zipollini
Just curious. What distance do most of you calibrate your red dot sight to for shooting USPSA open matches ? 15 ft ? 20 ft ? 30 ft ? Thanks in advance.
shooterDrew
Mine is zeroed at 15 yards. So far has been great. I'm only about 7 or 8 matches in so far tho shooting open. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Trent1k1
25 yards. Then I check at 50, and again at 10 feet to see what my holdover needs to be up close
mwray
Be sure to check it at several distances. That way if you don't math well you will know where at the bullets comes back across the sight in. For example my gun hits the sight in at 22 yards and 65 yards the second time . It's helpful knowing this when some jackass designs a stage with 50+ yard targetsSent from my iPad using Tapatalk

But practice works better. Edited December 28, 2016 by teros135

BeerBaron
Generally if you zero it at 18-25 yards that will give a zero that is not too low at close targets and not too high at distance. So so I say zero at 20 yards but check the zero/holdover at everything right in from 3 yards (will be hitting low) then right out to 50 yards (most likely high). Just as as important as the zero is KNOWING where the gun hits at those increments from 3 yards to 50.

Hi-Power Jack
I center it at 35 yards and pretty good out to 50 yards. Have to hold high at very close distance on small (B-Zone) targets.

ano
I zero at 32-35 meters.
Acsr
18 yds for me, find what works best at the club you shoot at zero there and know where you have to hold for the closet and longer shots.
ano
guys, zeroed at long range = you can hit long range hard targets, easy zeroed at short range.. thoose loong range targets suck zeroed at long range... gonna hit thoose closer targets.. easy. theWacoKid
17-25 yards depending. Then check at 5, 10, 40, 50, 60 yards. Verify zero before every practice session.
teros135
Apparently not everybody thinks 50-60 yards is impossible. Especially with a dot and compensator. Practice!

The extra time needed putting through 150-300 competitors, and the time taken to patch those targets is not worth the challenge.
Trent1k1
USPSA Nationals, had 4 targets at 57 yards this year. Trying to remember your hold-under/over in the middle of a stage is probably not the best solution. Many of my local ranges have steel poppers and plates at 35 yards. Trent1k1
And they had a golf cart for the 50 yard targets. RO and Shooter both drove out to score and paste them.

mwray
^^ Absolutely! I like it [emoji4] !That would be fine if they furnished equipment like that
BritinUSA
They had 50 yard targets at the 1993 WS in England, they had the target stands on rails, the RO would crank the handle to bring the targets to the shooting line for scoring. teros135
See, they (both) did furnish a solution. Be of good cheer! All is not lost!
ano
we had level 3 competitions with targets at 80-90 yards this year, same last year, etc. Buddy still holds the PIMP record on the 80-90 yard targets, he shot them WHILE MOVING using minimum rounds (and hit) longest I shot my open gun was 343 yards. good thing it was a wopping 12 by 12 inch target. the hitrate wasnt 100%, but it did go pling quite a few times. had a spotter calling all wind corretions etc, shot with rest, prone. Brought a gun to a longrange shooting event, and stuck around at the end, and we decided.. hey, wonder if my open gun can hit that. 6moa dot aimed up treees Edited December 28, 2016 by ano
BeerBaron
Btw just in response to the original question - 15, 20 or 30 feet are all a waste of time. 15ft is not even 3 yards... You can almost reach out and touch the target with your comp at that distance.... 15 yards is generally the absolute closest but ano makes some good points about going further out.
