  1. Ah, thanks. I'm sure there must be a good reason, not that I see it off the top of my head.
  2. Mike was quoted a standard price shipped @ $263 US and a discount to try it over here @ $197 US Too bad group buys are illegal here. I have a deal working on a case of ten that is much cheaper than the numbers you are using. What do you mean group buys are illegal? Illegal on the forum? Illegal according to the government?
  3. Yeah, I'm coming to that same conclusion. C-rums it is... As soon as I actually get to shoot it.
  4. I'm struggling with this too. I have found that if you keep your thumb bent and in line with the axis of the barrel, it decreases the number of times it gets stuck.
  5. Extra cost and they're more front heavy if that's not your thing.
  6. I've been thinking on this problem for the last week since I got my Mossberg 930 JM and figured out that the lifter is a hazard to my thumb and an impediment to efficient loading as it currently stands for ME. I've got an idea for an add on modification that I'm going to put out there for feedback. It's free to whoever wants to try it. I just ask that if you have the machining capabilities and decided to make one and it works out, you make me one too. I'm going to try to get it made myself if it can be done for cheap, as I don't want to mail off my lifter to be welded at this point and once I've got an idea in my head I'd like to know if it will work. My idea is basically a plastic or aluminum snap on cover for the lifter, as there seems to be plenty of clearance around the front and the back of the lifter as well as on the bolt side of the lifter, so long as the attachement is sufficiently thin. I would make it hook onto the back side of the lifter closest to the trigger guard and cover the outside snapping onto the front cutout. I would have it fill in the semicircle cutout and extend the lifter to the same dimensions as welding it would. I would probably have a groove on the outside down the midline to aid direction of the shells. I would probably have the front end angled a bit to assist entry into the tube. It should be doable on a mill from a thin block of delrin or aluminum, just 3-5mm thick. CNC would be best given the rounded shape of the front cut out, but that could be approximated with a 2 axis mill and enough patience. I'd just need to get the rough thickness cut into the block and then undercut with a router type bit to make the hook end and the snap on undercut for the front cutout. If the part is thin enough it should hook on at the back and flex to allow the front to slip/snap on yet still make a tight secure fit. The angle at the front could either me milled into the front shape or bent after everything is done cutting, not sure what would work best. I would also strongly consider a full cut through the midline to allow anyone that wants to mill a cut in their lifter itself to have access to push shells back into the tube, much as c-rums offers with their lifter modifications. People with machining experience, what do you think? Will it work? Suggestions to make it better? If I can't convince anyone else to make it for me, I'll either find a machine shop that doesn't mind letting me tinker or I'll mock it up on emachineshop.com and price it out for them to make a one off version. I think the end product in small batch production could be a less expensive, easy and fast, DIY non-permanent modification that rivals getting it welded without the down time and maybe cheaper.
  7. Congrats on the purchase. You can't go wrong so long as its a blue press. They have some of the best customer service I've ever encountered. Post pics once its setup!
  8. I'll be interested to hear what others say. I've got 1 little girl and another on the way. You might consider .22 for steel challenge as an entry into competitive shooting. Revolver for USPSA/IDPA should definitely be a consideration for ease of mastering the equipment. Also if you can load up a mouse fart minor load for .45, that should have less flip and perceived recoil than even minor 9mm I would think. Open class would probably be the most user friendly with slide racker, dot sights, and less muzzle flip to contend with.
  9. As an alternate option, has anyone tried attaching anything to the lifter to bridge the offending gap? I was thinking about cutting a piece of plastic from a flimsy cooking spatula and somehow gluing it to the lifter or some other strategy to affix a plastic or rubber extender to the lifter. Thoughts? Attempts? Pics?
  10. Wow, Mossberg's service leaves a lot to be desired. I called, waited 15min to talk to a rep, and then got put on hold so long it transferred me back to the main line. I wasn't in the mood to wait again. If you call, I recommend you immediately ask the name of who you are speaking to and what their direct line is in case you get disconnected. I wanted to order a spare lifter (carrier?) to send to c-rums. Anyone had success getting this part from Mossberg? Someone should just make an aftermarket lifter for $85-100. I'm sure they would do a decent business. Along the line of aftermarket replacement parts, has anyone tried the replacement follower that midway sells? Any reason other than the stainless/red looks?
  11. Beautiful. I love snakes so long as they aren't venomous in an area where people or pets might get hurt. I used to work in the ER. We saw snake bites on occasion, and every now and then someone would bring in the offending snake. One was a gorgeous copper head that they thankfully had let live. We took it out and let it go in a safe area the next day. I tossed it onto a sandy creek bank and it completely vanished with the camouflage. Anyway, keep up the good shooting and post more when/if able.
  12. Yeah, so I loaded my JM 930 for the first time and couldn't keep my thumb from getting caught even going slow. Has anyone ordered a spare lifter from Mossberg to send to c-rums? I'm not keen on having my shotgun out of commission for a few weeks.
  13. Can anyone suggest what sling adapters suit the JM 930 best? What sling to go with it? I know one of the local 3 guns recommend having a sling for the shotgun and require it for the rifle. Thanks!
  14. You send it to a reputable gunsmith. They'll fit the barrel to the frame and make the cut out in the slide to accommodate the raised rib of the barrel. Accuracy should be the same as you'd get with an equally good standard barrel.
  15. Can anyone else comment on why go with standard instead of the wide frame?
  16. This looks promising, but the 3 reviews all list the pump mount being broken. I'd be a little concerned for quality. Anyone know of a more sturdy yet still small and inexpensive parts cleaner?
  17. My wife makes fun of me for bouncing between hobbies. My other hobbies include video gaming, unicycling, juggling, and playing the banjo. It's killing me to be spread out over so many different skills, though. I think I'm settling on shooting as my main love, at least for now, so I'm selling my mountain unicycle and my old banjo to raise money for shooting. It's just painful to give up part of my other loves. Other brief obsessions include Aikido and RC helicopter. I have a battery powered helicopter to sell if anyone is interested.
  18. What exactly is the recommended break in procedure?
  19. Self Edit: close. Frustration gets to the best of us.
  20. I don't have one sitting in front of me, but it is written (really small) on the choke tubes themselves. THere are also grooves in the to tell them apart, this won't be correct, but it's like 2 lines for full, 1 for modified and none for IMP CYL IIRC. You may need a magnifying glass to read it or rub the letters with some chalk to get the contrast if you need to. Thanks! Under what circumstances would I choose a different choke than what came in the barrel?
  21. Ok, it came with 3 chokes. How do I tell them apart and what is the difference between them?
  22. Sorry for the bad iPhone photography. Out of the box, I'm really happy with this shotgun. I want to take it apart, clean, and oil it before going to shoot it the first time. I'll post more photos disassembled if I have time later in the week.
  23. I just got my 9+1.. I'll post pics later if I have time to take some.
  24. I'm certain you can remove material from the rib. You don't kneed much more than enough for the sight really, the rest would just be for slide lightening.
  25. That is exactly what I was hoping for. We certainly don't have to limit the pics to SVI. Other hybrid limited guns are welcome, too.
