Nemo
Yesterday I bought a 25-2 Model of 1955, from forum member TxD. THANKS DAVE! See description and pic in the classifieds forum. TxD tells me this gun is a shooter, no collector value. It has the wide, target trigger and hammer and the barrel has some finish wear at the muzzle. What I was really looking for was either a 4" 625 or some kind of ICORE (.38 or 9mm) gun. But, well you know how it is, I couldn't pass on this one. My plan for this one is to turn it into a 4" gun, to serve as backup to my 625 and to play IDPA. The decisions to make now are: 1- Cut the 6.5" barrel or get a 4" 625 barrel? 2- Hack the not-made-anymore trigger and hammer or conserve or resell them and replace with modern parts? 3- Chamfer and use the old factory cylinder or replace it for the SS take-off from my 625? (There's a faily elevated coolness factor to a blue-frame gun with SS barrel and cylinder ) Rational behind these questions is that these parts may have value to other shooters or if the 25-2 ever has to go, I could put it back close to its original configuration. Would like to hear what you guys have to say. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Fire away
Bubber
Nemo, The only two pieces of advice I can give you is #1 SHOOT IT !!! #2 SHOOT IT ALOT!!! Then go from there
Nemo
Thanx Bubber! That was always an integral part of the plan. Let me add that our resident esquire indicated that the 25 may not like the moly-coated bullets I mostly shoot. Would the 625 barrel help with that? 10mmdave
Let me add that our resident esquire indicated that the 25 may not like the moly-coated bullets I mostly shoot. Would the 625 barrel help with that? Supposedly, but maybe you should shoot the 25 barrel and find out Not sure how you would shorten the 25-2 barrel and get a front sight on it. I know how they do the 625's but those have a more substantial top rib. Maybe you could have a barrel band front sight silver soldered on (now that would look cool) If you really want a 4 inch barrel you might be better off selling the 6.5 25-2 and put the $$$ towards the new 625 brl. Whatever you decide good luck and enjoy your new revo. OH !! be careful with that original trigger, if you use a Speed Sec/Extreme holster you could be in for a surprize

Shoot it and see how much you like it then buy a 4" barrel for the 625. #2-Triggers and hammers are available. How wide do you want it and do you want the trigger serrated or smooth ? Do you want the hammer bobbed? #3-Chamfer the existing cylinder and shoot the damn gun. Stop dicking with it #4- If you disregard #1 above, a sight like the one in the bottom right of the attached photo is the proper sight for the now bastardized barrel. either way, SHOOT IT. revchuck
Nemo - After eight years of shooting 4" guns in IDPA, I decided to try my 6" M14 in USPSA. That extra two inches is almost like cheating, especially for my nearly 55 year old eyes. Leave the barrel as is, and get a 4" for the 625. DougCarden
I would chamfer the cylinder and do a trigger job on it, then go to the range with a mess o' bullets and see what the gun likes.....then go shoot several matches with it and the 5in 625 and see which one you shoot better with, no what you think shoots better, but look at your hits, ease of long shots, recoil recovery, etc.....then decide whether to dick with the gun. TGO on his website has stated that it isnt always the combo you want to like or think will shoot better for you. You have to shoot them both and then see what works better for you. What you think may not be the case......or something similar to that.... Enjoy the blaster! DougC
Jaxshooter
Nemo Don't hack up a good Model 25 just shoot it the way it is. If you want a 4" gun buy a 625. I shot my 610 6 1/2" the other day and really liked the balance and sight radius. You shooting tomorrow? I was thinking about shooting revolver. Bwana Six-Gun
DON'T TOUCH THAT GUN!!!!! If you want 4", go buy a 625. leave the trigger and hammer alone and just have the action smoothed up as needed. Try the Precision 230 gr. RNF with 5.0 of N-320. Whatever you do, don't go cutting up a beautiful piece of art like that 25. I bought a 625 last May as a backup for my 25 and I just don't feel the love for that one that I do for the original icon. Take it out and shoot it. Do you have the rubber grips or wood?
Tom Mainus
I got a set of wood grips for a 25-2 if anyone is interested, presentation box too.
hopalong
Darn Bob! That is what I was thinking. I guess I'm getting slow, better practice up for you speedy guys. Nemo, You cut that barrel and I will be very mad. IF you want a 4 inch gun borrow Cliffs 5" 625 from Randy and file the last inch off. Really, 4 inch 625s are not hard to find. AND should be affordable (4-500 bucks) I have not paid more than that for any of my S&W wheels. (should you decide to move the 25 in favor of a 4 inch gun please contact me) HOPALONG Oh yeah, shoot the PI$$ out of it.

Take it out and shoot it. Do you have the rubber grips or wood? I can't leave the trigger and hammer alone, John. That wide target trigger may be a recipe for disaster because it's wider than the triggerguard. The gun will come with two sets of grips, the factory wood grips and a set of Pachmayr rubber or plastic. I promise I won't chop the barrel. Heck, I've already got offers for it. This gun is still in Texas, I just finished the deal yesterday, so I don't know if I'll even like it! Sam, I haven't seen a 625 for less than $600 in a long, long time. Since I haven't touch this 25 or used it, this would be a lot easier if one of you would just say: " Nemo, send me the 25 and I'll send you a 4" 625." Then again, I may receive it and fall in love with it. We'll see what happens. BTW, I thought about round-butting it, but that would definitely be a crime. So I ordered a set of N-frame SquareButt Jerry grips for it.

Nemo
1955 was It's finally here: The front sight has gone through some kind of reduction: The finish is not 100%, but this is no collector. It is a shooter and as so it will breathe fire next Saturday at my last match of the year. If it doesn't get traded for a 4" 625 it's gonna get a stainless 4" barrel, stainless 625 cylinder, Milletts, SDM FO front, and an Apex triger job. revchuck
IIRC, the 25-2 only came with a Patridge front sight, so yeah, a former owner worked on the front sight...not a bad job, though. Shoot it before modifying it. That 6" barrel is a whole bunch easier to hit with than the 4".
rwmagnus
I'm gasping for air did you really say you'd pull that 6" bnl for a 4"er? Say it ain't so! The 25-2 is about as fine a wheelie there is. Set it up for moonclips and shoot the hell out of it. Get some nice word grips for her as well.
