  1. Instead of cutting the top of the diamond off, why not just buy the regular rear notch, they take about 5 mins to swap out. If you can't find one online, I have a spare
  2. +1 on the match DQ, several years ago while working an area match I had a guy start to pull his gun as he stepped into the start box, I yelled stop before he cleared his holster, I got him and myself settled down gave him the quick little lecture and went on to run him. Now, when I am working a match I try to keep people out of the start box/position till I am ready for them.
  3. Dude, I've been doing that for 10 years, I keep spare recoil/fireing pin/main springs, sear springs, front sights, & screws & pins for my bomars, recoil buffers, small tools etc....FP-10 1 oz bottle. I was watching a stage at nationals when a guy had a problem with his 1911, probably a bad recoil buffer, he came off the stage asking if anyone had a allen wrench so he could remove his guide rod, he as shocked when I opened my little tool box and handed him the wrench he needed, I may not be able to shoot very well but I'll be damned if a 30 cent part is going to take me out of a match..
  4. I'll bet he started with " Hey ya'll watch this"...usually preceeds the sudden demise of the genetically challenged. All things being equal in this world this idiot will either take himself out of the gene pool shortly ot hit a 200 Million Dollar Powerball. This is how the universe works... Joe
  5. You migth try good old Brownells.... Purchase on line and never leave you house.
  6. Congrats Steve, The next time I see you I will buy you a cigar I guess all of that practice this year helped out
  7. What is your chrono telling you ?
  8. I've been shooting Solo 1000 for maybe 10 years...nice clean burning, consistant and meters well in a dillon powder measure. Here you go all loads using Solo 1000 and FED 150's 255 LRNFP's 3.6 LOA 1.190 in a 5" 1911 Should get you about 670 FPS or so 230's Lead 4.2 LOA 1.250 in a 5" 1911 Should get you about 800 FPS or so 200's LSWC 4.2 - 4.7 1.250 in a 5" 1911 SHould get you around 890 FPS or so Another great powder for lighter bullet weights(200, 185, 175, 155) from Solo in Solo 1250. 200's LSWC 5.5-6.0 LOA 1.25 in a 5" 1911 Should get you around 885 at tops. Use a chrono and your head and keep notes on you data.
  9. + 1 what everyone else said. And use a chrono, take notes and use your head
  10. AM shooting a .95 rear & .95 front on all of my 1911's takes a little getting used to but works out nice for me.
  11. And yet I've never seen a fat monkey... how strange is that ? If I had to climb a tree for a snack everytime I was hungry I wouldn't be carrying this extra 30 lbs. Hmmmm there 's a 2 lb box of Oreos and a gallon of milk at the top of that tree.....how hungry am I ? Or how about a nice slab of Prime Rib (medium rare) w/ mushrooms & baked potatoes and a nice bottle of a Cabernet 65' up in that OAK tree....hey hun I think we'll eat in tonigth Joe
  12. I have had one for 10 years, I also have one of the backpack type(Nice if you are at a range where you do a lot of walking. No problems with zippers or stitching.
  13. 5.6- 6.1 of Solo 1250 with Fed 150's 1.250 LSWC firm crimp, shoot soft, doesn't smoke alot, shoots clean, Trying now loads.. use a CHRONO!! it is the only way to really know what your loads are doing.. Joe
  14. Hey Tony, I had this happen to me with a Combat Conmmander over 20 years ago. I had a poof...racked the slide, and a strange bang, and actually heard 2 bullet strikes on the steel plate I was shooting at . Now for the rest of the story....slide stuck after ejecting the fired case, did not run all the way back, would not close, I had to beat the slide closed with a hammer and a piece of wood, pulled the bushing/recoil spring, removed the slide, found a barrell bulged about midway, no other appearent damage, that being said I believe I was shooting some pretty light loads behind 200 grain SOFT lead bullets. I had a local gunsmith check it, he replaced the barrell with a storm lake pre-fit.. turned this gun into a tack driver.. I have seen this happen to a friends barrel where it actually bulged to a split in the barrell, this was in a 6"longslide, he uses it for a pull chain on his basement lights (just as a reminder). You should have asked me back in September about this (at the nationals), I was one of the limited guys in your squad Take Care Joe
  15. Can you say locktite Or maybe bigger roll pin... What do you think Benny
  16. Hey Carina, Pass the chips please.
  17. Give me a day or so , I have some older Solo 1000 data from accurate Arms. Joe
  18. I use it in my 40. 200 Grn lead hardcast. 4.3 - 4.5 of AA2 makes major at 1.190 LOA Burns clean..shoots soft...very consistant..
  19. Slide Glide & FP-10.....is all you need.....hell I even no someoone who brushes their teeth with slide glide
  20. Who ever said.."Once you shoot you will Never go back" ? I started out shooting standard bomars... switched to FO's when they came out .. way cool..possibly better transitions....got picked on and explained the facts of life by Todd J. switched to . 095 bomars front and rear.... haven't looked back...of course finding sight black locally is kind of fun...especially when the guys at the gun shop sell 1 case a year between 2 or 3 of us locally Take Care
  21. Sounds all too familiar guys... I make it a HABIT now that when I finish a stage... ALL of the mags I used get dumped in my range bag...and before I go to another stage I take a few seconds to reload all of them....NO partially full mags go on the belt...NEVER.....pockets..mouth...underarms.....but NOT on the belt...actually there is just one time... when I have to shoot a standards or classifer stage , or Virginia count w/mandetory reloads with one of my hi-caps, I will usually strip a few rounds off the top to ease reloads...but they started out FULL.... And yes I learned this lesson the hard way.... Take Care
  22. I shot a match several years ago where you had to reach into the plywood rear-end of a painted cow and help deliver a calf... which had a rope attached ... which activated a set of swingers...... This was of course after saving you amish friends from the radical femist
  23. I have a 10 year old Midway, where I have started it and left it running for 2-3 days ....real shiney brass....it takes a licking and keeps on ticking...
  24. One from the cheap seats.... maybe 2. I was shooting on a local outdoor/public range while the guys 2-3 lanes over were playing with their new black powder revolver... After the first 2- 3 shots went something like POP........2 second delay... DING.... one friend says to the other how much powder did you use....shooter responds I used X grains.... buddy suggests 3 X grains...hmmmmm... whats gonna happen next.... Don't know... packed up toys tols RO to stay safe and have a nice day... Another time at the same range I had the place to myself ... RO looked a little beat ... I started shooting after a few mins, I was warming up a little and I sort of forgot about their rule about "No Rapid Fire" ie no faster then one shot per second......I was doing Bill Drills and dbl taps..& reloads..... when I took a break looked behind me and saw the RO was watching me.....at that point I realized he was going to talk to me about my Bill Drills ....all he did was smile and tell me to keep on doing what I was doing...I was the first person shooting that day who wasn't bouncing shots off the walls, the floor, the ceiling baffles or the sides of the shooting bays!!!! I have since joined a private club where the only think I have to worry about is the local law enforcement types practicing their SWAT tactics across the road...
