  1. Thank God for a match that will do Single Gun stages! Multigun has too many multigun stages IMHO. Wish I could have attended, maybe in 2018!
  2. All I'm going to say is this: that was one of the best 3 gun events that I've ever attended. It was better than SOF and rivaled North American Tactical, Ft. Benning, and the BEST of the Blue Ridge and SMM3G matches
  3. Luke, let go of your hate. And don't worry about me, I've got my SOF legal mag pouches BACK FROM WHEN I SHOT SOF!!!!!! Kyle Lamb also ran a tactical match back in the day and he didn't require specific mag pouches but heck what does he know? The stages will test your gear and I'm sure they will as I've shot Eric Miller/Jimmy Holdsworth matches before. "Frozen in amber" keeps getting used as it is 100% accurate. But you're correct, nothing has changed since 1999. We shouldn't even shoot JP rifles at this JP sponsored event. We should all get Steyr AUGs or stock M4s with an ACOGs or Aimpoints b/c that is the way it is in the "real world." And M9 Berettas or if you made it thru OTC, then a .40 Glock or (if you're old enough) a 1911 with Wilson 10 rd magazines. Anything else is not "real world." Like a Safariland AR mag pouch. That's WAY out.
  4. I'm pretty sure that Resurgence won't be just like any other 3 gun match. The facility and stage designers will see to that. But I, for one, welcome our new rules. Frozen in amber rules from 1999 just don't make a lot of sense given the last 17 years of development of tactical gear (15 years of which have been at war) and competition gear.
  5. DeltaPro (not the old Delta point) or if you're really feelin spendy a Leupold LCO.
  6. I'll play. The best all around optic for Z-Day would be a low powered variable bar none. RDS are great up close but tales of 200-300-400 yard shooting are always done on conspicuous targets not on hidden targets in the shadows. Is that guy 250 m away a threat? A zombie? A friend? Ever shoot at a deer in the brush at 150 w/ a RDS? Pretty low percentage shot. I think that overcomes an RDS black reticle on black cloth advantage. RDS are no doubt fastest up close but I'll shoot a variable on 1X, 95% as good as a RDS inside of 25 but an RDS is no where near 95% of a 6X optic at 300 m on an indistinct target in the shade or a target at even 50 in the dark. I will take massive increase in visual info that a variable offers over the minute speed that a RDS gets you. So make it a mil grade variable power scope as a 1st choice (Leupold Mk6/8, Steiner, VCOG, Kahles), mil grade fixed power as 2nd choice (ACOG, HAMR), civilian variables as 3rd and RDS as 4th. Of course, Z-Day is open/stealth class so multiple optics are in play!
  7. Huh? When did we sneaky locals get to walk the semi-surprise stages? I guess I didn't get that memo. Great match guys. Thanks to the hard-working staff and generous sponsors. Nice to see some standards. Congrats to the winners who really threw down some solid shooting. I enjoyed Stealth division, it was interesting to see everyone's decisions about gear. Bipod? RDS on pistol? RDS on shotgun? My only quibble would be that Stage 9 and 11 really punished any Heavy shooters who chose 1X rifle and pump shotgun.
  8. You can't even OPERATE without a folding stock. Well that's what Leatham told me
  9. Leupold VX6 1-6X with CMR reticle OR (wait for it...) the new BDC reticle with the daylight visible dot which you all find so important. Good enuff for Horner, good enuff for you. (I still like the CMR reticle).
  10. I have to spend ALL day with Eric??? We will talk SOF rules, it will be great!
  11. And I love the "Be A Man Among Men" Rhodesian Army recruiting motif on the webpage. Talk about trigger warnings and safe spaces - that's as un-PC as it gets!
  12. While I was lacing my underwear, sipping my chamomile tea, watching Downtown Abbey and knitting a sweater, I was thinking "what is the purpose of requiring buckshot on a target that can be knocked down with birdshot?" Oh Robert K. Brown said it should be so.
  13. Some quibbles: 1) The 5 in max pistol barrel rule is from a time before the long slide Glock which is issued by many a SWAT team. I think the rule should be modified to allow for longer barreled pistols. 2) Why oh why require buckshot on steel knock down targets? I'm ok with buckshot on paper or even buckshot steel plates but why make the competitors knock down pepper poppers etc at 3-4X the cost of birdshot. Can't wait to attend though.
  14. You're going to have to share Limited with me, StealthyBlagga!!!!!!! And I don't share.
  15. I will defend Stage 2. It's nice to have some real standards in a 3 gun match. It ain't all about running and gunning.
  16. An impossible question at the end of the day - particularly when you talk rifle and shotgun. I would REALLY like to say IPSC World Shoots but the fact is that Americans "don't do IPSC" and foreign competitors (primarily but not exclusively Europeans) don't do outlaw/3 Gun Nation/etc. etc. So at the IPSC world shoots, competitors who only shoot IPSC have an advantage as that is the format that they constantly shoot. At non-IPSC "World Championships", American have the advantage as that is the format that they constantly shoot. I love outlaw 3 gun events and I also love the international IPSC events that I've been too. But there are major differences. At every international IPSC event that I've been to, my main concern is NOT the shooting, it's not getting DQ'd. And I'm sure that the awesome foreign shooters who come to the U.S. for non-IPSC events have felt similar differences. Example #1: In my experience, IPSC shotgun events require a level of precision totally beyond what most Americans are used to. On the other hand, American shotgunners are used to speeds, ammo management (i.e. different types of shotshells on the same stage), and varied target presentations (aerial targets, slugs and knock down steel all on the same stage) that IPSC competitors are not used to. Example #2: IPSC rifle rifle events require a level of precision beyond what most American shooters are used to ON THE PAPER TARGETS with Americans' SLOPPY 2 hits anywhere scoring. In IPSC, you'd better be shooting As, something your typical American 3 gunner does not even think about. On the other hand, American 3 Gun does not stop at 300 m for the LR targets, nowadays 400-500 is expected. But again, the safety rules are dramatically different. If one is not used to IPSC, it is very easy to DQ. So until we are all shooting under the same banner, it will be hard to crown a World Champion. FYI this is not to disparage any of the competitors involved in any of these events. Unlike many Americans, I am WELL AWARE of the awesome shooting skills of many of our foreign competitors. I love being an American but if that doesn't work out, maybe Finland will let me in.
  17. Two contradictory questions from Blue Ridge 2015: 1) Q to Kelly or Daniel H: What choke would Kurt Miller use? A: Light mod 2) Q to Kelly or Daniel H: What choke are you using on this stage? A (depending on stage): cylinder, IC, light mod, mod. Of course, Blue Ridge is "special." Some match I never change chokes (all IC or skeet all the time), some I change every stage. And yes, I've spent some time on the patterning board with different kinds of ammo.
  18. All I can say is wow. Thanks Andy, crew and sponsors, that was one heck of a match.
