the lower A-zone and accept some fast Charlie's while still holding well away from the noshoot.
  7. Suggestion; use video in your dryfire. Do dryfire draws WITH VEST ON until they look fast. You'll be shocked how fast you have to move. (This also holds true for running vs. jogging between arrays.) Film yourself. (Think of draw as superfastkaratechop to get your hand on the gun, pause to get a firm grip at your current speed of hand movement, then snap that thing out onto target with another superfastkaratechop.)
  8. I agree. But I also won't call someone a fool for waiting 1,000 rounds and a couple months of use before spending the $$$ (And the EGD Xtreme rod works just as well as Henning's)
  9. Ammo is responsible for probably 50% of problems with any handgun. And magazines probably another 25% Most of the time "this %+$@& gun won't work!" it isn't the gun's fault at all.
  10. Ahh! I don't know why I assumed it was 9mm. Back to the mindset of Minor PF making it less critical.
  11. Spring the gun heavy to start. A gun with 1.5 pounds of extra trigger pull and a pinch more muzzle flip are preferable to where I began: a shiny new Tanfo with $300 in parts installed that didn't run at all. EGD M or PD 15.5 hammer spring, and a 10 pound recoil spring along with very short ammo, or a reamed chamber. Then experiment with lighter springs as you get more used to the platform and tune your ammo to match.
  12. What primers will you be loading? What reloading press? Will you have the chamber reamed? What parts are you putting into the gun to start? Honestly, I suggest ordering an EGW Medium spring and a PD 15.5 or 14 in most cases if someone isn't decking the gun out with aftermarket parts and wants to run factory primers. If in doubt, put an EGW Medium into the gun. If it won't run, you have ammo or firing pin block problems or something similar. Any Tanfo should run on the EGW M spring. From there, you can work your way down to lighter hammer spring weights.
  13. How many times do you air gun your way though a long field course memorizing all the places you need to stand and where to reload if you want to shoot it well? Now. Honestly: How many times do you air gun your way through a "shoot 6, reload, shoot 6" classifier? See where I'm going with this?
  14. I believe you'll have to do some fitting with the Delta, but it works just fine with a Bolo
  15. @rowdyb yikes. Well, glad you got it worked out and took the time to verify the rules yourself. Another good example along the lines of what @Poppa Bear just said: The Bayou 150 grain semi-wadcutters I'm currently shooting? They all weigh 145.0-147.5 and that could be a painful fact to discover at a match. I always do my PF calculations using a projectile weight I measure myself, and not with the manufacturer's data.
  16. There are three variables that make this a tough answer: 1. The variation from gun to gun. It's a factor, but the smallest one. 2. What parts you have installed in the gun. Various hammers, firing pins, disconnectors, and which firing pin return spring. Those all matter, along with how well it's polished and how your firing pin block is fit. A gun with a bolo won't hit as hard in DA, but if it's fit with a Titan hammer and the PD firing pin and spring, that all seems to more than balance out. Additionally, how well your gun is polished and lubed matters. So does a properly fit firing pin block and having the chamber reamed. 3. Ammo quality. What kind of reloading press do you use, and which brand of primer? A CCI absolutely buried .008" below flush on a 1050 will go off more easily than a Winchester than is only flush with the back of the case. A gun like mine with a Titan and Bolo and all the other sexy parts will run on a spring as likely as the 12 pound PD spring with Winchester primers... if a press is used which buries in the primer pockets without any variation. However I load on a 650, and they don't seat primers that consistently - along with there being no method for adjustment. I also load CCI Magnum primers which are very hard. Consequently, I use the EGD Medium which is a 16.5lb spring.
  17. More importantly, check the ammo first. Use the ability of the calipers to measure hole depth at the butt end of the handle to see how deeply these primers are seated. If they're .005" down or deeper, a PD 14 should set them off. If they're higher than that, you'll need more hammer spring to both fully seat the primer and detonate it.
  18. Done. Thanks. I didn't realize it would wear that quickly in minor, had only heard it happening rapidly to those shooting Major.
  19. Minimum shopping list I recommend: 1. Front sight of your choice. 2. Single piece sear from EAA (Xtreme not needed) 3. Conefit guide rod (EGD or Henning) 4. Hammer spring to match the ammo you'll run. (Patriot or EGD) 5. Wolff recoil spring (6 8 or 10lbs in 9 minor) 6. Patriot Defense springs: Trigger, sear, firing pin springs Additional hotness not strictly needed: 1.CGW trigger pin for the Canik pistols. 2.Titan Hammer & BOLO Disconnector 3. Wolff extra power extractor spring
  20. I am the expert. ...which means I did the same thing four months ahead of you, and caught it when taking the gun apart and seeing new wear marks and looking at how it operates. You're welcome for the tip! Polishing up the underside of the sear cage made no difference I could measure in pull weight, but did make the trigger even smoother. I think too much emphasis is given to the pull weights because they can be measured as posted as objective numbers. A smooth, crisp trigger is huge. A light one is nice. Tanfos can be really really shootable with a 7.5lb DA pull if that weight comes from being fully polished and running heavy springs.
  21. The videos are up. This will definitely sell a Stock II/III user on it after watching me pop mine in, and having to hammer the roll pin into theirs with a prolific amount of swearing as they follow along.
  22. No expenses were spared in the making of this blockbuster epic... I mean come on guys. Look at this lighting! Now tell me what I missed, or what you do differently.
  23. I just finished a 4 part series on YouTube totaling 48min 25 sec in length. Take a look at tell me what you think. For the newbies to the platform, this gun seems intimidating at first. Hopefully this series will change that - they're no harder to work on than your Glock or M&P, there are simply pins to drive in and out... and more steps to the process. For those of you familiar with the platform - let me know what I might have left out, or what you do differently! Tanfo Tuning Part 1: Disassembly Tanfoglio Tuning Part 2: Polishing Basics Tanfoglio Tuning Part 3: Polishing and Assembly Tanfoglio Tuning Part 4: Final Assembly & Testing
  24. I'll have a video up by noon tomorrow that shows how much wiggle it creates in the trigger, by the way.
