It been hell without F1 these past few months. But the excitement is about to start. I can't wait to see if Lewis is the wonder boy that Peter Windsor thinks he is :) I hope he is not!!! I also wonder how Honda will improve this year with Ross Braun. My hopes for the season are that BMW will beat Mclaren and Ferrari will win the drivers and manufactures championship.

I enjoy Formula One immensely, but some of the rule changes in the last few seasons have been pushing it more and more into the realm of NASCAR. I don't want every car to be the same. I want to see a company like Toyota spend hundreds of millions of dollars and still get it wrong. I don't want to see a Micro$oft ECU in every car.

There have always been haves and have-nots in F1. That's the way it should be, it breeds innovation. Instead we're seeing a slow transformation into a socialist's idea of motor racing utopia. :(

Its funny, I was thinking exactly the opposite. I wish F1 was more like NASCAR. Who is going to win an F1 Race? The guy leading the first lap. Why, because the passing in F1 is very very limited. The NASCAR race on Sunday had 31 lead changes, much less the hundreds of passes that happened within the field. I love the technology and strategy that goes into F1, I just wished there was more actual racing going on.

But the few passes that F1 has are often very dramatic and fun to watch.

Yeah, I am waiting for the F1 season to start.

I went to the Hungarian GP in 03 and it was great, the cars are extremely loud and make all kinds of noises that I never noticed watching on TV. The smell of the fuel and tires was enough for a head ache. It was a great weekend, I did the pit walk on thurs, I sat at the end of the back straight for qual and in the stands at the last corner for the race. The tickets were extremely expensive and I would do it again in a second.

I will be at the steel match in SC this weekend but with the time change maybe I can see most of the action.

I think a big difference between F1 and NASCAR, when it comes to passing, is the width of the track. Look at some of those super speedway ovals, there can be three plus cars side by side through the corners. The first corner of every F1 race is the most entertaining part of the race, 22 cars battling for position to go through a corner single file.

Most NASCAR tracks have two racing lines. Formula One tracks generally have only one racing line.

I like the whole she-bang around F1, the skulduggery, the politics the cheating and mostly people like Schumi and his must win at all cost attitude. Hell maybe that is why I enjoy IPSC/USPSA too. I think it mist really suck for you guys as all the races but the one in Canada means that you get up very early.

Come on Sunday, I can not wait.

This is exactly what leads me away from F1.

I used to love F1 racing in mid 80es and early 90es, but right now it's even less entertaining than a scalextric race among kids ...

The cars have progressed to the point where the pilot might account for 30% or less of the whole performance; if you want to be a successful driver you shall be an average pilot and a great test driver who's able to spot the best car setup in the shortest time.

The tracks are ludicrous for the actual cars: take montecarlo as an example, can you imagine F1 cars trying to race and pass each other in your (narrow) city streets? It might have worked 30+ years ago, but today?

An effective F1 track, that could still prove who's the best pilot, allowing for passes and some real challenge, would be the one with at least a 20m wide lane, and a lenght of no less than 20Km.

Alas, all the actual circuits fall short of this, and the only thrill you get from a race is when they pit stop, and you are anxiously watching the stopwatch to know if the car will re-enter the race in the lead or behind... <_<

I'd be in total disagreement with Mr. Briatore and Mr. Head.

We have seen all too well and frequently in the past seasons slower (and I mean REALLY slower) cars being able to keep behind them the top championship ones.

I fail to see the logic in the following reasoning: "...the tracks do not allow for easy or frequent overtaking (and this is stated ad nauseam by the top drivers), so let's have the fastest guys starting from behind ...

I live in Utah and the race this weekend starts at 9pm. Japan starts at about midnight and Brazil starts at 12 noon (were on the same time zone as Brazil. The rest of them I record then I can skip the commercials.

