  1. That's a pretty sweet garage setup you have going there. I'm quite jealous. I think my neighbor condo owners would freak out if they saw me doing that in the community parking garage! I've always had a question about Steve Anderson's dryfire books. How can you reset the trigger for each shot of the par time drills? I guess your notecard trick is one way to achieve some trigger movement. Keep up the good work! mattk
  2. I would like to second Bruce Gray's work. I have two P226s that he's setup for competition purposes. Both have shortened resets. Bruce's reset is as short, if not shorter than SiGARMS' SRT they are now producing. In addition to being shorter, Bruce's reset doesn't disable the firing pin safety between each shot like the SRT does. Bruce also does a feed and reliablity package. As far as the trigger pull weights go, I'd say the DA is roughly 7 lbs and the SA is roughly 4 lbs. mattk
  3. I shoot factory 9mm ammunition out of my Sig P226. I chrono'd 115gr Federal American Eagle a couple months back at 127.7. At the Area 1 match a few weeks back I was shooting 115gr Blazer Aluminum which chrono'd at 128.6. I'm hoping to play around with some handloads during the winter months. A friend gave me some of his IPSC World Shoot ammo and I'd like to duplicate it. mattk
  4. I used this one yesterday in a local match. Lots of negative comments by the shooters on this one. Oops. As for me, I suffered to prop induced malfunctions. The slide doesn't like to run when it bumps into things, like say the cross bar. I did it on back to back shots from the low left port. Oops. This one's not going to count. mattk
  5. I think we can safely blame that one on the pink hat... Dusty rose, Matt, dusty rose . . . Whatever makes you guys feel comfortable wearing pink hats! mattk
  6. Not to rain on your parade, but are you becoming a master of the IDPA Classifier and not an IDPA Master? Shooting the Classifier over and over again seems a little bizarre to me. In my opinion the IDPA Classifier requires a different set of skills than are required in the typical local IDPA match, at least the 30 or so IDPA matches I've participated in. There is no doubt in my mind that a shooter with the skills to win an IDPA match will also classify well, I've seen it done. What I have yet to see is a shooter who practices the IDPA Classifier relentlessly and can win an IDPA match. Unfortunately, I don't have as many data points for this idea. I think that would be an interesting study. Get two new shooters and give them different practice goals. Tell one shooter to achieve a Master classification by shooting the IDPA Classifier. Tell the other shooter to win IDPA matches by practicing whatever they felt they needed to practice. At the end of the study, have both shooters shoot the IDPA Classifier and then shoot an IDPA match. I think a comparison of the final results would be interesting. mattk

  8. Yes, so long as the new addition doesn't put you over the weight limit associated with CDP. Lots of people use them, so I doubt it adds too much weight. mattk
  9. The IDPA classifier doesn't require the use of a concealment garment, the rulebook states it. As for hand and body positions, Lee exaggerated them more than I've ever seen. I'm not really sure how much it really gained him. The IDPA classifier is 90 rounds. You really only need two magazines, a few more are handy. mattk
  10. Don't let EP fool you. He's shot the IDPA on two different occasions achieving a Master time. He's also being far too humble. My money is on him for tomorrow's state match. He's shooting like a man of fire recently. TomD is a Master in CDP, according to past match results. I think Sandy is a Master in both CDP and ESP. I'm no where close to achieving Master. mattk
  11. The pistol division will be Custom Defensive Pistol, CDP, and your shooting classification will be Unclassified. mattk
  12. Duane, Are you posting while drunk or high again? A mainspring contributes to felt recoil, that's an interesting theory... mattk
  13. You can shoot anything but revolver. My suggestion would be to shoot Production or Limited 10. Your 12 round P229 magazines will put you at a huge disadvantage against the Limited and Open guys, among other things. If you shoot L10 you can be scored Major because you're shooting .40S&W. If you shoot Production, everyone is scored Minor. Your P229 is probably most suited for Production. In either division you will be loading your magazines to 10 rounds.
  14. I may be seeing things, but it sort of looks like you're hitting the mag release with your trigger finger. Is that correct? Those were definetly some superhuman reloads. Someday I hope to have that ability. Any chance you could make some new reloading videos with your Production gear? Thanks! mattk
  15. I agree, Alan shot a great match. Too bad for him though, this is as close to his award as he'll get! I knew you guys were close, but who knew you were that close. mattk
  16. That was my stage. Is it appropriate to ask a shooter to take a step backward before giving "If finished" command? On my Area 1 stage, the shooters ended up with their pistols extended beyond the left side of a wall. For right handed shooters I would stand on their right side and they would be doing their unloading procedure in a pretty tight spot, between the shooter and a wall. I started asking the shooters to take a step backward to increase the space between the wall. After the step backward I would give the IF command. Was this bad? mattk
  17. Today was absolutely gorgeous in Seattle. Mid 75's, after the morning fog cleared the skies were nearly cloudless. It's fixing to be a beautiful week. I'm getting excited! mattk
  18. I got mine as well. It'll go out in tomorrow's mail. mattk
  19. At the matches I run, you only get one shot at the classifier. I try to pick classifiers that haven't been used much or recently in the section. When I first became a match director, I thought I would be able to pick a classifier then practice it a few times before the actual match. My plan hasn't worked out so well. Generally when we're finished up with three hours of setup I want to go home and put my feet up. mattk
  20. At the match I put on yesterday, I had the shooters do three unloaded starts out of seven stages. On one stage I used the Mini-Mart table and shelf prop. The gun started on the shelf and all ammo to be used was on the table top. I made a shooting box that was roughly the size of the table that the shooters were confined to. Another stage had the gun on a barrel about two yards downrange of the shooter who was facing uprange with all ammo on their belt. The last stage had the pistol in the holster with all ammo to be used on a table downrange of the start position. This was a 26 round field course, so shooters had to grab a couple of magazines and stow them before engaging the targets. mattk
