New Rem 1100

Hey guys,

First, i have used an 870 for ever and am new to auto's. I recently bought a new 1100 tactical i think is what they call it. It is already set up for competetion. It came with the 8 round ext, and i put a 6 round side saddle on it.

I put 25 rounds of #8 2.75, 3dram rounds though it. Also 5 reduced recoil slugs. The gun ran fine. I am in my happy place.

Took it to the three gun match today and the thing took a s**t. The gun became a single shot. Every round stove piped.

My question, What the hell is wrong with it? I have been given all sorts of advice. I.e. needs to broke in, not lubed right, shells to weak, not shouldering right. ect...

Help me out guys.

Thanks.

Luxor.

What ammo? I've seen a number of 1100CM's, 1100 Tactical's, 11-87P's & 11-87's have trouble with the Winchester 100-round packs from Wally-World. The guns work 100% with the Federal stuff from Wally-World, but act just like you've described with the Winchester. Both loads are 3.0 dram; 1-1/8 oz; #8.

I've run one magazine of one then the other, then back and forth again. The Fed works the Win doesn't.

Ok, guilty as charged. I cleaned out the bore and wiped down the bolt. that was it. did not know the gas system needed to be cleaned. ( Hey i shoot glocks, not used to all this cleaning stuff!!! )

I will break it down and give it a good scrubbing and change the o-ring.

Thanks

Luxor.

Actually, if you didn't touch the gas system, it's probably an ammo problem. Clean it anyway. Lube the bejeezus out of it, then use hot ammo....like handicap or super handicap loads. If it doesn't run then, you probably need to drill the gas ports.

While you're cleaning the shotgun, probe each of the gas ports with a piece of wire. Something totally crazy might have happened and you might have something plugging one up.

Clean & lube it well, then shoot 2-400 rounds. Clean & repeat. then its match ready.

A hint on testing if a load will work in a match. Shoot a couple of tubes of each load from the hip into the berm. If it cycles with that light a hold it will cycle in a match when you throw the gun up with a bad hold. found the same as Homer about wolly world ammo.

Ok, Eric i did'nt touch the gas system before i shot the match, so i will try different ammo. I took the gun apart today.

I cleaned every thing and used pipe cleaners on the gas ports.

I did not lube the gun as the instructions i got with it say not to. I will lube it if you guys are willing to tell me what parts on the gas system ect.. need lube.

Thanks for all the info.

Who made the sidesaddle? How's it attached? If it attaches via bolts that replace the original action pins, torquing the bolts down too far can make the action bind up.....

I have a strong feeling! Worked fine before the side saddle, and 6 round saddles are normally the one you bolt on.

Hey Guys,

Well i took the gun apart cleaned and lubed as directed. Went out today and put 125 rounds though the gun.

I have pretty much narrowed the problem down to ammo related. The ammo i was shooting when the problem occured was Remington 2.75, #8 marked gun club on the side of the shell.

So today i put three different brands of ammo though it. These brands where # 7.5 and 1350fps. Also some #4 buck.

The gun ran fine with all of the new ammo, even hip shooting it, slow and fast. So i went back to the Remington # 8s and guess what, the same problem.

I would like to add that i did replace the 0-ring. This may also have helped. I have also decided to take the side saddle off. Since it was the one that bolts to the gun, replace it with one from 3gungear.

Note: The side saddle was on the gun when i tested it today.

Thanks for all the replys and info.

Exact same thing for me... Same exact specs, but the Federal runs, Winchester doesn't..

You can drill out the gas ports to .125 and that will make it less sensitive to ammo selection.

Also, I've personally had several failure to extract problems with the Winchester ammo. The extractor would pull through the rim on several occasions (3gun Nats) and would jam the gun up. I called Winchester and was told the steel rims do not contract like the brass rims in the chamber after firing and can cause the round to get stuck in the autos.

My gas port were opened to .108 and I still had the occasional failue with the 1350 fps winchester from Wally World. Not enough that I cared during practice, but often enough that I would never use it in a match. Match ammo for me means WinAA or Rem STS super handicaps.

+1 on the bolts on side saddle...my 1100 had a serious problem after I bolted on a 6 shot side saddle (pre 3-gun gear :)) it was bolted on too tight and the bolts interfered with the action :)

I've shot a 1100 Comp master for 4 years.

1. Lube it. Learned that on this web site.

2. For match ammo the Win AA's and the REM STS are the best and I've had no problems using either of these.

3. mine will stove pipe occasionally with the wally world bargan ammo, or those called club loads.

4. there is a caution about the side saddle being tightened too much so you might loosen it just to see.

5. shoot it some more, mime smoothed out after a thousand rounds.

6. Save your money and buy a Benneli!!!!!!just kidding, for sure someone will suggest that.

Hello,

Loved reading the posts here; very helpful and informative! I'm thinking hard about jumping into 3gun; folks seem to have great fun and suffer huge frsutration, all for the same money. In any case, I'm considering guns, with the 11-87 being recommended, if cost is an issue (!) and the Benelli, if I have a low tolerance for fussing with the gun. I actually enjoy fussing so I'm inclined to try the Remi. For sure, I'll want to load my own ammo and will probably shoot in Open, so I can run my favorite pistol. Need all kinds of advice, I'm sure, but am particularly interested in reloading advice. What length shells, loads, etc. I've got a Mec 9000 coming and would like to to starting stocking up on hulls, etc., just to prepare.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