But I'm with you, The skulduggery, the politics, cheating and the drivers and teams are what make it fun. I really like the technical innovation. How the hell do you make 700-800 hp out of a 3.0 liter engine on 92 octane "pump" gasoline? I also love the drivers skill, Arton Senna used to get scuff mark on the side of his tires from bumping the guard rail in the entrance to the tunnel in Monte Carlo. It is awesome to watch.

forget the BHP, what's amazing is the revs...they were hitting 20,000 a few years ago, before all the new restrictions. what makes F1 is the technology...what kills it are the rediculous "new age" circuits. only two remain-spa and monza. monaco is a crazy circuit, but remains on the calendar because it's a classic.

and i don't mind watching a parade with 2 reds cars, followed by 2 of any other team.

Reverse Order - Ouch! I see this as a major safety issue. You are going to end up making the top teams take wild risks to get past the slow cars, and the dfference between the top teams and the others is often pretty large. It might be exciting but I just don't see it being a reasonable solution.

Maybe some of the tracks are among F1s problems. CART was doing mostly road courses and did not have the passing battles that INDY did on the ovals. But F1 does not need to become a left-turn only series. But tracks setup for wild GT style racing don't always being the same excitement to F1.

One of the things I do really like about F1 is the qualifying process, which is so much more interesting than fastest lap qualifying.

I once watched Schumi race in the rain at Monaco. :surprise:

a number of drivers had spun out or crashed

by the end of the race.

He was sliding out of corners using the car's power in

slippery conditions to steer it.

It was Amazing to watch.

The best rain driver and the best race i ever

watched on the telly.

Looks REAL interesting for the 2008 season. Actual driver input, wow. No traction control or motor breaking this year. They might consider starting single file.....about 150 yards apart! :) They're all over the place. Figures the Italian Stallions are in the rears. Damn. Be sure to tune in!

I have been a F1 fan most of my life. But if they dont get rid of Max Mosely, and take control of Bernie, the whole thing is in jepordy. When they had 3.5litre v10's and 950 hp the cars actually scared some of the drivers. That is what seperated the men from the rich boys. The new cars for the last 3 seasons have about 100hp mor than a f3000 car. The transistion for some of the new drivers has made it easier along with the driver aids(traction control and such). This year could be much better just because some drivers are going to get caught out driving the car and the driver aids arent there to save them. The passing in f1 is never the major part of the show because typically you cant get more than 1 or 2 teams to perform at the same level. If max has its way it will be open wheel nascar.(And I cant think of a more boring piece of shit to watch than nascar). IRL is jsut as boring and if F1 continues the way it is going I'll cut it off and just watch the last of the real racing left.(world superbike and F1 motorcycle). I will say that we will finally get to see if Alonso is a real racer now that the car he has under him has to be driven and not just steered. I just fininshed watching Qualifying and Hamilton took pole with Kubica second and Kovalienen 3rd. Massa was 4th and Raikkennen had a failure that dropped him to 16th. Alonso didnt make it out of q2 session so maybe the Hamilton kid is for real just like when Schumacher came along. The other thing that has happened in F1 that discusses me is the tracks have been neutered to the point that the drivers dont have to make a descision as to how much nerve they have, all the dangerous high speed corners have been made safer by a slowing chicane just before them and couple that with a car that has 200hp less than it used to and the drivers can drive the car at its limit routinely. If they still had 950-1000hp and true slicks and no other aids they would really seperate the drives as most could only get about 80% out of the car.

Great pass ( classic up and under) by Kovalinien with 2 laps to go only to accidentally press the PIT button on the next corner.

You would think that Mclaren would have fixed that by now. That is the same thing that happened to Hamilton in Brasil last year. Kovaleinen made a great pass though. Hamilton is showing that he doesnt need all the driver aids that some of the others do. I dont know what happened to Raikkonen but it looked as if he had crainial rectosis.(And I like him for his being different) Bourdais showed some good effort only to loose it because of a blown motor. I liked the race even though attrition was high.
