I use white delrin for the bumper. My design does not use the clips but if you need them McMaster Carr or an industrial supply company has spiral rings. The 2nd gen(left in blue pic) had a ring that was pressed onto the front of the body. I only made one similar to the JP one before changing things up. The latest version uses the least amount of material and is held in place by the spring. Also has more room for the weight to slide back and forth. Nick

My experience with the Havak is not good if you like easy cycling and reliable ignition. I bought the Havak in action form and put it in a MPA competition chassis. First problem to arise was the mags would not seat due to the design of the bolt. I had to cut .060" off the mag catch to seat the magazine lower. Problem 2--running the action fast is not smooth and very notchy when closing like the extractor was hitting something unless the bolt angle was perfect. The bolt cut on the left side of the bolt body for the bolt stop/guide was not deburred AT ALL so it was a knife edge cutting a groove in the bolt stop on the top and bottom. Trying to run the action fast results in the bolt stopping usually at the rearward start postion. Was told it might be clearance issues bolt body to action but have not checked it. Problem 3--this rifle was chambered in 6x47lapua and at the range feeding from magazine about 1 in 3 rounds would come out of the mag and hit the back of the barrel and stop. I figured this was due to the short cartridge so it was rechambered in 6mm Creed. It was better but I found out some mags have shorter feed lips than the original AICS mags so I can only use original AICS mags. Problem 4--ignition-- using cci450 primers in both calibers I had misfires(no pew pew). I measured the FP protrusion @ .040" and was told it should be .050-.060" I checked my rem700 and sure nuff it was .058". I like Seekins and this rifle shoots awesome groups but it is not suited for PRS type stuff. Better suited to hunting I think. It may be I received a non-spec action but I've not looked at any others at Cabela's or seen anyone else using one. Nick

All you can do is try both and see. You'll be able to run a faster powder with the 135's than with subs. 240 x 1050 = 252pf 135 x 2100 = 283.5 so they both have a bit of punch compared to 223@ 60 x 3000 = 180 The subs you need to keep around 1000fps so there's enough powder to run the action. At 40-50 cents/pc for 220-240 sierras you probably won't want to practice with them. Find something cheaper like 220 RN or lesser known brand. Subs will give you a little push in the shoulder for sure. I loaded up 50 that were too close to supersonic and burned them up rapidfire. It was a bit much in a light rifle. Like 223 you'll have to try em and see how it works with your system.

Rifle length will give you more options for springs, buffers, spacers, etc but compactness usually rules that out. With full power loads it will be hot and you'd want the most weight you can run. Drops on subsonic 220s, 240s zeroed at 100yds is about 36" at 200 yds. On my pistol 10" and carbine 16" I run a h3 buffer and cut down spring in Carbine tubes with 240 subs and burn rate around AA1680, 5744. I only runs Subs with 300blk. If I want supersonic I use 7.62x40WT to get most velocity.

What ammo r u planning on using? You may need different spring setups if you're going to switch between subs and full velocity.

Good question. I'm guessing the thumbrest would create too much of a open area for retention on this type of holster but Windfall also has a High Retention loop that may work with a thumbrest shape. Best would be to contact Nate and Jeremy at Windfall to see what they think. Nick

I am puttin a new top end on a stock STI Trubor 38 super for a local open shooter. It was blown up using 8.5 Autocomp and 115's. Only 3-4000 thru pistol. Anyone else heard of this happening? He pulled the rest of that batch and found no abnormalties and no bore obstructions. Peeled the top of the chamber. Just curious as I remember something about Autocomp being faster than it's supposed to be. Nick

Most of the guys I see around here are using MPA stocks for PRS so they must be good! $3000 will get you a nice rifle whatever the case! You may also want to check out the Seekins Havak. Nick

Thank You! I just buy the JP spring pak from Brownells. I usually end up with black or white. Latest version I used all 316 stainless for corrosion resistance since they seem to like to corrode using standard steel. Nick

Sorry I forgot about this post. I still have the stock lifter but most else is Benelli/RCI parts and I even made some new pistons of my own design. I've been trying to use the VM in Open for years and it seems to want to work only occasionally. I've been slowly replacing parts out including the shell release which is from a SBE. The SBE piece is much nicer in design and needs only one spring. But...it must be a little different in width as to where it sits in the receiver. The main problem seems to be the shell doesn't want to kick out hard enough every time to sit in the right spot on the rear of the lifter. The easy fix was stronger mag tube springs which helped but didn't fix. The action basically stops trying to feed a shell even with a XP recoil spring-push forward and go.... I started measuring and it seems the shell rim was basically too tight(as in no clearance with the shell release pushed as far as it will go) against the shell release and opposite side of the receiver. After cycling shells by hand and watching where on the release it was getting caught, I started grinding material away from the side of the shell release to make clearance. This has helped with the hand cycling but I pretty much ditched for the year at that point. I've talked to other people that have had this type of feeding problem and they ended up changing out the whole trigger group which fixed it for them. So even though the SBE shell release is a nicer piece I don't recommend using it unless you want to open up another can of worms. I will try again in spring 2018 but I don't think it will run 100%. My 930 has worked about 98% over the years but I don't put a lot of rounds thru it. Nick

NO Idea what you mean by "1/4 mil out at 600"? Saying actual doesn't match calculated? I use 200yds for both PRS and 3-Gun. 200yds also seems to be the minimum distance at the PRS type matches I've shot. Lot of times it seems to be almost exact .5, 1, 1.5, 2 mil holdovers to get to the ranges being used around here when the stage calls for multiple distances. If all the targets are at one distance then you'd dial of course. Make sure you keep a record of actual settings. My range is limited to 200yds so a big disadvantage when it comes to match time. Keep in mind you may run into mirage problems and time of day/temp/sun related reticle shift problems that can throw you off. Nick
