  1. Definitely plunk and spin. Overly long ammo could somehow be contributing to your issue, and will usually cause relialbity issues in other ways, but I've seen stranger things. No matter what, shoving the bullet into the rifling with the slide as it cycles is less than ideal. It won't chamber as consistently as ammo that drops in freely. Let us know if you had to shorten the load to be able to drop it into the barrel and have it spin freely, and what your max OAL turned out to be.
  2. Unrelated topic: Do those fit in an unreamed barrel, or did you have the chamber lengthened? I've heard blue bullets are good for loading long, but plunk and spin on a 135 at that length would be REALLY impressive with an unmodified barrel!
  3. Nothing like doing a slide-lock load then immediately ejecting that mag to get back up to 11, is there? Makes the new guys who just came from IDPA look at you really funny.
  4. In both sports you load to 10+1. In USPSA you try to change mags before you go empty, almost all of the time. I was referring to intentionally shooting the gun empty in USPSA, where we normally avoid it. Something like taking 3 downrange poppers after shooting four papers in order to not have to run to another position to shoot them later (where the course designer expected you to do so) etc. The kinds of stage plans most people wouldn't usually consider because we always stop counting at 10.
  5. And while you're ordering springs, I'd convert the gun to the extra-power extractor spring if I were you. I'd say it made a huge difference in my gun, but I installed all the aftermarket goodies at once after just 100 or so rounds through the gun.
  6. More details on your load or which brand of ammo, please. I have yet to hear of someone adjusting the ejector in a 9.
  7. That's the extractor. No spring involved with the ejector. What caliber? What specific issue are you having? (Light 9 or .40 won't eject and you get jams, or you're shooting a hot .40 and casings end up two zip codes to your right?) Factory ammo or light power-factor reloads? What weight is the recoil spring in your gun... see where I'm going with this?
  8. Buy whatever you can afford the most of. That's probably a 115gr load. You'll get better shooting through a full pallet of 5,000 rounds, than puttig that money into designer 147gr ammo which you're reluctant to just go to the range and burn through.
  9. He's probably shooting IDPA if he's this concerned about it... And even in USPSA being comfortable to push to 11 can open up some really interesting Production stage plans, if you're willing to fly without a net. I've deleted an entire shooting position once or twice by doing that.

  11. At 6ish feet it works just fine. Just hit the range at an awkward time where others won't be packing the place. (Your average gun owner in the next lane over is well capable of missing a full yard laterally at 6 feet.)
  12. They won't let you send just the safety in and mail a replacement? Sad. Also typical of EAA.
  13. Set up an ordinary prochrono digital with the indoor light screens on it. You will need an extension cord to plug the light bulb into. Every bit as consistent for me at the local indoor range as shooting through it outside on an overcast day.
  14. Well we all start out pretty cautious when asembing our own explosive devices (loading ammo is basically that) if we're smart about it. Over time my personal desire to spend the absolute minimum amount of time in front of a press and as much time as possible shooting matches with it has led me to realize which details matter, and which horrific tolerances are actually just fine when it comes to "it shoots safe & groups well, just run it" specifications. Again, some guys enjoy crafting ammo and take deep satisfaction from it. For me, it's just a necessary evil.
  15. If you're buying 16 pounds of powder, 20k primers, and 6,000-9,000 bullets at a time, buying local becomes the act which is impossible to justify. The price discount online with ACME or blue bullets and a good cheap power / primer selection from powder valley are impossible to equal in your local stores. Most of us here shoot enough to make the volume discounts more than worth the hazmat... if you roll your primer and powder orders into one haz fee by picking them up from the same place.
  16. I don't know anyone who shoots one brand of brass at locals or in practice. I cull stepped cases and crimped foreign headstamps. The rest gets loaded and shot. This is what the vast majority of USPSA shooters do. It'll shoot a 1.5-2" group at 25yd through my Tanfoglio. That's good enough for me unless I'm headed to an Area match or Nationals. Analogy alert: Some guys like crafting the perfect beer. Most of us think it's more fun to drink. When the former guy pops up online in the ammo topics, don't feel guilty for being the latter.
  17. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BFVCGU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RlszzbS9AGJB3 Green is the brightest and most popular color. The factory PRO sight uses .060" diameter filament. Aftermarket sights like my Dawson front use a different size FO filament. Do not get cleaning solvents on the fiber - it'll melt and become brittle. That's the usual way they die early. So wet a rag and use it to scrub the slide. Don't hose down it's exterior.
  18. You might find this very helpful... My gun chambers a round perfectly now, 100% of the time, with the amount of force I usually use to seat a magazine during a speed load. No slamming or angled whacking required. This works on almost any gun. (Also, almost all 9mm Glocks do indeed do this. With a full mag. And some serious force involved.)
  19. Suggestion to fix problem AND make you realize how much faster you can get the gun out of a holster hanger that isn't limp and floppy... (The blade tech drop hanger is both flaccid and angles the gun outward from your body. An inconsistent ergonomic nightmare.) http://benstoegerproshop.com/bsps-boss-doh-holster-hanger-hanger-mount-only/ Your holster body will bolt right to it. And you'll spend a far more comfortable day at the range. Using the standard spacers my Stock 3 is about 1.5" from my belt - well within the rules.
  20. Here in the South I find showing up properly hydrated - and staying that way - to be the biggest thing you can do to improve how you shoot after several hours on the range. Watch next time you're at a match on a hot day: most of the guys will drink so little they'll never use the bathroom. If you don't have to piss, you're dehydrated. On a really hot day that can mean 6 big water bottles being sucked down. Or even more. I try to empty my water bottle on every stage, and I find that makes a huge difference. I like to eat the usual things I would otherwise eat: High protein, moderate carbs mostly from a rice or vegetables and not from bread, eggs and veggies for breakfast, a protein shake in my cooler for the range. Almonds or other fat sources for snackfood on the range. Perhaps a protein bar or two.
  21. 1. Are you loading on a Dillon 650 by any chance? 2. For your major, locate some Winchester primers. Those of us with extensive experience tuning a DA gun like a CZ or Tanfoglio can tell you how massive the difference is between those two brands. I need two and a half pounds (that's a whole lot) more hammer spring to ignite a CCI primer than I do a Winchester. Yes, Federal are the softest primers. But Winchesters are closer to Federals than they are CCIs. CCI is noticeably harder than either of those. If you don't have time to test and tune your gun enough to have confidence in a CCI-friendly setup... find some Winchester primers and don't change anything about the gun.
  22. I agree that a Glock 35 in Limited sounds like the most compatible merging of your preferences for a handgun, and the sport you enjoy shooting. As long as you don't mind shooting iron sights. If you want to keep the dot... If you're willing to reinstall the factory trigger and throw a thousand rounds downrange and do some serious dryfire work, however, you'll find that your aftermarket triggers are a mental want and not a physical need.
  23. A hit to the center of the star with a hot load from a shotgun does pose some advantages.
  24. Define distracted in this context. You end up simply focusing on the entire big brown thing? You look at the shiny white noshoot instead? Hey, look, Squirrel!
  25. http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_3437261_-1?gclid=CITjiI6OgdUCFd64wAodqbIJtQ $40. More comfortable to a foot that's halfway between D and E widths than (I'm "semi wide" if that's a thing)... And they come in plain ol' gray. There are two colors to choose from on that site. Terrific traction for the price and they run true to size.
