  1. Go for it... Take you time, shoot A's, look and learn ask questions(but be careful of the guys who really get their heads into shooting a stage.. especially right before they shoot also ask questions of people who are in your division the advice you get from someone shooting open may not be the same as someone shooting production....eg I plan to shoot T-1 thru T8 on the move then shoot the activator and 2 plates then the swinger and the max trap target do a reload and pickup the last 6 paper targets... this may be a little different then someone shooting Prod or L-10 or Rev would do it. Shoot it , be safe, have fun bring, lots of ammo and look around here for tips for preparing for a big match... Joe
  2. I'd wait and save my money.. get the SDB or the 550. I have 10's of thousands thru my 550 and it still keeps a ticking. If you are in a real hurry try selling some blood.. or maybe a Kidney....hell of you sell a Kidney you could probably afford a 650 Joe
  3. I believe that you remove the insert for use with STI/SVI and leave it in for Para's and others. You might also try the Safariland website. On my 012 I just remove the tensioning screw and pop out the insert when I use my STI, I replace it when I shoot the PARA. Good Luck, Joe
  4. I like Solo 1000 with bullets over 200 grain, at 200 grain and lower Solo 1250 is just as clean and performs very well.
  5. I have been running aa#2 for a few years now shooting hard cast 200 grain bulletts, no issues with power factor, or pressure. The loads are VERY consistant and predictable. Good Luck, be Safe & use a Chrono...
  6. + 1 more on the EGW U and Lee Factory Crimp. Works every time .. very consistent... Joe
  7. I am not a gunsmith or a gunsmiths son but... couldn't you just us a round or 1/2 round file and remove a little plastic from the C-more just slotting the holes enough to get the screws in ? That way no welding.. and no problems finishing the frame...just put it all together with a little blue locktite and all is well. Just my $.02
  8. Both of my Para's and my SF 1911 fit my 012 no problems at all... For my STI I have to remove that little block on the side.
  9. See if you can find a used or rebuilt HP 880 or 895 maybe a 960. All will work with windows 98/2000/XP. http://www.superwarehouse.com/inkjet_printers.cfm Try this place or google up used/refurbished printers. Good Luck Joe
  10. Wowsers... can I get it in a matt black finish to match my mil-spec
  11. + 1 for not drilling... if it really bothers you .... get a little BONDO and some silver touchup paint....
  12. I have walked away from jobs like that ....The customer wants to cleanup the closet .. can have no down time/service interuptions...and no budget.... There is nothing like having a wire closet/MDF/IDF wired to industry standards... And I have seen much much much worse....
  13. If you are on a budget and want something pretty reliable, get yourself a Mil-Spec Springfied, add the basics, AMBIES, Grip Safety, Trigger Job and Bomars, Guide Rod That would put you near a grand, and you would have a little control of how it went together. Joe
  14. +1 What everybody else said... USE a Chrono!!!!!! and use some sense
  15. Slide Glide & a 14# spring... sounds like a winner, you might want to consider a ISMI spring and pay attention to how to fit it. I have a Mil Spec SF that have 25000 rounds thru it and slide glide makes it just wonderfully. Good Luck Joe
  16. +1 What everyone else said. Shoot as much as you can, Join the USPSA, cut your teeth at local matches, shoot section/area matches whenever you can. Nothing & I repeat nothing gets you up to speed faster then actually competing. Practice, take notes, read Brians book, talk to and listen to experienced shooters. FWIW There are a lot more small matches around then big matches and in general you are more likely to get better & more information from the better shooters at a local club then someone who is involved in shooting a major match. Good luck, & Shoot Safe Joe
  17. Hmmmm let me think about this a second...... "Entry fee = $250 Airline ticket =$627 (RT/Wash DC) Rental Car = $285 local gas cost = $125 Lodging = $488 Food @$30/day= $150 maybe more Ammo (9mm) = $36 sub total =$2021 Play....@ $100/day = $500 Shirt =$30 Hat =$12 sub total = $542 $2563 for 10 minutes of actual shooting" Competing at the US National Championships with the Best in the Word = Priceless I won't be able to make it this year but if possible I'll shoot for 2008. Joe
  18. LOL no, not bad photography, just fingerprints I decided not to buff out...
  19. Yupper.... Crappy cold blue looks like that.....I put off getting it finished till I could decide what I really wanted. The slide and the frame were about as bad as they ever got in the pics.
  20. Got it back yesterday Looks great feels great.... Picts included....I can't wait to start shooting it Great job Virgil & Team,
  21. I am expecting my STI to come back from Tripp this week...I post some before and afters as soon as I get the gun back...
  22. For 255 LRNFP's 3.6 Solo 1000 Fed 150's 1.185 LOA Soft shooting, always makes major, very consistant. For 200 LSWC 5.8 Solo 1250 Fed 150s 1.250 LOA Another soft shooting major load. They make major in all of my 45's, Use some sense, USE a Chrono..
