Ck867
I took my tanfo apart for some deep cleaning and noticed some unsual wear. Has anyone seen this. It almost looks like material from the hammer has melted onto the bottom of the slide.
Jsuki
Dang ross that's pretty intense, mine has that but not as bad. I actually have a lot of hammer wear from the firing pin. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Jsuki
did you try and see your backup gun has the same clearance? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
zombywoof
My hammer was showing marks from the slide. I beveled the edge of the slide and rounded the hammer a bit at the contact point.
Torogi
Normally the bottom of the firing pin stop pushes down the hammer on recoil, how does it look with the firing pin stop installed?
SoCalShooter69
Word on the street is Patriot is about to drop a hammer/sear kit... might as well wait for that.
johnbu
I heard that rumor too. Something about crisper SA and harder DA strike. But you know how unreliable rumors are...

Ck867
Would a new hammer/sear fix this problem though?

In all seriousness, Johnbu has a post floating around here pertaining to knocking down that sharp edge of the rear slide. I think yours was just a little more aggressive than most. Do you have a pic with the bits of hammer removed? Edited June 8, 2017 by NWfront
johnbu
And a close look at the hammer, front and side profile . It looks like the hammer is chipping. Indicating a heat treat or alloy problem. It sure would be nice to have an "Optimized tm" hammer.

An Optimized PD UberHammer was my first thought when DNROI said "Forget it, all hammers are go in production guns!" I actually imaged a giant sledge hammer attached to the back of my gun. Those CCI primers don't stand a chance.

Have you ever worn one out and needed to replace it? At this point, I'm just going to keep running it since gun still goes bang.
johnbu
I have not. But only shoot 8-10,000 a year. Just a couple years on them. But do dry fire a bit.
MemphisMechanic
Question... How the heck did this spot get any wear or metal transferred to it in the first place? The firing pin retaining plate in front of it should have been taking all this wear, right?

zombywoof
My retaining plate is higher than that slide piece.
