CaptJeff
Any recommendations for sighting distance for a vortex strike fire Ii ? It is currently dead on at 25 yards. The red dot is the only sighting system on gun. Edited May 29, 2016 by CaptJeff
Garmil
Poi 1.9" below poa at 10 yards Easy to achieve and roughly equal to a 50/200 zero Edited May 30, 2016 by Garmil
Lead-Head
I used to zero irons and dots at 300 yards. I had a hard time getting away from 300 since I was familiar with those holds. Lately I have been zeroing at 200. Only shot one major with a 200 yard zero so far, but 200 is probably better for a dot. TonytheTiger
I'm all about a 50/180 zero for irons and dots. Almost no hold over/under between 40 and 230 yards for any reasonably sized target.
NateTSU
50 yard zero, not enough hold over/under to matter as stated above. At 300 plus I use the dot to measure my hold overs.

striped1
Get the Strelok or Strelok pro app for Ipod or droid. Allows you to enter your cartridge and optic combo and calculate the impact / holdovers at any distance.
Stlhead
I used to zero limited rifles at 300, I now use 200. It does not really matter as long as you print some groups at all the ranges you will be wanting to make hits at.

busdriver
Ah ok I got that part. It's the "use the dot to measure holdover" I was wondering about.
Stlhead
Using the dot never worked for me, I think in terms of target diameters. Edited May 31, 2016 by Stlhead
StephensOutdoors
I used to zero at 300 yards but now I use 200 yds. Unless you're shooting a good outlaw 3-gun match with more long range rifle than targets inside 150 yds ... 200 yd zero is the way to go.
NateTSU
Care to elaborate? So I have a 4moa dot, at 200 I'm dead on at 300 I hold slightly high say top 3rd of a silhouette at 400 I know my bullet drops 4 minutes therefore I hold dot over the target. This works for me out to 500 after that I can't see the smaller targets.

troupe
I sight my dots in dead on at 100, Hold a little high at 7 to 10. Just a little low at 200. Upper A/B zone shots at 100, no problem !
StealthyBlagga
Load is 55gr bullet at 3030fps. I zero 2" high at 200 yards = 250 yard zero. Shots fall inside my 2MOA dot out to ~300 yards. Edited June 1, 2016 by StealthyBlagga

AustinT
Getting close and confirming? Absolutely. Zeroing my rifle at 10 yards? Absolutely not. I also would not advocate zeroing a pistol at two yards and checking slug POA at 6 yards.
