  1. As far as safety, I'm personally quite happy with him, or I'd certainly not consider stating him so young. I've been doing USPSA and IDPA since 2007 and have been swept by unsafe shooters often enough already, thank you. He's more cautious and less complacent than half of the adult novices I've RO'd... not that that's saying much. Making him recite the four laws of gun safety from memory each time he was allowed to hold or shoot was a good move. I suggest it to anyone who asks me.
  2. If he gets into it I'll probably have to slap a Pac Lite upper on it, or whichever mkII 22/45 lightweight option is currently the way to go, in order to shave weight off of it. Mostly because I've always wanted an excuse to drop money into that gun. It has a Marvel trigger and that's about it.
  3. @TA338 that's in reference to the major caliber guns for Limited (Standard) primarily though, correct? Or are the 9mm guns seeing issues after tens of thousands of rounds too?
  4. Currently have him working with a 22/45 and a small cheap red to get his feet wet. He's safe and respectful of firearms, and absolutely loves ringing steel. Aside from ensuring the child in question has amassed proper gun handling skills and is strong enough to hold & reload the gun for 5 strings, what else should I consider? Is there an age requirement in steel challenge? From those of you who have started a junior shooter off in SC... what should I consider?
  5. Well hurry up and start selling them, so I can see them in person, man!
  6. I'm about to start the girlfriend's kid on steel challenge courses. He's 8 and will wear steel out all day long with my Ruger 22/45 with a cheap red dot mounted on it.
  7. A Stock 2/3 really needs, IMO: One piece sear. Front sight Cone fit rod Springs and polishing ...in order to be a good shooter. That's still cheaper than an S2. Can you make it's trigger shorter and crisper in lines with a tuned CZ from Automatic Accuracy or CZCustom? Sure. And...Of course you'll come out ahead on the Tanfo as long as we're discussing having a shop do the CZ work, and DIY on the Tanfoglio. Theyre both great guns. Pick one and play.
  8. Smaller magazines too, though. CZs are easier to reload than Tanfoglios.
  9. I like @TennJeep1618's setup, except for the audio quality - which is a common problem with that unit and most of the others, like GoPros. It also seems to flop around a lot when he's running. That said, it has good video quality and isn't fisheye. I don't like fisheye units because 1. they make targets look tiny and twice as far away and 2. they make your movement / running look slower because the field of view doesn't change as fast.
  10. I have used a Go Pro and two different Contour cameras in the past. The Pivothead Durango glasses beat them all hands-down. Youtube channels with examples: @waktasz who sells them cheap: https://www.youtube.com/user/waktasz (Production GM) Myself: https://www.youtube.com/user/memphismechanic (Production A)
  11. There's other stuff. But I'll give you a single thing to work on that I saw: Watch the video and focus only the weak hand magazine draw. Look critically at how slowly you draw a magazine from pouch 2 or 3 or 4 while halfway through a long course. You're often ten feet from where you started before you even get the mag to the gun, and you slow your movement down until your loads are done. Compare that to the 2016 national champion, who posts absolute reload porn: Remember. Ignore all the distractions. Compare your magazine draws for speed. That's the first thing I'd fix: if you load faster, you will run faster.
  12. You might like the Shadow 1 more than the 2 then. Apparently they've made the grip a bit bigger, at least in feel. More large-frame Tanfo like.
  13. I have 18,000 CCI Small Pistol Magnums for the exact same reason. Believe me, I get "making do with what you have!" Otherwise I'd be running Winchesters on a 13lb PD spring and enjoying an even sexier trigger. And for the record, a Tanfo with all the goodies will set even CCI Magnum SP primers off 100% with an EGW Medium spring. So it really will eat anything.
  14. You have patience for handcrafting your ammo that I never will, my friend. Much respect. My loading regimen is more like: clunka-clunka-Dillon 650-clunka-clunka measurewhatnow?-clunka-clunka
  15. Also not that it changes anything... but was this intentional, in your opinion?
  16. If you shoot Production you have to position your holster an all mag carriers behind your hipbones. Holster has to be a traditional enclosed type. In Limited you can run mags and holster anywhere you want, and use a race holster. The stuff you have is also level, it just isn't as "racy" as what the other guys will use. IMO, run your current holster and mag pouches, load a few mags up with 15 rounds and shoot Limited Minor. You're not looking to set the world on fire. Just have fun and be safe, and 16 rounds in the gun is a lot easier to plan around than 11. Often you'll only do 1 or 2 mag changes, whereas 3 or 4 is common in Production.
  17. As far as running with one, well I mean he IS the first PCC National Champion, but I've never seen anyone run as fast as Max does. Even with a pistol. And I agree on the sweeping issue. More people need to adopt this technique of resting the stock up on top of their shoulder instead of dipping the muzzle down and keeping the whole gun in front:
  18. Hmm. My .140 x .100 is loose again. This is the second time. With red loctite. Might be the perfect excuse to go thinner.
  19. Who has the .090? When I bought mine, even Dawson didn't list anything thinner than 100. I assume this is new?
  20. Max Michel was not as accurate as our Korean friend, but was 45 seconds faster. I think I know what @hwansikcjswo is going to be spending his practice time improving after this match... I look forward to seeing you hauling butt like Max Leograndis in 2018!
  21. Congratulations Hwansik! Loved the video on YouTube of the clean run on stage 20 with all the long shots.
