steel1212
ok, i'm a marine but this is funny...http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=a45_1254837482 I'm guessing that the going and getting the dropped rifle is a back up plan. It was just great that when it broke in half that he just handed it back to the marine.

outerlimits
How many pushups is that for dropping your rifle? i remember in boot camp watching guys slamming their M-14 buttstock against the deck with the bolt-open, knocking the catch off and having the bolt slam on the chamber. that cost you one (and it only took one) expensive lesson on doing it properly. the D.I. opened the bolt and locked it back, shoved your thumb in the chamber and then let it go. lots of fun. I'm guilty of having done that with M16A4's and I can tell you, they don't do that anymore... Dropping a rifle at boot camp or OCS means anything from thrashing to any range of "extracurricular activities". God only knows what happens if you drop a rifle on the silent drill team. The silent drill platoon displays excellent military bearing in this video. When I messed up inspection arms movement during an inspection by my company commander at OCS, I blinked really hard. My loss of bearing (not my mistake) was enough to get my nearly perfect inspection knocked down from an "Excellent" to a "Marginal". Marines don't play. Even twirling a rifle is done with the utmost professionalism... Edited October 6, 2009 by DyNo!
briansea2
How many pushups is that for dropping your rifle? If I remember right it is about 1,000,000 and probably looking for a new job as well.

Paul Santiago
I think they handled the situation professionally. No panic shown when the s!!t hit the fan. Tossing a 10lb rifle like a popsicle stick always impressed me. The evening parade is something to see if you're in the DC area.

gm iprod
The impressive thing is there was no yelling & no panic. Clearly very professional. Fix it and get on with the job. I bet he will never drop another one, and I bet he is still in the team, just had some re-education!!!

dajarrel
Could it have been a bad throw? IF my take on the teamwork of this group is correct, the thrower probably said it was as much his fault as the catcher. fwiw dj
gm iprod
Could it have been a bad throw? Depends on the ranks of those involved. In reality I would say that dajarrel is closer to the mark than me.
