  1. Congratulations, I have three sons and they are the best thing that ever happened to me. You gotta love them oh yeah and their mom too. Jim
  2. Fireant, I use armscor RNFP. A group of us buy in bulk to keep the price down. Jim
  3. Ronnie, it sounds like you are shooting 40 cal. I have a glock and due to the rifling I do not shoot lead in 40 cal. But I do know shooters that have shoot lead without a problem in their glocks. In my 45 I shoot a lot of lead 200 grain bullets because our range requires it on the plate rack due to the liability of having the jacket fly back and hitting someone. I have to clean my seating die often. I usually catch it when the rounds start getting a little short. The lead and wax will build up in the seating die and cause the rounds to get shorter. I get my practice rounds for the 40 in 180 grain FMJ for about $42 per thousand. The difference in cost between that and lead does not seem like it is worth it for the glock. I have gotten plated bullets for the 45 but other than making the pistol easier to clean I did not see a lot of difference in shooting steel and paper at the yardage that we shoot at. Hope this helps. Jim
  4. Congradulation! Getting the 1050 was a big step for me from the 550 which is still a great press. Jim
  5. jeff89, I think you have got the right answer... But it has been a long time since I thought about it. Duane, Jim
  6. What L9X25 said regarding not needing it on every case. When I am using the 550 I have a little box of lubed cases that I put in about every 4th to 5th case to keep things running smooth. On the 1050 I have to lube them all because of the case feeder. Jim
  7. Lonewolf, Go to Brassmanbrass.com and check out his once fired police brass. It may save you a couple of cents a round and I have not had any problems with it other than having to throw away the occasional case that gets stepped on. I use one-shot to lube with the cases with and because it is a dry lube I do not clean the cases after I load them. Just a light spray on one side and then as uscbigdawg said I give the cardboard box a little shake. It makes things soooo smooth. Jim
  8. Here is a link to the results. Congradulations to all who competed! Results Jim
  9. Marvin, Welcome I only have one 1050 and it is grey. I also bought it used and dirty but did not notice any black paint while I was cleaning it. Jim
  10. I have the prescription Okley M-pros in a light brown and I like them a lot. I usually wear tri-focals but had the Oakley’s made to my long range prescription. Jim
  11. Sorry I should have told you that you needed the Dillon Nuts. I bought a few extra because they seem to round after time. Jim
  12. I have heard that they are picky about which ammo is used. What do you guys use in yours. Jim
  13. SL, Sometimes simple is better... but I really like the 1050 once I get it right. By the way, the problem was that the 1050 had the old style nut with a lock washer attached (flattened) instead of the new aircraft style nut. It got loose and allowed the plastic washer to slip out. Calling Dillion on Monday. Jim
  14. BarKim, I also use Saffariland for my limited pistol and they have worked great for me. Even though, I am always looking for something better and the two other setups mentioned looked good also. cpty1 & statichead2k Have you ever compaired the safariland mag pouch with the one's you use? Jim
  15. wide45, I agree, I had a couple of squibs with my 550 when I first started reloading. I developed a routine which included checking each case for squib/double charge prior to inserting the bullet. I also started dumping each new case prior to inserting it into the shell plate because I found a small piece of paper inside one time. Each time I would find a new problem I would come up with another check. After several years of reloading on the 550 I became confident with the rounds that I produced. I have only been reloading with the 1050 for a couple of months and unfortunately, had a greater confidence level with the way that it works in comparison to the 550. Big mistake. We should not take anything for granted no mater how many "safety devices" we install. This was a good wake up call for me. Thanks to all for their comments. Jim
  16. Jeeper, 10-4, I will order one next week. It is something that I have wanted but just haven't taken the time to get one yet. I guess I waited a little too long. Jim
  17. Yesterday I took another new shooter to the range for her first experience with rifles and pistols. This is the second teenage daughter of my non-shooting friends that has wanted to learn about shooting. There is nothing that makes me feel better than going over shooting safety rules and shooting techniques with someone new to the sport and then watching them hit the bull. It is funny the way things work out. I guess the first girl that I took out told her girl friends and now they are going to their dads and lo and behold I have father and daughter teams at the range for some shooting fun. Now the bad news... I reloaded a 200 40 cals before we went just so I would have enough to go around. I checked the first 3 powder loads with the scale and then started to knock out the rest. When I shot the first round I heard a slight pop. Damn Squib! I drive out the bullet with my handy dandy squib tool and racked another load. Damn Squib! This went on 6 times till I gave up. When I got home I checked out the 1050 and found that the little square plastic piece that works the powder slide had popped out and lodged into another area in the powder mechanism. So today I get to knock out 184 rounds and try it again. It was still a great day. Jim
  18. YOU HAD TO KNOW THIS WOULD HAPPEN JIM
  19. Unfortunately, I will not be able to shoot due to other obligations but I did make reservations so I could go and watch on Saturday. It will be nice to meet some of you at the shoot. Good luck to all that are competing. Jim
  20. Jasonub, I bought the EGW sizing die and all my problems went away regarding resizing the Glock guppy. As I recall it was a small investment to solve a big problem. Flex, What is the difference between the FDC and the Dillon crimp die. I have not had any problems with the Dillon crimping die. But if the FDC is worth it I will pick one up for my 40 cal. Jim
  21. I had a small shell plate which would jam on my 40 cal casings. I called Dillon and they said that I needed a large shell plate and to check to see which one I had try to put a 45 casing into the plate. It did not fit so I got the large shell plate and I have not had a problem since. Good Luck! Jim
