  1. Thanks for the responses guys! Gonna reach out to them and see who can do it! Stay tuned!
  2. Wow John! That’s a beaut!
  3. A 2011 that currently is wearing a Brazos Slipstream Mount and RTS2.
  4. Ok, gonna have a slide milled for a Vortex Venom for my Open gun. Any recommendations for someone to do it? Go....
  5. I was signed up fo the last class and had to cancel due to work conflicts. I’ve had Don build a few guns/top ends for me and he’s a true craftsman and fantastic gentleman. I’ll be going to one of his next classes. The class fee is well worth the knowledge and insight you’ll get from him. And of course the gun you leave with would be great for competition, since you’ll know EXACTLY how it works and was built!
  6. Not sure of the “best”...but can tell you some of the worst is Federal that has a NT stamped on the head. All I can figure is that the NT stands for non-toxic? I want to say I remember them making Frangible loads that were marked NT? Anyway, this stuff sucks and crushes primers EVERYTIME! Total crap. Believe it or not, I can now feel a piece in the resizing die...kind of springy/spongey feeling. I’m almost 100% now in catching them in the downstroke in my Dillon 550B. Anyway, I think they’re crimped primer pockets. A buddy of mine bought a ton of it and had to swage the primer pockets to be able to use it. Hope this helps avoid “bargains”!!!
  7. Dawson makes two different basepads. One specifically for use WITH the no-gap Ice insert...these can sometimes be finicky when trying to fit and account for the various manufacturers of 1911 frames. The other type of basepad will work with any other magwell EXCEPT the no-gap insert. Without seeing the actual basepad you have, it’s hard to know which situation exists. Could you post a pic of the basepad in question? Of course, Dawson would be the best folks to ask.
  8. It’s true....he dislikes rules...???
  9. Hey guys...keep coming back to Single Stack for various reasons. Just a good fit for my skill set. Anyway, I’ve been using an STI Trojan .40 for a few years and like it. Reliable after figuring out mags, loads, etc. Anyway, to the question. SA is now making a 10mm Operator. I’m wondering if anyone here has actually been successful with using their long-loaded .40sw ammo in a 10mm chambered barrel? Accuracy or other concerns? I load my .40 for both Limited and Single Stack to 1.185” COAL. I’d REALLY like to keep my loads down to one kind for both Divisions. The SA 10mm Operator is street priced at $1400-ish. I could have someone make me a custom for $1800-ish....but have to wait. Any actual experience using a 10mm Single Stack 1911with high volume .40 shooting? Thanks in advance.
  10. Oh, and is it a 2011 frame or 1911? They’re different size pins. 2011 is slightly larger and usually solid pin. Roll pins in 1911 frames.
  11. The easy fix is to dribble a little blue loctite in the hole. Of course red works too...just a hassle to remove. Blue works fine though.
  12. Thanks, but still wondering specifically about whether the ones that SV makes for their metal grips will work on the EVO grip. Anyone know? Thanks
  13. Anyone ever try using the new SV magwells for their metal grips on a PT EVO grip? The EVO grips are “supposed” to be compatible with existing plastics grip magwells...but it’s far from 100%. Was wondering if the SV ones would be an option. Thanks for any help!
  14. I’ve used both the Double Tap and the PT. They’re both good, it just depends on what you’re looking for. The Double Tap is smaller and not as wide a paddle. Dropped right in for me with only having to fit the sear-stop stud to my ignition parts. The PT has huge paddles and will most likely need to be filed/ground/etc to the width you desire. No big deal, just a heads up. I prefer the PT because I’ve got big hands and thumbs. I needed more clearance and the PT gives it to me. YMMV Cheers623
  15. Brazos still lists the T2 Trubor barrel as being available.
  16. Have been on both sides of using or not using them. Always used the blue Wilson’s. Never had any shred or cause a malfunction, but I check them when I clean my competition guns. Maybe every 4-500 rounds. Always changed them out at the beginning of each shooting season. Now that I’m shooting Open, I’m going to replace them every few months because my 9Major gun is clearly the most “stressed” pistol I’ve ever run as far as wear and tear being obvious on the gun!
  17. Sorry, didn’t mean to be a d-bag! Only wanting to put to rest the myths of wide “rails”. Thanks for clearing it up!
  18. Even better...also get their RTS2 package deal with a free mount too! Good company and nice folks!
  19. Found the dimensions. STI Standard and Tacitcal/lightrail dustcovers measure .830” +/- STI Wide Dustcovers measure .920”+/- At some point, STI started machining the rails to be more similar to 1913 Picatinny style. Don’t know what those measure, but the Tactical rails measure .830” Again, hope it helps.
  20. Actually....I would have thought the same thing. However, at least with STI frames, they are the same width. STI makes a “wide dustcover” frame that is the same width as the slide. They also make a “traditional” width dustcover frame. The STI “light-rail” frame has the same width dustcover as the “traditional” frame...at least at the point where you’d drill and tap for an optic mount. I know this because that was my concern when I sent my STI light-rail/tactical frame to my gunsmith to build an Open gun on. I’ll see if I can find the dimensions and e post them here. There’s another thread discussing this issue of width on the STI frames in the Gunsmithing section of Forums. Now...other newer manufacturers of hi-cap widebody frames may Inc fact be wider on their “light rail” frames. Phoenix Trinity comes to mind. Last time I was at their factory and saw one, it sure looked wider. CK May be wider too. Dunno... But STI is not. Hope that helps!
  21. I’ve done and had done for me numerous trigger jobs using Stock STI parts, EGW, and Extreme Engineering components. All have held without following and are set around 1.75-2.25#. When I’m dry-firing, the aftermarket parts feel a little crisper and nicer...when the timer goes off...there’s no difference in times or hits...for me. YMMV
  22. It’s made by British company Shield Sights. JP just has them made for them. They’re solid for what they are designed for. The newer Shield versions also have a slide out battery tray.
  23. Glad I could help. Make sure you get a good gunsmith to do the work. It needn’t be expensive, but does need to be done by someone who’s actually built Open guns before. In theory the lightrailed frame could possibly hold up better than the traditional frame for 9Major, as it’s got a little more material at certain key areas.
  24. I’ve got and used both the DT and PT. Both are quality parts, with the PT being MUCH bigger on the paddles, allowing more custom options for sizing. The DT are really nice but smallish. To use the thumb shield, you must machine your frame for them. It’s permanent at that point. Hope this info helps.
