Rudukai13
Sooo here goes another one of my random thoughts...I'm wanting to hear from the experts - In what scenario would you imagine that an open pistol with just barrel porting would be preferential to a compensated setup? I am still planning out my open-inspired fun gun build and am hung up on the idea of using porting of the barrel only to achieve a compensating effect. I prefer comp-less for a number of reasons, among them aesthetics, overall size, etc. Now before anyone jumps on me, I know that a ported barrel alone will never be as effective as a true compensator. I'm not wanting to build a pistol to win matches - Just a fun gun to take to the range, something unique, and that I could use in competition if I ever felt like it. So, thoughts....? Maximis228
It can work. Dont plan on running Major PF. This could be an ideal setup for something like 3 gun.
limited shtr
I have several steel challenge guns as well as revolvers with lots of porting. They are easy to shoot but not as flat as my open at 178 pf. Do it I love mine have done it for lots of gun club members etc.
Hi-Power Jack
In what scenario would an open pistol with barrel porting would be preferential to a compensated setup? The only advantage I can think of, is to reduce the length of the barrel. Or the weight of the gun.
Rudukai13
Maximis yeah I should've mentioned I'll be running factory 9mm minor PF.
Kingman
I built a shorty with a 5" Schuemann TriBrid 2 barrel. It was insane. I did make major with 124 grain bullets but it was STUPID harsh and an insane charge. It was flat as any gun, but popped straight back worse than any gun I've ever shot. NickBlasta
You don't have to deal with fitting a comp or having it loosen?
Aircooled6racer
Hello: if you want a soft shooting build it with a bull barrel that is 4-5" long with a lightened slide. No ports needed or comp if shooting minor. Use a tungsten guide rod as well. Metal grip to top it off. Thanks,Eric
thompsoncustom
You could add some straight vertical ports pretty easy maybe even by yourself if you have a decent drill press. If you do it with a threaded barrel you can always add a comp later if you get real serious about competing with it.
