Steve... d'oh - I should have realized that. Thanks :) That would be *sweet*. Could you speak w/ the 3rd Saturday MD, and see if this would be possible??

Looking at the USPSA match calendar, we're going to have conflicts in Sep/Oct. In September, we conflict w/ the Minnesota Sectional and the A1 3-gun. October we conflict with the Missouri Sectional and the USPSA 3-gun. What about Nov, Dec, or Jan??? We shouldn't have conflicts, then, and the weather in that area should be good??

Steve,

That would be fine if you could pull it off. I'm surprised Robbie didn't milk you on that angle for his DrillMasteraDingDong.

Brian,  Kelly N and I have the third Sunday match, I could talk to the guy that runs the third Sat match and make it a 2 day affair.............let me know,  I am sure that KellyN would not have a problem with it..............How about Sept or Oct.............?

Rio would be great Steve. If doable I'd vote for the 3rd weekend in November. Shoot the Area 2, spend the week in shooting Mecca then party with the Forum Match. Who could ask for anything more?? B)

While we're waiting for Steve H to look into securing Rio for us, let's cover some other ground. While a lot of us seem favorable for Rio Salado, I don't want to assume that *everyone* is :) However, I'd bet that it would have rated high on our location poll, if we'd had it on there.

Our top 4 from the location poll appear to be Double Tap, Frostproof, ITPSC, and SCCC. ITPSC already has a volunteer, and they are already willing to, and capable of, hosting the match. Dale, can you commit to talking to the SCCC folks (unless we have someone local to the club who's willing?)?? I need volunteers for Double Tap and Frostproof. The job you're volunteering for is to pitch the match to the factility's board/leadership and determine if they would be willing to host the match. We also need to know what timeframe works with their schedule and normal weather patterns. I won't hold you to more than that, at this point :)

Note - we'll have to drop locations that we can find a volunteer for, so, if you'd really like to have the match at DT or Frostproof, volunteer :)

Now that we know where we'd prefer to go, we need to know where we can go, and when. When we have this info together, we'll hold a final location poll to set the stage for the match - that poll essentially will set the rest of this monster in motion..... :)

How about the Washoe county range near Reno (site of 3G nats last year and an Infinity Open)? Twelve bays, rifle distance range for side match, good weather May-Oct. (no humidity!), cheap accomodations, downtown airport, and an experienced match director who abhors ports and gimmicks. Maybe even a machine gun side match.

Oh yeah, as this is a social event to some, the state allows alchohol to be served 24/7. Not to mention the casinos.

I would try to arrange the non-USPSA stuff on Saturday and integrate it with the USPSA club match on Sunday.

I think Erik has a great idea. Reno is central to the NW and the SW and doesn't favor either group for travel. Heck, I would even have to travel to attend ;-)

If folks are coming from back east, it's really cheap to stay in Reno to help with flight/driving costs and the food/accomodations are excellent (I like the Nugget Courtyard best).

The range is great and I believe there won't be a huge financial issue with this facility. Props and hardware are second to none and the 24/7 fun aspect of Reno is right on the mark for this event.

Heck, I just plain like Reno for being Reno ;-)

Flex, If you drive like I do, Reno is 3 hours from the Bay Area ;-) Call it 4.5 when the traffic is slow in the east bay and through Sacramento, or there is snow in the pass.

Yea, the Reno idea sounds good, if Rio doesn't work out. Actually, after thinking about it a bit, I'm not sure that I wouldn't prefer Reno. Not only have I been to Rio plenty of times, but I'd give me an excuse to leave the neighborhood.

If entertainment and shopping are nearby, my more attractive half will be happier w/ it... I wouldn't mind an option I could drive to, but I'll show up regardless.

Too bad you guys didn't think of this one for the original poll :)

BTW, Nemo, thanks for the tip. Shannon is going to do some digging to get Frank's contact info, and find out if he'd be interested, and how much, etc....

I will print off this thread and get with the guys out at Rio this weekend and see what would work.............Dec. might be good, nothing major going on out there. However, we would probably only have access to the 4 practical bays........so if everyone wanted it bigger, Reno might take it.............I kind of like the idea of running it in conjunction with the Area 2, maybe do the weekend before and then everyone stick around and shoot Tuesday steel and then shoot the Area 2 on Friday, Sat and Sun.............get drunk on the off nights..........

Now your talking! I'll spend two weeks vacation for that trip.

Sorry, haven't been paying attention to the thread...damn work.

I'm working on getting in touch with Garcia about Frostproof. I don't think he would have a problem renting the range.

However I can't volunteer to run the match. I'll be happy to help out as much as I can, but I'm already running one match a year and that's all I can handle. The range is two hours one way, and I just don't have the time for another match.

But he does have a nice facility. There are a lot of hotels nearby (30 min). Nothing fancy but plenty of Akbar Inns. The airport isn't too far, I'm not sure on exact distance and Disney is within an hour. The FL Open had about 400 shooters this year, so the range can handle it.

Just have to stay from FL Open (Feb), Sebring Race (not sure when), and be careful with Hurricane season (which is only Jun-Nov :-)

Too much going on for my one track mind. How about a thread merge with:

Enos Forums Member Shoot - Locations!, where ya wanna go???

The threads are actually supposed to be separate on purpose - we *are* getting a little merged, here, though :) Sorry.... Perhaps all talk of location should go to the other thread???

As an update....

Erik Warren has posted a Poll asking if you'd fly across the country (or an ocean) to attend this match. The point would be to determine what our attendance might be if we end up on one side of the country vs. another??? Obviously, we're going to end up across the country from *somebody* regardless of where we hold it - unless someone can build us a worm hole :)

I've sent an email to Frank Garcia re: Frostproof.

Steve H is investigating Rio Salado.

We need a volunteer to talk to the folks at Double Tap re: the stuff I mention above.

We need a volunteer to talk to the folks at Washoe in Reno, NV, too.

ITPSC is willing to host, in SW OK.

Sniper has been kind enough to investigate the range in Brookshire (which is just west of Houston) - and they're willing to have us w/ no issues. This range is close to the airport, and there's lots of hotel and food support in neighboring Katy.

So - we have two locations willing to have us, at this point. We have two other irons in the first. We have two locations that folks have suggested and supported that we need to get info on. I'd say we're making some progress :)

What I don't understand is that we have offers on the table to host the match, yet we have people trying to track other people down to see if we can use their range. The attendence is going to be great no matter where it is. Lets just accept one of the existing offers and set a date.
