  1. ok, I'd thought of that. It's definitely crucial to document answers. It's not worth it if it takes away from the rest of the forum.
  2. Just curious, have you thought of adding a chatroom function to the forums? It might be a useful means to work through problems with a faster back and forth to answer questions, not to mention just shooting the shit with fellow shooters. Thanks!
  3. Anyone got updates on what it costs to get a gun coated in Diamond Like Black or how long the lead times are?
  4. Update, I got an email from Charles Hardy at CED. They are adding a combo for the Racer rig, listed as $255.35! How is that for customer service? Less than 24hr response. I think this place just earned themselves a customer whenever I pull the trigger. Someone else please buy the new rig from them for now just so they feel rewarded for the add on, thanks!
  5. Great progress journaling. Congrats and kudos for going through with it. I had Lasik done on my eyes, primarily just enough astigmatism to drive me nuts without glasses, and I'm 20/15 both eyes. I can't recommend the procedure enough. My Mom got her cataracts replaced and had great success. She noticed a big difference in her color perception, all pinks looked orange before. This was problematic since she hates pink but loves orange. She was appalled to find out most of her wardrobe was pink. I tell patients that are getting cataracts done to expect a couple things: 1) You'll be amazed at how dirty your house really is now that you can see all the grime in detail. 2) You'll be surprised at how much older you look once you can see the wrinkles. Beyond those two negatives, it really is an awesome and often lifechanging procedure for quality of living.
  6. "good steal targets"? That's a pun...........right? Freudian slip.
  7. Damn, I hate to hear about that. Our local range can't keep good steal targets for this reason. The only thing I cant think of is a solid cargo container with a badass lock and only 1 person that knows the combination.
  8. Well now I don't feel bad for being the only reply to endorse some bling, though I'm not sure I'd beat up a Rolex the way I do my Tag. There really isn't much that I would say is too rough for my watch, and I fully expect to get another 20 years out of it.
  9. Well, welcome to the forums! Vluc will take good care of you. I was up in Washington, PA for 3 years. Always good shooting to be found up there.
  10. How about we start a thread for just sight trackers! There are a number of pics of them posted all over the different areas of the forum but not a single consolidated place to see them. I'm interested, as I want to see how people have chosen to lighten their slide around the hybrid barrel. I'll post mine whenever I get one.
  11. My grandfather's family was from Brookville, PA. You're up near Punxsutawney right?
  12. Yeah, I'd love to get all a single headstamp new, but I can't justify it for the cost. I'll take mixed headstamp once-fired. Thanks for suggestions. Any others?
  13. Thanks! The only reason I can see to get the Race Master over the Racer is for the ability to change out different types of guns on the same holster with the replaceable insert. The Racer locks you into one holster for one type of gun, but saves on money and weight. We should see if cedhk will do a combo for the Racer setup like they have listed for the Race Master which is a holster, belt, and 3 pouches listed for $391, down from $434. It looks like a 10% discount on the Race Master rig. Applying the same would bring the Racer rig from $284 down to $256.
  14. Anyone know when this is going to hit the american website? I'm planning a whole new belt rig for a future limited gun purchase, and this racer holster and pouches look like an awesome beginner compromise.
  15. Can anyone recommend a good online source for .40 brass? Are there any places you won't buy from? What's a good rate for .40 brass now?
  16. I'm surprised they didn't just bore the barrels out of one block to keep it more compact. Why duplicate trigger systems? Ok two firing pins, but one joined hammer system would work. Neat that someone is experimenting and trying to push more boundaries.
  17. For quality: Firebird Firearms or JP. For price: keep an eye on the classified forums for a good used AR.
  18. I mark all of my reloaded .45 with a permanent marker over the primer, but since most 9mm is fire and forget I could see not wanting to mark them. Good lesson not to take uncertain ammo though.
  19. I know its off point from your original question, but for future considerations it may be useful. I have a low end Tag-Heuer that's relatively sporty enough for causal yet still dressy enough for office wear. My favorite aspect of this watch is the crystal surface. I've had the watch over 10 years now, and I do anything in it. The crystal still looks as pristine as the day I bought it, not a single scratch. There may be a few dents and dings in the band and body, very small ones, and a fine patina of scratches, but it still meets all my needs from on the range to dressed up. Just like you can either invest in a budget Glock or a blockbuster SVI, you can make an investment in watches and get what you pay for.
  20. Same here...crisp 4# on the .45 ranger 2. I've always heard that going lighter than 4# on a carry gun can really open you up to legal issues. Sure, you may have a justifiable self defense, but that doesn't prevent civil suits! Thankfully, North Carolina has enacted protection from civil suits by the bad guy or his family in the event of a justifiable defensive shooting. This came in the same time as the new castle doctrine and the removal of the need to retreat.
  21. Can someone comment on why I might want the Pat Flannigan model? The 12+1 is only good for open, right?
  22. Ok, to throw another twist into the matter that I hadn't though about before. One of the other threads active at the moment mentions a SVI with a .45 bull barrel and a .40 bushing barrel fitted to the same frame/slide. I think this would fit a lot of my needs, here is the proposed build: 4.3" barrel and slide .40 bull barrel for competition .45 bushing barrel for concealed carry - to save weight Tri-top and other smooth concealed carry friendly slide lightening for weight and responsivity Short dust cover for weight savings Full size grip - SVI steel with full magwell or full size plastic with magwell Possibly have the magwell blended a little better than usual to a smaller profile for carry and at least try to leave it on all the time, like SV_COP (optional concealed carry grip later - likely aluminum from SVI with the traditional round profile trigger guard to better fit IWB holster) I would probably have the trigger set in the 3-3.5# range rather than 2# as a compromise for concealed safety. Does this sound feasible? I'm guessing that having a 2nd barrel fitted wouldn't add too much to the cost of the total build.
  23. I didn't know you could fit both a bull and a bushing barrel to the same gun. Can anyone expound on this?
  24. The top header called it a "Driver Error".
  25. Ok, enough oogling the pretty hardware. As much as I might want it, that won't make it mine. I will say the prospect of not losing my carry gun after a defensive situation lends some merit to using the G30 for now. I still would like to carry at least the same platform that I compete with if not the same gun. I could continue with my trusty Glock for now and keep saving for the Limited dream build, and the reloading stuff to accomodate .40 to be fully competitive in hardware if not in skill yet. It's just hard to save past what it would cost me to get the VIP I have coveted. The prospect of making one gun fit both demands at least would give me the satisfaction that saving up so much would meet all of my needs/wants. For now, at least my carry needs are met adequately, and my competition platform is most wanting. I'll have to think on it. In the meantime, does anyone else have something to contribute to the original questions? Anyone race a 2011 that they carry concealed? If so, what compromises did you make?
